Name some shonen anime that are pretty mature compared to other shonen. For me, I'd have to say Hunter X Hunter, Death Note, Attack on Titan, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.

It's hard to win an argument against smart people, but impossible to win an argument against dumb ones.

I think what you named are pretty mature, maybe JJK too? It's darker than your typical shonen I guess.
I sometimes forget to finish my sentences.

Soul Eater. I mean, haven't watched the anime of SE, just the manga, but geez, psychology of characters in the latter part of the series gets so relatable and built up, I just can't
Aaand Mob Psycho 100, the second season at least: the emphasis is on adults who can't find their place in life, and the series shows it in a pretty mature way, I think

EDIT: Why are people mentioning Chainsaw Man and Fire Punch, this is a topic about shounen anime xdd

Neon Genesis Evangelion might count because its manga is serialized in a shounen magazine

What's up with the obsession of labelling a shounen as mature? Most things people consider mature is actually really infantile (sex, violence, blood, etc) and that mean they are exactly intended for a more immature audience. Just what shounen means afterall.

What does "mature" mean? Is lots of blood mature?
People mentioned Akame ga Kill, I might've watched a different version.
If you're a fanboy, please don't waste my time.

Watch more movies, please.

Perhaps, this is hell.

I don't think you know what infantile means.

Oh I get it, I misused a word. Though my point still stand. Lots of blood don't really make something more mature.

Your post has fair points (violence, sex, blood doesn't = mature) but I think it's a bit unfair to say those same things are intended for younger audiences. I personally would not think an anime like Ninja Scroll would be considered immature because it has a lot of nudity, violence, and blood.

The thing is that in shounen anime, the violence is more like a gimmick that work the best for a younger audience (12-17 years old). So the violence is purposedly added there to cater to the teenagers who gets easily impressed by some blood.

Death Note is Shounen but it's not Battle Shounen and I think Death Note is more mature than HxH.

Pumpkin Scissor is pretty mature manga/anime. The manga started 2002 and is still going on. The story tells about the aftermath of war and how it affected both Victors and losers, even the side that won is struggling.

According to MAL A Silent Voice is a Shounen. Now, it's been a while since I've actually read the manga so I don't remember how mature it actually was, but it's most definitely more mature than most of these Shounen examples with the topic it tackles.

In any other topic like this I would have agreed, but I'll defend the OP since they specified in their title "mature compared to other shonen".

Hunter x hunter is definetly the most mature shounen from what I’ve seen everything else doesn’t seem to delve into the dark themes and shows it’s explicitly like hunter x hunter.

But childish violence doesn't mean it's more mature since it's added specifically for a shounen audience.

No one's mentioned "Beastars" yet. I believe it's a good example of a (shōnen) series that's both mature and dark. "Imawa no Kuni no Alice", too.

The original FMA. Probably the only battle shounen I actually like, because it's grounded and pretty much character driven. It doesn't throw BS over the top action at you at every turn just because that's the genre it belongs to. And the characters feel really human, rather than borderline superheros that mostly exist to show a spectacle.

This isn't what you're looking for but I'm trying to make a point.
Naruto was one of the first big battle shounen I watched, I was pretty skeptical about shounen at that point (and the filler eps, and Sakura, are a whole other matter) but I was genuinely surprised at the beginning at the themes and presentation of the show. Some of it felt clearly adult to me even though maybe it wasn't, but many of the themes which were also sometimes handled well and executed well were of the all-encompassing kind of the type that either anyone can identify with or any parent watching a cartoon with their child would also feel entertained. Something for everyone Universal human emotions, good character development and drama, that's more "mature" than edgy teen angst or mature rated gore/semi-porn/anything else tweenies can think of.

(But then that was only part of it.
(Then came Sakura, then came fillers, and other stuff that made you roll your eyes)

AoT and hxh(its not what you think) imo, they centered in deppression and dark theme

Psycho-pass, the seinen tag is fake, its basically tpn and death note combined but with actions and more mature
