Nijigahara Holograph by Inio Asano is a manga that by itself deserves several rereadings, it is a puzzle that travels through time in the lives of the characters and that advances or stops at turning points for them. It is dense to read, yes, but it never ceases to fascinate me.

The story is confusing, fanciful at times and mystical at others, and this is what makes it excellent. The basis of everything is a dream, a story, a legend that runs through the years and little by little gets into the depths of each one, letting out the worst of them.

The crudeness of the ... manga is nothing more than a constant reflection of how disgusting people can be in extreme moments, moved by their feelings, their problems, or just because they are like that. Feeding that inner monster that we carry inside.

An emphasis is made on how even the smallest circumstances define the lives of others. A past, present, and future that are linked or connected by someone or something that guides everything (believe it or not) from the dark. Impeccable worldbuilding pulls the strings.

An aura of depression is felt by this, it is the same tragedy happening over and over again. In spite of everything, the story wants you to realize something. Seek that you understand and take charge of the decisions you make, seeking strength and willpower to continue moving forward.

As hard as it may seem, just accept and live.
It's amazing how Asano was able to create this experiment that I can't put a note on. Free interpretation is the best point of the work, taken in different ways to a story that I could not stop reading.

Nijigahara Holograph de Inio Asano es un manga que por si mismo merece varias relecturas, es un rompecabezas que viaja por el tiempo en la vida de los personajes y que avanza o se detiene en momentos de inflexión para los mismos. Es denso de leer, sí, pero no me deja de fascinar.

La historia es confusa, fantasiosa por momentos y mística por otros, y esto es lo que la hace excelente. La base de todo es un sueño, un cuento, una leyenda que corre a lo largo de los años y poco a poco se mete en lo más profundo de cada uno, dejando salir lo peor de ellos.

Lo crudeza del manga no es más que un reflejo constante de lo asqueroso que pueden llegar a ser las personas en momentos limites, movidos por sus sentimientos, por sus problemas, o por el hecho de solo ser así. Alimentando ese monstruo interior que llevamos dentro.

Se hace un recalco en el cómo hasta las más pequeñas circunstancias definen la vida de los demás. Un pasado, presente, y futuros que están unidos o conectados por alguien o algo que guía todo (a creer o no) desde la oscuridad. Una construcción impecable del mundo mueve los hilos.

Un aura de depresión se siente por esto, es una misma tragedia ocurriendo una y otra vez. A pesar de todo, la historia busca que te des cuenta de algo. Busca que entiendas y te hagas cargo de las decisiones que tomas, buscando fortaleza y fuerza de voluntad en seguir avanzando.

Por mas duro que parezca, solo que aceptar y vivir.
Es increíble el como Asano pudo crear este experimento al cual no puedo ponerle una nota. La libre interpretación es el mejor punto de la obra, tomarse de diferentes formas a una historia que no pude parar de leer.

If you are reading this for the vibe and a nihilistic atmosphere this could be what you are looking for. I expected something more plot-driven and thought the Mangaka tried to put too much in too little space. The story didn´t click with me.

Nijigahara Holograph also felt too edgy without enough substance to support it. I kinda feel like if you want to experience this type of vibe Black Hole (a comic not a manga) does the same way better. I´d also argue that this kind of felt like Gantz. Be it the art style pannel layout or just the vibe. If you liked ... this and want more maybe check the few chapters of that manga out.

“La muerte de una inocente afectará a sus seres cercanos por el resto de sus vidas” es una sencilla sinopsis del segundo trabajo de Inio Asano. Usualmente descrito como un rompecabezas donde sólo la constante relectura nos brinda algo de claridad en entender qué ocurrió, por qué sucedió y qué terminó implicando para los involucrados.

Es una estructura similar a su anterior obra, se diferencia en que no hay narrador único sino que es un grupo cerrado de personajes, cambiando de narrador ... entre capítulos y dentro del mismo episodio. Siendo un trabajo más complejo en términos de presentación de narrativa y también en simbología.

Elementos surreales y representativos se entremezclan a plenitud con la trama, consiguiendo un realismo mágico invasivo y sofocante, teniendo de principal metáfora a la mariposa, de la que he encontrado complejas explicaciones asociadas al taoísmo (de donde afirman está la inspiración de la obra) y otros con significados más universales como la típica mariposa del destino, representado que un sólo hecho puede afectar de inesperadas formas. Entre ambas prefiero la segunda, sencilla y puede que inintencionada, pero me gusta cómo encaja con el núcleo de la obra, donde todos los personajes tienen de intersección al mismo suceso.

