Sometimes there are shows that overall are bad, ok, good or even great, but then they have a 1-5 episode section, scene or plot point that is so above and beyond how good you consider the rest of the show to be. I'll give my own examples so you can see what I mean: The fist 4 episodes of nomad: megalobox is a masterpiece to me, but the show as a whole is a solid 8. Same with the 2 "inside outed" episodes of id invaded. And I wouldn't call this a masterpiece level section, but the first like 4 episodes of magia record season 2 were so fucking good. I think the show as a whole is painfully mediocre, but for a short time it was doing so so amazingly. So what are your examples of something like this happening? |

Eromanga-sensei is average, but OVA episode 1 is a masterpiece, because of Yamada Elf's excellent stage performance. |

From what I'm saying, a lot of people think that Oshi no Ko's first episode is the only peak part (Eh, opinions. I love the whole thing, but my opinion is equally as invalid, so oh well). My choice personally is the first Lupin III. The second half of that anime is almost completely golden, but the first half is just so boring that it destroys any chance of this getting masterpiece status. |

For how much I don't like the Hunter x Hunter 2011 anime when I first saw it and still feel the same way now, the Yorknew portion was fantastic. Too bad the Greed Island arc and Chimera Ant arc completely killed momentum for me completely, but that is a decent chunk that I loved in an anime I would rate around a 4. Another show I can think of is My Dress Up Darling. The show is very average to be polite, but there were one or two moments that stood out to me that were pretty special and better than a lot of romance anime I saw with one of those being the scene at the beach between Marin and Gojo, which was so well directed and atmospheric and completely immersed me out of nowhere. Without those one or two moments, my score would definitely be a lot more negative and given that I'm reading the manga, the source material isn't very promising either. So I do feel like that came out of nowhere, in a good way I guess. |

Sword art online had a really great first two episodes and then wow Tokyo ghoul season one had two great episodes, the first one and the last one. There's one episode of Space Dandy in particular that's high fantasy at it's finest and the rest are a mixed bag. Gon vs Pitou episode 131 of HxH is so good Please remake Soul Eater and erase the fist of friendship, go to the moon instead |

The very beginning of the movie Phoenix 2772 (with the baby). The battle halfway through Wanpaku Ouji no Orochi Taiji. The final battle is far less exciting. The last arc of Air. The last episode of Platinum End. The last episode of Zodiac War. It can be watched as a standalone, as the manga it's based on was actually written before the rest of the story. https://myanimelist.net/manga/88354/Oogiri The end credits to the movie Toki no Tabibito: Time Stranger. The song has [English] lyrics that relate to the story. This video footage is not from the movie. I am sure there are more examples, but I can't think of any at the moment. |

@billybub I genuinely want to know what was the goal here. Cause picking two of the most beloved things in the anime community among both casual fans and critics to roast someone, isn't winning you any favours from outside perspective. and is sure as hell not going to hurt that guy's feelings. If anything it only makes YOU look worse. So I want to know what was the goal here. did you just say this for yourself? Cause the other guy has seen 1,000+ anime, there were more than enough actual examples if you wanted to roast their taste. here let me show you: @Cestlavie_ Angel beats is just cry porn with a messy plot, some of the episodes are solid enough as stand alone plots, but a 9 is absurdly high. You've seen death parade, you know what the concept would look like if it was actually done well. The only thing angel beats has over it is comedy.... which I don't think would be the reason you gave it a 9. but that's just the start of it, there is a far bigger crime at play here, then we have to get to the fact that, somehow the absolute artistry and amazingness that are anime like perfect blue, made in abyss, be a 7/10, which would be bad enough on it's own, but then you rated dog water or mediocre shows like mirrai nikki (including the dog shit ending ova), Tomodachi game or Sabikui Bisco with the 7/10. You really looked the 2 frames per episode ass, forgettable music ass, poorly directed ass, poorly paced ass, with subpar character ass, and just ass in general tomodachi game and thought "yes this deserves to sit next to perfect blue"? @billybub see? now If someone looks at that from outside perspective, they're going to be like, yeah maybe the other guy does have shit taste. @Cestlavie_ oh and no hard feelings, your taste is fine (mostly), I was just making a point here. |

