I accidentally saw "Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria" on the main MAL, it turned out to be a novel, but I really liked the illustrations, so I decided to read it.

It was the Boogiepop opening that made me want to read it, I read part of it and stopped.
Then I tried the Kara no Kyoukai light novel but it wasn't fully translated.

Now I have almost finished my first light novel/webnovel becuase of the manhwa counterpart and can happily say it's the best piece of fiction I've read.
Omniscient Readers Viewpoint.

Now I have a long list of light/webnovels to get through.

probably Chiramune (pretty unique romcom harem with superior complex main character and also all harem girl had actually personality, purpose, writers don't just make or use them like waifu bait useless)
Torture Princess (dark fantasy, gore and blood, it good if can see in anime uncensored, sadly it not doing selling good enough in Japan to had adaptation anime 😥
Re:Zero (another not generic isekai, this had something dark, gore, psychological concept, also underdog main character, good development plot, interesting world-building, Witches, Sage, Dragon, Sword Saint? pretty cool)

it did what i didn't expect in any Yuri bait, it actually turned into a Yuri. I'm happy just for that. It's slow for my liking though

I never heard it was yuri bait, it is a full-fledged yuri. ig you are mistaken with My Next Life as a Villainess.

For me, its bunny girl senpai. Suffered a big anime depression when I finished the anime so I bought 3 later volumes. However I found the stories to be quite boring so after finishing 2 volumes, I put the third volume on hold.

Slayers is the only light novel worth reading.

Because it (indirectly) pokes fun at how stupid light novels are 99.9% of the time.

Rent A Girlfriend

I watched first season and just wanted to know what will happen. So I read the manga. And let me tell you slice of life are only interesting in anime. I read nice amount of manga but nothing actually happened. Manga is still not finished tho. But I will read after a year when the manga is over. It was really boring.

Haruhi Suzumiya, I’ve recently started collecting the series since I can’t get enough of Nagaru Tanigawa’s writing style. I have also been wanting to start getting the Magical Girl Raising Project books for even longer but haven’t gotten around to it yet.

I guess that's true enough, but Slayers did it better and with more bite.

I am in to classic literature, more than manga so it was actually a plus that LN's do have some illustrations when you're used to plain text and I have an active imagination which is important in text only's.
My Teen Romantic Comedy was the first Light Novel I bought and was hooked, even before I started watching anime regularly I was like 11, so it's 5 years back but I don't read a lot of LN's, only some popular and interesting ones.

Light novels are more the equivalent of dime store trash, not classic literature.

It was Spice and Wolf for me I loved Holo and wanted to see the end of her and Lawrence's journey and I don't regret it. Next was Monogatari I was very satisfied with the adaptation and decided to pick up the books which I don't regret either. Both series have been great reads.

Actually I started reading a Light novel after reading the manga of Hige hiro. I dont know, I just liked the manga and the cover of the manga was always boasting about Light novels popularity so I just went on picked the light novel version as well.
If you enjoyed the time you wasted, then its not a waste of time.

I really enjoyed the portions of Kono Suba that have been animated so I decided to check out the light novel and read a little bit into the future to see what happens next. Was entertaining but the comedy didn't hit as hard for me in writing vs. on screen. I'll probably pick it up again in the future but I'm not in a huge hurry

i watch and enjoy fan service but when i call a character Pedo. I i mean it. Rudeus is a pedo, degenerate, pervert and put everything in that category. Read the novel when i was into binging and dropped that shite within 5 chapters. He's a creep and should be in the list with Redo of the Healer cast. R would jive well with the Epstein crowd.

86 is another light novel I'm really interested in reading. How does it differ from the anime adaptation?

The light novel doesn’t differ from the anime at all, it is just more detailed. The first 1 and 2 volumes each cover the first one and two seasons of the anime. Volume 2 had a slow pace and felt overwhelming, but it gets better from volume 3 and upwards; would recommend you to read from the start, don’t skip.
Anime skips all the world building of vol 1 it's so inferior i don't know if the next seasons will be effected by this or not

Overlord.
Was amazed by the amazing worldbuilding in the light novel which the anime fails to capture as it cuts out a lot of content from the source material.
Another case of the source material being way better than the anime adaptation.

The first light novels I read were all 1 volume stuff related to anime series I liked a lot, Digimon Tamers 1984, Death Note Another Note and Angel Beats Track Zero.

Mushoku Tensei was the first one I read that was longer than that, now I'm planning to read several popular LNs, continuing with Kumo Desu.

you do know they are responsible for the young people to pick up print media which is on the decline. Just don't diss them because you consider them low class.

So in other words, popular light novels are exactly like those western novels I mentioned. I said nothing about their quality; the only one calling them "low class" is you.

Pick up Overlord or Tensura along the way. They are very dense and anime had to skimp on some stuff which are important for world building. Also don't even for a second thik Ainz is the good guy. From a certain point on he starts showing his true self blantantly.

For me, the first major one was Grimgar. The anime was really intriguing, and the light novel has become my favorite. I've read all 16 (plus volume 14.5) volumes released in the US so far. Volume 17 releases in a few days, and I'm pretty psyched.

Other favorites that I started reading because of the anime are Rokka no Yuusha, Magical Girl Raising Project, and No Game No Life.

On the other hand, reading Pretty Boy Detective Club, Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear, Zaregoto, and How Not to Summon a Demon Lord caused me to want to watch the anime!

the orphanage and the fishing village. Anime Skipped ask the extortion, rape and murders. The fishing village was the worst, the bandits killed all the men and took the women as "comfort women". Later parts to fill the part o read weren't that dark.

Oh yeah lol. I wasn't bothered, if it wasn't obvious by the fact that I didn't really notice how much it was toned down. If anything, those parts feel out of place to me in the novels themselves. It makes sense that the anime would want to be a bit more cohesive and keep it fluffy. Like, there's a time and a place for that stuff, but I'm not convinced Kuma Bear is where it belongs to begin with. I'd be more concerned if they took a dark series and watered it down to that extent.

Telling a cohesive story is more important to me than loyalty to the source material. That's probably why I didn't even realize they'd glossed it over to begin with, TBH.

To Aru & Overlord were the first to convince me to read the novels.

To Aru because I heard Railgun was adapted well, but not Index. And boy are they right. Hard to reccomend Index's anime with what I know now

Overlord because of the simple fact I learned the different art in the end credits are the style of the novel illustrations

I mean, look at this!!! better believe i wanted more
