Yeah, this is bound to fail. It‘ll probably end up looking worse than the 80s show I hate this trend of remaking/rebooting old series. How has this is ever worked out?

Looks okay to me, I got no issues with this.

At least this can potentially serve as an entry point to pick up the original series. But if there's something that we can fully agree about this: this ain't going to be a long-running one unlike the Mamoru Oshii series.

Those with dirty minds will find my Steam pic offensive

I never could finish the first anime adaptation as I used to watch on television long ago, but I remember it being really fun. First Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan and now Urusei Yatsura; I seriously hope they're more than simple nostalgia baits.

You guys really expected them to make 2 Jojo seasons in a row? David Productions have done other series that is not JoJo. The studio name is David Productions, not JoJo Productions or Araki Productions.

Great news, I was planning to watch the original but I think it's better waiting and watching it in better quality. I would love a remake of Maison Ikkoku too!!

As someone who's watched the original adapation and read the manga countless times I'm pretty excited, but it being a 4-cour makes me wonder what stories they'll pick and choose from.

I don't get how old anime is outdated, though. What improvements has it been dated by? I watch movies and shows from before I was born all the time.

Urusei Yatsura needs an update because the anime doesn't follow the manga. Most of each episode is filler.

It needed the remake when harems and romcoms were the trend (2000's), releasing it now will lead to very low sales just like Warau Salesman.

@Hoppy
It's a shame the 2008 Sunrise reboots were limited to a single episode each.

Rumiko Takahashi's works are well known, and Urusei Yatsura is no different. Here where I live, in Brazil, Inuyasha is the anime most known and liked by the public, regardless of age. It is great to have a remake of one of the most nostalgic projects for the childhood of many people. It's an evolution within the Japanese market. I didn't see the current remakes with a good perspective, because people much preferred the original material and the first anime (Shaman King and Dragon Quest), but now I'm happy that they are bringing this ambitious project. And if it works out (I hope), it's possible that we'll have more decent remakes coming in the future. This builds a new audience and gets a lot of people who have stopped watching anime to come back with this giant media. It's beneficial for everyone.

I hope that the staff that is committed to the project will keep the essence of Rumiko and not disappoint the large amount of its fans. That's the least we can expect from a timeless story.

Well, that was normal for that time. The TV production ran at a different pace than the print side, and long-running TV adaptations frequently ran into the problem of running out of manga chapters and being forced into filling the slot with a side-story. With Urusei Yatsura, that is also how we got Lum's Stormtroopers, who were only early background characters but became named characters in the TV series.

Not good enough for younger viewers. Need to remove all that pesky grain, replace the painted backgrounds with clean gradients and computer images, and compose it for widescreen, because 4:3 is so dated and the screen must be filled.

I'll check out the original Urusei Yatsura after Maison Ikkoku and probably never watch this.
Well, to be fair, old adaptations ARE kind of outdated at this point.

You and me may be fine with them, but it is perfectly understandable why someone born in late 90s, or early 2000s, or even younger would prefer to avoid those titles.

what do you mean? I was born in 94 yet I loved the old one due its comedy

Both the manga and the anime for urusei yatsura hold a special place in my heart. It was the anime that got me fully immersed into anime, so i'm really hoping that they don't screw this up( not that worried about that though, since it's david pro). I thought the series ended in a good way, so i'm not sure why they decided to bring it back. Nevertheless, i'll still watch it all, since i just love the series <3 ^^

I wonder how much they'll change, FujiTV has been pretty progressive lately I hope they dont change too much about the perverted comedy. Ataru's leechness is one of his main traits after all hehe

In the second part of eo.3 Zoku Owarimonogatari was something that might be an Urusei Yatsura reference, where Ataru-looking Koyomi got zapped. So it's somewhat funny that Hiroshi Kamiya got this role now.

Because of the setting where Lum mistakes MC's words and gets into a one-sided relationship while he is interested in someone else but they still end up together. It's one of my most hated settings.