Shirou vs Archer in Fate Stay Night: UBW. The series was pretty good, the franchise as a whole is solid, but Shirou vs Archer was peak. The Doll House arc and the Bloodstained Labyrinth arc in Ghost Hunt are the 2 best "horror" moments I've experienced in anime, in fact, I don't think anything else come close. The show as a whole was good. Yuzaki Nasa had some really good moments in Tonikaku Kawaii, like the one where he said "In this world, even the most scientific of things started from someone having this gut feeling it exists. Then someone proved it after the fact. So compared to you, I know absolutely nothing about her... But I intend to spend my entire life proving my love. I didn't marry her because I proved my love. I married her to prove my love" and become one of my favorite characters of recent, but then most of the show he's just a little bland, just a little. |

I won't call Code Geass an actual masterpiece but that ending is definitely my favourite of all time Oshi no Ko EP1 was really amazing, with great direction, yeah the rest didn't live up to the expectations but it's still a decent show The first 4 episodes of Shield Hero made me think this show had a chance to be an actual masterpiece of an isekai Attack on Titan specifically Season 3 Part 2 was done super well In the first arc of Bungou Stray Dogs S2, Osamu Dazai's past wasn't what I expected, but it's the type of story I really love and appreciate Kaguya S2 EP11, Ishigami's past was super well-written and changed my view of the show (wouldn't call the show a masterpiece but it's close as it could be for a rom-com) Don't remember which arc was it, but it was in Magi S2, truly underrated |

1 Of the recent ones I remember is Ragna Crimson. A pretty good first extra long episode, much better then the rest of the show combined. |
I don't know who quotes me and then deletes the comment, but know that you make my day. STEAM's GOTY 2024 the Ghost of Tsushima Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 compared to other games released in 2024 is without a doubt a masterpiece. HOWEVER... Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 compared to far older games like Gears of War from 2006 is pretty lackluster and has lots of room for improvement -> 5.5/10 Lol Sony needs to stop sniffing their own farts, their IQ is crashing so hard they are gonna ruin the whole company. |

I think Dororo might be like that. I have heard some people speak really badly of the show, and even drop it, but I think the last 4 or so episodes are genuinely amazing. I would say the rest is still good but not as good as the finale, but then again its not like you can remove the buildup to the finale and still have the finale hit as hard so it's probably not a good answer overall. If we are limiting ourselves to shows that are probably bad, I think Spiral is a good candidate, the first say 6 episodes are so much better than the last 12. It's still not quite what I would call a masterpiece but the contrast is stark. |

@ToG25thBaam agree, their entire relationship was the most interesting thing in the show to the point that after their fight ended I lost interest in the show, not because it wasn't good but because the Archer plotline was too good |

Episode 13 of Princess Tutu. The scene where Tutu dances the duet alone is just incredible. If there was a compilation movie or something that just focused on the Swan Lake stuff of the first half of the series, I would probably give it a 10. But the series spends way too much time and energy, like breaking the 4th wall twice an episode for no real reason, on a meta plotline that doesn't have anything interesting to say. |

I liked the character of Mayu from Elfen Lied, which I thought was a terrible and boring series. Elfen Lied is a series where I think that twelve episodes were unnecessary, adding uninteresting superfluous fluff. Many have argued that the killing of Lucy's dog scene was gratuitous, but I argue the exact opposite; most everything else, particularly the mundane parts concerning Nyu or Kouta, were gratuitous in a series that wishes to tackle such serious topics. |

@Hitagi__Furude 0 has a lot of good moments. I mean as a whole it also has a SHIT TON of issues. But the reawaken scene alone gave me a wave of emotions that had never felt before, and haven't felt since. Honestly everything from that scene until the end was really good, even if the exact episode before that was the dumbest shit i have seen. |

Between this and the fact you pinged me of all people does come across as a bit too...self-conscious, I think? Calm your boobs, my dude. You are being WAY too aggressive based on what little I have bothered to read. OT: The moment in Monster that I will always remember will be Tenma training with the man and his adoptive daughter. I think that for all the revelations and intrigue, that this is an incredibly pivotal moment for Tenma as a character. I think Monster is a good enough adaptation, but this moment was truly special. It was also the episode that introduced me to the idea of doubletapping. |
