I created this topic because I saw this tweet (the video is in spanish) https://twitter.com/AlainGasga/status/1402617497434591239?s=20

If you don't wanna watch the video or don't understand spanish: he's not a hikikomori, he just watches too much anime | Edit: just if you wanted to know, that guy is 22 years old

but people misunderstand it, when you say "I watched 2000 animes" most people think you've watched 2000 different worlds/stories, but I'm sure that guy uses MAL and of course counts movies, OVAs, ONAs, specials as +1 more anime

I admire them. They're wise. A true weeb.
All weebs creatures of the galaxy, hear this message. Those of you who listen will not be struck by western animation. You will no longer know hunger, nor pain. Your Anime have come to lead you now. Our strength shall serve as a luminous sun toward which all intelligence may blossom. And the impervious shelter beneath which you will prosper. However, for those who refuse our offer and cling to their western animation ways… For you, there will be great wrath.

I think it only looks insane until you take into consideration how long they’ve been watching anime for, since a lot of them tend to have been watching years so naturally it stacks up; if you want to see if someone is crazy see how many episodes per week they watch, the most I’ve seen was like 120 in a week?

Eh, depends on how they got 2000 scores. If they got there by watching stuff they don't care for, I would tell them to spend their time a little more wisely.

But if they just watch a lot of stuff that they have interest in, or at least find enjoyment in the act of watching a metric fuckton of shows, I'm all for it.

When I see people like this I look at the hours spent and they would of needed to spend 8 hours a day every day for around 5 years straight, watching nothing but anime. Do they not go to school?, have a job? How do they live?

i think there are barely 2000 tv anime (one can reasonably watch), not counting sequels, etc.. maybe even less if you discount shorts series

counting anime is a hard job

"What do you think of a person who've watched +2000 animes?"

- This is kind of average.
- As mentioned before in similar topics the more important is: how much time it took you to complete them?
For example it took me decades to finish my 1450 titles, which demonstrates me as a slow watcher.

As it stands, I've seen (or completed) 2,240 anime. Idk what the guy watched, but given how much stuff you can complete in a short amount of time, it's not that hard to complete a couple thousand titles that you can find on MAL.

I'm blushing rn.

My current goal is to revamp all the character details for High School DxD and have all the characters included in the DB.

I don't think anything about them tbh. If that's what they like doing, good on them, I don't really give a toss whether they spend 24 hours a day watching anime or if it took them 40 years to watch that many.

To be honest it's no sorcery to reach that number if you watch long enough. I watch anime for about 30 years and have over 2000 complete entries, of course there are many movies, specials, OVAs and even some hentai included. With watching seasonal anime I add around 100 entries per year. In my childhood it was less because you could only rely on what was airing on TV.

It don't take even a year to watch over 1000 animes, if you choose only movies, OVAs, artistic short films, ONAs, specials, anime/game commercials, music videos and short form series etc.

There is also few clubs for them:

They just don't have a life, or they just watch only anime, for instance I watch more tv series than anime. Personally for example I didn't even add many of the ones I watched cause I'm lazy.. Some add everything. And many of them also insert tons of anime with 3-5 mins duration and few eps only..

what i think depends on their favorites. some of them end up having a very refined and particular taste and have a better understanding of why they feel that way than others. but then some just never reach that despite watching thousands of anime and hundreds of days.

as it stands there are probably total 1500 anime that i would like to watch at some point so its difficult to see myself ever reaching that milestone

I don't know, I am aware that I'll eventually be such a person. However I don't feel admiration, pity, surprise or worry for them, or myself.

Will this keep progressing? Are we going to see a thread about 3000+ and 4000+ soon?

I'm at 2000+ myself (most of them are shorts). I think it's fine. Do whatever you want with your free time. Obviously don't let it ruin the other parts of your life, but if it's just in your free time then it's not a problem.

If I hadn't get to 900+ myself without even trying, I'd question how they managed to do it even taking movies, OVA etc. into account.
Actually since it took me from early 2000's until now and I'm only in the 900s, I still kinda question it...

They like anime.
Their life is anime.
They are happy.
They should continue to watch more and more,
till they see them all.

That is just something that happens when you have watched anime for a long time. If you watch 3 episodes per day and every anime you would watch are 12 episodes long you would have watched 2000 anime in around 22 years.

"I think I wanted to attack something. Like betraying people or hurting people. And, well, it's not exactly nice, but hurting the readers too... In all honestly, I feel that's what I really wanted to do. For me, as a reader, when I think, "this manga will remain in my heart," it means, for example, it phenomenally hurt me: It's those kinds of experiences I'm after." - Pajime Hisayama (My favourite hurting author).

Artificially increasing the number of series watched.

Let's say you have 2000 completed of which 1000 are shorts. If someone doesn't look at your list and only the stats they would think you have seen 2000 titles when in reality it is mostly fillers.

It is fine if you enjoy shorts and watching those, but I mean it is lying when someone tries to use their number of seen anime to claim experience on a subject matter.

I mean okay yes, but I list things mainly for myself, so I don't forget their title etc.

Yeah, that's why the number of days watched tells more about an anime fan.
I got ca 250 days and that's a reasonable number for someone, who watches anime for 22 years. Ofc I had some breaks inbetween, but still. Also I have seen much higher numbers of days watched.

Ofc days watched is what people should be looking at instead of completed, I agree.

There is nothing wrong just listing stuff for yourself, but many add shorts or stuff they haven't even finished as completed to claim false authority in anime circles.
