Fantastic Children.

Its janky character designs deter people from what is probably the single greatest narrative in all of anime.

This glorious signature image was created by @Mayumi!

I am the Arbiter of Absolute Truth, and here is my wisdom:

"Anime was always influenced by the West. This is not news.
Shoujo is the superior genre primarily aimed at young people.
Harem/isekai are lazy genres that refuse any meaningful innovation.
There is no 'Golden Age.' There will always be top-shelf anime.
You should be watching Carole & Tuesday."

Eww Gleipnir.

I mean if we're going to consider Gleipnir as "hidden" then I can list Ping Pong, Luluco, Princess Tutu, Zetsubou Sensei, Land of the Lustrous, After the Rain, Casshern Sins and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind cause they all have fewer members than Gleipnir.

For my real answer: Natsu no Arashi and Dragon Dentist, feels weird how unknown those shows are considering they're not old and don't have short episodes.

Golden Kamuy is one of those I consider as hidden gems. Other one would be ef a tale of melodies, though the episodes are pretty avant garde in terms of direction.
Even if I'm alone, I'll go, even if I want to die.
I can hear your voice, saying I shouldn't die.
Even if it's difficult, even if I cry from loneliness
I can feel warmth from deep inside my heart.

Going round-and-round and flowing, time is ever-changing.
I can't remember what happened anymore, but
If I try and close my eyes, I can hear someone's laughing voice
For some reason, now, that is My Most Precious Treasure.

Kono Oto Tomare I love it so much. It’s heavily underrated I really don’t know why people skipped it well it’s music it’s not for everyone so that explains much.

Kemono no Souja. I have never met someone that has seen it outside of the internet. I was kind of surprised that it has 70k members on MAL, but I still consider it pretty hidden.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex series

Houseki no Kuni is a gem for sure too.

Gleipnir was a terrible anime tbh.

Not sure that would be considered a hidden gem. It's pretty well known.

Ghost in the Shell movie is.
The anime series isn't, probably because it not available to stream anywhere outside of USA legally.

Hmm. Might be because I grew up with it and it was on TV.

There are many many, but I'll give a shoutout to Romeo and the Blue Skies:

a very tightly written story about child chimney sweepers that can be enjoyed at all ages, with several important messages and themes that are explored with maturity.

Tatami Galaxy.
Very few people have watched it maybe because of the art style or the crazy pace of the voice actors(won't get enough time to read the subs), but its worth it.

Definite hidden gems:
Haibane Renmei, Texhnolyze, Gankutsuou, Shinsekai Yori, Bokurano, Eden of the East, Houseki No Kuni, Mononoke, Rainbow, The Tatami Galaxy.

Gems but skeptical if they're "hidden":
March Comes in Like a Lion, Golden Time, I Want To Eat Your Pancreas, Serial Experiments Lain, Shiki, Kuzu No Honkai.

i feel like dramatical murder is overly hated because it's either, to yaoi or not yaoi enough. I also think that when it was first broadcast there were some animation issues that were later fixed with the BD release, but people still rate it based on its first airing.

I did like it, mostly because of the futuristic setting which was still relatable to a person in the mid 00's.

I would say mostly older anime which have been forgotten about. Especially stuff which aired on TV during a time where it was easy to not even know the name of the show you were watching.

my list would include

princess resurrection (the dub, the sub is meh)
gokudo (troll adventurer, lots of folklore elements, very comedic)
Needless( a very fun parody)

there's a lot more, some of them are meant more for specific audiences and if you're not part of that audience then it won't be as good of a watch

Joshikousei no mudadzukai is a show I wish more people would be aware of. The comedy is way better and the jokes are funnier than Danshi koukousei no nichijou.

Gunsmith Cats! It's a comfy mid 90s anime with all the typical 90s anime charm. It's got good action, good characters, but by far the thing to appreciate the most about it is that you can tell the creator knows a lot about guns! if you're a gun lover, this is the anime to watch! The only downside is that it's only 3 episodes...

Yozakura Quartet Hana no Uta + the OVAs (maybe the og one too?),Not definitely ground breaking or anything but the animators did sure have fun with it(the rebbot ver.) And it is very anime "anime" if that makes sense.

And I would like to have a Season 2 for more sakuga.

With the popularity of Vtubers (And HoloGra) I think gdgd fairies should have more eyeballs on it.
The whole show is a group of Seiyuu doing improv to whatever crazy thing the animators have made.
It's below 5k users on here.

Katanagatari is a hidden gem that utilizes the Monogatari concept & style in every better way possible & yet for some reason is much underwatched compared to the Monogatari series.
