New Urusei Yatsura anime seems to be infinitely popular in Japan, more popular than every other anime ever made put together, so...

Do you think they will give us more Rumiko remakes?

Btw, for people who think 2000s Inuyasha still holds up - it does, but that doesn't fucking mean millions of us doesn't want even more Inuyasha anime anyway.

No, i don't think there will be remakes of other rumiko takahashi works like Maison Ikoku and Ranma 1/2. Consider that even the currently airing Urusei Yatsura anime isn't a full remake, the original had 194 episodes while the new anime will only have 46.
Although if there were to be remakes i would love to see a modern take on Maris the Chojo.

It's very unlikely to happen in the current anime ecosystem unless there is a special anniversary or event. Urusei Yatsura got a remake adaptation because it's a project to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its publisher Shogakugan. UY is chosen because it's the first Rumiko big hit and the year 2022 also coincidentally a tiger year for good charm.  Fans alike still could wish one day Ranma could get a deserved readaptation without all the fillers, but I much more interested on the shorter stories like One Pound Gospel to get full adaptation.

I hope not. They're fine as they are.

Ranma½ remake? All of it? Completely animate all of the Manga perhaps..?
Do you wanna see a grown man cry?..

Anyway not possible with today's wank censorship rules..

Perhaps eventually.

I think Maison Ikkoku has the best potential with its slice of life/romance genre.

I'd love to see more Ranma, but I think you're right. It would be weird without the random nudity in it.

The new Urusei Yatsura anime is not as popular in Japan as you might think.

Ranma 1/2 is one of my favorites too, but I'm wondering if it would be difficult to remake it because the depiction of nipples is different from the old days and it seems to be regulated.

I would rather continuations of Ranma 1/2 and Urusei Yatsura than complete remakes. I don't know about the manga but the anime series never seemed to actually be finished. I liked how Inuyasha ended

If you are talking sequels, as in sequels about their children, then yeah, it could work since old seiyu could voice older versions of their, well, old roles, and still sound fitting.

Toshio Furukawa and Fumi Hirano do voice parents of Ataru, and Lum now, for instance, although we are talking about remake, and not sequel.

But if you are talking about them reprising their decades old roles, around the same age that characters had (teenagers) back then, then I don't think that's a good idea, honestly.

All of them are at least in their mid 50s now, and frankly, it IS noticeable, as much as I love those legendary voice actors from 80s, and 90s.

Megumi Hayashibara is able to do calm, emotionless voice for characters like Rei Ayanami, and still sound believably young, but that's about it

If she tries more energetic, lively roles, it becomes obvious that she isn't in 90s anymore, at least when it comes to characters like female Ranma.

It's unfortunate, but people age, and so do their voices.

- not that long ago, I heard Yoshiko Sakakibara reprising her Haman role as some office lady, or something, and it simply sounded terrible, IMO.

I've only seen Maison Ikkoku and Ranma 1/2, I've seen scenes from Inuyasha but I've never seen Urusei Yatsura. I think the issue with Rumiko Takahashi's works is that her mangas are all very long, and of all the adaptations, only Maison Ikkoku mananges to cover the whole story beginning to end. I remember for Ranma 1/2 there was a lot of filler, and then the ending of the anime doesn't even cover 2/3 of the manga, you have to watch the OVAs and films to get the proper ending.

So if anything, I would say Ranma 1/2 is the most appropriate to get a remake a la Brotherhood. Maison Ikkoku is already complete and it's the lesser known of her works (even though its arguably one of the better ones) and Inuyasha has already had a lot of recent stuff. Also I don't think 1 pound Gospel ever got a full adaptation aside from a 1 hour OVA, that is another option.

is the remake of Urusei Yatsura really that popular in Japan?

Anyway, I'd love to see remakes of Ranma 1/2 (one of my favourite series) , Maison Ikkoku and Inuyasha (although I have a feeling that Ranma would be seriously censored), but I doubt they will start remaking them

http://cal.syoboi.jp/rank2

It's ranked #8, which makes it one of the most popular shows over there right now.

Besides, it IS the modern adaptation of Urusei Yatsura, anime in which Lum, one of the most iconic characters in Japanese history, is.

I dunno about the rest but Inuyasha is fine as it is. The new sequel Yashahime felt bland and soulless. It lacked the charm of the original. So I don't think I'd want more Inuyasha anime.

The nice thing about anime/cartoons verses live action movies and shows(except soap operas, Because they recast actors/actresses for characters all the time)  and that you can just find a voice actors/actresses that sound like or close to the original voice actors/actresses. Heck since the tv series ended many decades ago I don't think most fans would even care if the voice actors/actresses in a continuation of a series didn't sound like the original voice actors/actresses from 30 plus years ago from the tv series.

@ezikialrage

I understand what you mean, but I think that the more we are moving away from the past decades, the more are people in anime industry prefering to just reboot the series from the start, instead of doing sequels.
