What do two Japanese detectives, a naked man on a city street, and a roundworm from Botswana all have in common? In the first volume of Manhole, Ken Mizoguchi and Nao Inoue investigate a string of bloody and mysterious murders, but their work uncovers a deadly biological agent which poses a threat of epidemic proportions. An unlikely lead starts them in the pursuit of a mysterious self-titled photographer, but meanwhile the infections keep spreading. The series may be best described as the thrilling combination of a detective story with biological horror.

This manga is a mix of detective, psychological and horror. It has a good story-line that progresses at an even pace if it can at time be a little predictable, and characters are slowly developed throughout, however only to a certain extent, although i felt close to the characters it wasn't like i was overly bothered about what happened to them. The art is generally good and at some points can be amazing while at other times lacking detail. Its a relatively short manga and definitely worth the read if you can spare a couple of hours of your time ^^

'Manhole' is a good police/crime mystery with some awesomely disturbing imagery. The story is creative and unique, and even though it isn't exciting 100% of the time it has a nice payoff at the end. The characters are rather bland, but not bad either.

The quality of the art varies a lot. It is awesome when showing the victims in great detail, and the character designs are okay for the most part. It is lacking however in many backgrounds, and there are no interesting perspectives or anything during the dialogue-heavy parts.

If you want to read a dark crime story with lots of "disgusting" images read more
