A shonen focused on character growth rather than battles.
We follow the protagonist Taisei Tendo on his journey to take the shogi world by storm. The manga’s not really about shogi though, it’s about Tai and Sei, the two halves of Tendo. He has a different personality during the night and day, and the two can’t communicate, they just share the body. The story so far has focused on the two switching times after an accident. Forcing the nighttime personality to deal with school and entering the shogi tournaments, while the daytime personality has to sit on the sidelines.
The art for the most part is detailed
with fitting backgrounds. At times it does look a bit off, but maybe I just really don’t like Tai’s hair.
The story is centered around the twins sharing a body. Tai is the model student while Sei plays the rebellious teen. Despite them not interacting themselves, Sei still manages to show how much he cares about his brother and wants to get him back into the shogi he loved so much. Every side character introduced so far has shown significant growth after an initial encounter and I’m interested to see where they settle in for the grand scheme of things.
Verdict: Check it out
There was significant character growth by chapter 3 and I feel like there’s a lot more to come as long as the series doesn’t get cancelled before it happens.