Sin embargo, más no es necesariamente mejor. La obra tiene una complejidad “peligrosa” ¿En qué punto termina su análisis y comienza su sobrepensamiento? Pregunta cuya respuesta depende únicamente de cada quién, en mi caso, una vez finalizada decidí releer para consolidar mi opinión y así comparar con otros en reseñas y foros; conforme leía se formaba una inesperada conclusión…no valió la pena dedicar tanto esfuerzo.

Si unes las piezas sea por tu cuenta o por el análisis de otra persona, llegas a un mensaje sobre la vida y el valor de vivirla, es cierto que tiene unas cuántas lecciones e implicaciones tangentes que puedes obtener de las vivencias de ciertos personajes, pero su núcleo sigue siendo su mensaje humanista. Y sin duda es un mensaje válido, sino fuera porque Asano escribía a la par el mismo enfoque en Subarashii Sekai sin necesidad del complejo planteamiento ni su desbordante pesimismo.

Y podríamos verlo como una reafirmación del mensaje en el escenario “aún en la profunda oscuridad del mundo hay un rayo de esperanza”, de no ser que el realismo de Asano dio un paso para mal. La complejidad de los personajes tiene un efecto contrario en varios paneles y conversaciones, en un intento de parecer fríos, inesperados y crueles son casi una parodia de eso que quieren llegar a ser. No es que los hechos sean imposibles de ocurrir, es la irrealidad de convencer por sus personajes aburridos en intento de ser creíbles.

¿Hay valor en la telaraña por ser una telaraña? Como ejercicio experimental, por supuesto, nuevamente, este es el segundo manga serializado de Inio Asano, aún estaba probando ideas de narración, presentación y metáfora, además debo destacar su notable mejora en el dibujo, la composición y simbología, la última aún siendo algo extenuante, es crucial para dotar el carácter surrealista a la historia.

"The death of an innocent will affect those close to her for the rest of their lives" is a simple synopsis of Inio Asano's second work. Usually described as a puzzle where only constant re-reading gives us some clarity in understanding what happened, why it happened and what it ended up implying for those involved.

It’s a similar structure to his previous work, it differs in that there is no single narrator but a closed group of characters, changing narrator between chapters and within the same episode. It is a more complex work in terms of narrative presentation and also in symbology.

Surreal and representative elements are fully intermingled with the plot, achieving an invasive and suffocating magical realism, having as main metaphor the butterfly, of which I have found complex explanations associated with Taoism (where they say is the inspiration of the work) and others with more universal meanings as the typical butterfly of destiny, represented that a single fact can affect in unexpected ways. Between the two I prefer the second, simple and perhaps unintentional, but I like how it fits with the core of the work, where all the characters have the same event as an intersection.

However, more is not necessarily better. The manga has a "dangerous" complexity. At what point does your analysis end and your overthinking begin? Question whose answer depends solely on each person, in my case, once finished I decided to reread to consolidate my opinion and thus compare with others in reviews and forums; as I read, an unexpected conclusion was formed...it was not worth the effort.

If you put the pieces together either on your own or through someone else's analysis, you arrive at a message about life and the value of living it, it’s true that it has a few tangential lessons and implications that you can get from the experiences of certain characters, but it’s core remains the humanistic message. And it’s undoubtedly a valid message, were it not for the fact that Asano wrote the same approach in Subarashii Sekai without the need for the complex approach or his overflowing pessimism.

And we could see it as a reaffirmation of the message in the "even in the deep darkness of the world there is a glimmer of hope" scenario, were it not that Asano's realism took a step for the worse. The complexity of the characters has the opposite effect in several panels and conversations, in an attempt to appear cold, unexpected and cruel, they are almost a parody of what they want to transmit. It's not that the events are impossible to happen, it's the unreality of convincing by their dull characters in an attempt to be believable.

Is there value in the spider web for being a spider web? As an experimental exercise, of course, again, this is Inio Asano's second regular manga, he was still trying out ideas of narrative, presentation and metaphor, plus I must highlight his remarkable improvement in drawing, composition and symbology, the latter still being somewhat strenuous, is crucial to endow the surreal character to the story.

But, to reiterate, my real drawback is that even if I invest in its comprehension, I will arrive at the same terms as several of his chapters in the previous anthology, in which, in addition, his message of hope did not appear out of the blue.
