Is there any reason that the anime took long time to have the year of release confirmed after its announcement?

It's been more than a couple years total since the announcement and only recently has it been announced for this year. Why did it take this long?

There wasn’t enough content to adapt a full 12 episodes back then. The team made bocchi the rock and elusive samurai in the meantime so they only recently started work on it to figure out a release date. That’s how I understand it.

After the first season they released several other anime which probably took priority, that's all I guess.

I’ll be honest I think it’s bc the series is a monthly series that’s why it took so long for season 2, they waiting for more source material to be released

It would’ve been a combination of source material factors and the staff at Cloverworks working on other projects in the meantime, they probably would’ve only earnestly started production in 2024

I recommend to watch Shirobako, to understand how anime production works and ends up going.

When you see a second season announcement right after s1 ends, it's because it was planned from the start. This isn't the case, and every anime require years of works.

For example, think about AoT: 4 years gap after s1 because s2 wasn't planned from the start, then a one year gap to get s2-s3p1-s3p2 because they were all planned together.

True, otherwise it would overtake the manga itself or worse…overtaken BY the manga.

you should not be complaining about that, I've waited for other series that got a second season confirmed but waiting for news on it for longer than this shit.

Honestly, that probably the most plausible answer. The studio was just doing other things.

Hopefully they will cover more chapters in s2 as the manga got pretty boring for me around this point

so that means we'll get an adaptation uptil one of the 10 latest chapters?

Idk how many chapters season 1 covered off the top of my head but it’ll be approximately that amount again I would assume. Monthly chapters are quite long so I would guess only 1-2 chapters per episode and round to the nearest arc.

39 which was just one volume short of what was available at the time. It's why it took so long for the announcement at 12 chapters per year they need a lot of material for a season.

Damn 39 was more than I would have guessed but that just over 3 years worth of chapters and, to answer the original question, season 2 is just over 3 years since the first season.

I sincerely hope that season 2 will be a completely original work. Manga turned into pure garbage, it will be a monumental disappointment, if it's any close to manga.

Hoping we get a full adaptation and they change things up slightly to make the pacing better for the anime.

@Treyv0n wait, so will this season cover all the manga or there is more material to a season 3?

@MUIGaryuu We don't know exactly what the plan is, but if they maintain the pace of the first season there would be just enough for a third season.

Stop being so entitled. Good animation takes time and studios do animation for many shows at same time.
