Story 6/10:
The story is mainly about the son trying to adventure by himself and the mom learning to slowly let go. This is defiantly not the direction I like the manga to go. The mom’s personality is by far the biggest star of the manga, and whilst I agree if they don’t take the story in the aforementioned route it would be hard to have any actual content, the current story doesn’t manage to follow showcase the main charms of the Manga.
Art 9/10:
The art for normal panels is pretty good and enjoyable, where the art really shines is in the panels which showcases emotions for
...
the Mom, most noticeably anger. The panels where it shows the Mom under true rage truly bought out the extend of emotions characteristic of her personality, and allowed you to also emphasis and feel what the Mom may be feeling.
The only downside of the artstyle is anxiety and sadness/crying. With how overprotective Mom is, they weren’t done convincingly enough to move me, and it downplayed what might have been some truly impactful frames.
Characters 10/10:
In all honestly, it’s the Mom that carried this score. She has a few of the best traits one can ask for in a manga. Extremely OP, extremely loving to the point of overbearing on her son, and being overprotective. All these traits are absolutely the best, and I have yet to find any other series where a character has all these wonderful traits.
The son is somewhat average. Due to the story, it showcases him attempting to be distant to his mother, which is unfortunate but unavoidable. What is actually wasted potential was that even so, the Son could easily create enjoyable scenes of “weakness” where he gets overwhelmed, and shrivels back into the mothers protectiveness. This doesn’t really happen in the manga, but at least the son isn’t hostile or cold towards his mother, so there isn’t too much a reason to dock points from him.
The bunny girl companion tho…once again, I understand it’s for the story for the son to grow independent, but god damn does it feel like it detracts from the main show. She really is quite generic with almost no personality, yet the manga seems to desperately showcase her as the good companion that the son needs. A character like her is necessary, but the excessive attention on her is not.
Even with all that said, the character design for mom really is THAT, that despite an average Son, and kinda bad bunny girl companion, character design is still a 10.
Enjoyment:
Once again, there is no characters in any series I’ve seen that has the traits Mom has. Her overprotectiveness, and the ability to do so with her OPness gave the potential for almost any show to be 10/10. This show somewhat demonstrated the charms of her character, which was enough for it to be 10/10 in enjoyment. With a different storyline and different focus, the manga could become even more enjoyable, but still, even in the current state, seeing the interactions between Mom and son is enough to be 10/10 in enjoyment.
