I'm largely an action specialist and am a general fan of fantasy.

it could be either shonen or seinen, and it could be non violent action like sports. All that matters is that it is entertaining.

My taste has always been all over the place.
I'll watch anything I feel is interesting, no matter the genre, and I am capable of loving any type of fiction.

I'm strongly drawn towards SoL and coming-of-age shows and its gotten to the point where I can identify exactly what makes each anime unique in their own way. To others my list probably seems fairly homogeneous especially with 8 of my 10 favorites coming from only 3 studios but I can tell you that its quite a varied selection. I'm also open to watching anything but I know I have a strong bias so I picked "quite varied".

You listed some generic mass-audience series and consider your "taste" to be a strange one? A strange one.
Look at me instead. I have quite a strange "taste", because it seems even today I am stuck viewing and appreciating Japanese art, while the majority here keeps on gulping entertainment like McBurgers, without an afterthought post the fact.

It's common for people to have varying tastes.

If a show is watched at a specific time that will leave a lasting memory, for some people, this is a cause of a 'Favourite Show'. This is why I love SAO:OS because it came at the right time, when I needed something to cool off to, and just some nostalgic shounen SAO BS was the perfect thing for that.

I don't find your taste strange at all. There's really not much contrast or distinction between your 10 favorites that would deem them diverse or all over the place.

I've only seen very little of Princess Tutu, but that's the only one that stands out to me. The rest are similar enough thematically, visually, and in terms of popularity that I would definitely put them in the same sphere together. They're all from the same 2 decades, as well. A few from the mid to late 2000s and then the 2010s. I'm not sure what you mean by "impact on the fanbase" because you could group most together, as well. I don't see much variation aside from their genres. At their core, they fit together.

I like to think my taste is varied since I'm generally open to any genre, demographic, time period, and style. I wouldn't say my taste is strange though since most should be able to see a clear pattern in the anime I gravitate to.

Doesn't really seem too strange. All my favourites are either about war or family, so I have fairly uniform taste. Your taste is very centric towards otaku media, with you having TWGOK, Haruhi, KonoSuba, and Violet Evergarden. All the other ones (apart from Tutu) are just popular shows in general.

So I woudn't call your taste "strange" at all. Maybe if you had some 70's action shows mixed in (such a Casshern, Gatchaman and Devilman) I'd call it strange.

I admire it for its philosophy and conceptualization of the whole thing. Not many people are willing to put so much effort in something so silly. Also it has some sick soundtrack.

Well, I guess they're not strange (besides Nichijou and Asobi Asobase, that basically are slice of life on drugs), but yeah I think they're quite diversified :

- Natsume Yuujinchou
- Mushishi
- Made in Abyss
- 3-gatsu no Lion
- Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu
- Durarara!!
- Kimetsu no Yaiba
- Mo Dao Zu Shi
- Shinsekai Yori

- Asobi Asobase
- Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex
- Cowboy Bebop
- Baccano!
- many Ghibli movies
- Katanagatari
- Barakamon
- Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu

I've got basically everything except genres like ecchi or harem

Seems to me like you have great taste in anime, you have seen good anime of almost every genre. Since I was introduced to anime because of shounen I am a little biased towards it but I do enjoy other genres as long as it's entertaining as a matter of fact I saw Yuri on Ice and I had a great time though I wasn't expecting much from it.

Well, I guess it's all battle shounen with some sports shounen in them so I guess it's not varied at all lol. I watched quite a variety of genre but in the end, I always know what I enjoyed most. It's bromance and friendship (which is pretty much the theme of most shounen)

Most of them are supernatural anime (which all contain either an immortal, a demon of some sort or both). On the other hand, I know that almost all of them are incomplete adaptations (with some are in some sort of sequel limbo).

Judging from most responses, I guess the fact that I have "strange taste" was a very "strange" thing to say.

Honestly, I find it more strange that so many people have these very narrow tastes where they only like one or two specific types of shows and shit on everything else. I can appreciate almost any kind of story/anime so to me having a diverse range of shows and genres under your belt is more normal than the opposite. Although if we are just talking about the favorites on the profile, if you limit them to 10 they are not gonna be as diverse because it's such a small number. But personally I consider all my 9s and 10s my favorites and my 8s my extended favorites and you'll find almost any kind of show among those.
I probably regret this post by now.

I don't see every genre, but I see a lot of them: Slice of life, comedy, drama, thriller, fantasy, adventure, romance (including BL, though less these days), action.

I don't tend to watch mecha, sci-fi, ecchi and horror. Do I have zero of them? No, but not many.

But I admit I don't tend to watch all the battle shonens everyone watch (more or less) like Fairy Tail, Hunter x Hunter, My Hero Academia, Black Clover and so on.

I've seen weirder than yours.

I don't think my taste is that weird either. It has some darker stuff, some lighter stuff, some older stuff, some newer stuff,... you get the deal, it's varied. The only thing I would really be surprised by is if someone had Mars of Destruction, Bible Black and Ping Pong the Animation together in a list of favorites. Anyway, my favorites in no particular order:

Princess Tutu
Monster
Hibike! Euphonium
Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki
Akira
Kizumonogatari II: Nekketsu-hen (stands for Monogatari in its total)
Serial Experiments Lain
Higurashi no Naku koro Ni
Clannad: After Story (stands for Clannad in its total)

Thanks for your explanation. I mean, I understand that. Many genres have a special appeal to them that others lack.
The other thing is: depending on much time I have, I reduce my consum to the series I want to watch badly or not. Or I rewatch stuff I really liked and then, your taste could appeal as more narrow, I think. But sometimes / more regularly I of course enjoy other stuff too, it's just that my motivation isn't that high for many other stuff.

or i could be on mecha like Eureka Seven, Neon Genesis Evangelion , Rahxephon, and gurren Lagann or i could be on a kiddy mecha like Zoids Chaotic Century and Zoids New Century Zero
or i can be an adult-teenager with stuff like naruto and Bleach
or in another moment i could be watching something weird like gantz or Parasyte
or mysterious and horrifying like Another or Higurashi When They Cry (VN and manga's truly better :P)
yeah i don't stick to one genre only

Eh, not really anything that would be a mismatch with each other. There are beside many reasons why I have added those titles in my list so it's not only about my taste in fiction. Fav manga list reflects that better.

Yeah I also check out much less shows from hit-or-miss genres when I don't have much time since I can't afford to spend the time to find out which ones work for me and which don't. It's safer to stick with genres that have a higher probability of being to my liking in these situations. But even when I 'trim down' like that I end up checking out 10+ shows each season :>.

How things changed. When I was a kid, I used to watch shonen series (you know,
like Dragon Ball, Pokemon, Digimon, etc...), later, on high school, I used to look after whatever I wanted to watch, but I used to look after gore series (like Elfen Lied, Hellsing, Ga Rei Zero...). Now, I prefer comedy, (could be slice of life or even romantic comedies, the best series that I've encountered are Asobi Asobase, Demi-chan wa Kataritai and Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii...)

Your taste is really nothing special. Your favorites is almost entirely comprised of recent, popular shows, most of them being aimed toward the same demographic too. I see nothing out of the ordinary.
But I'm nothing wild either to be completely honest. I have a clear bias toward older shows, and psychological. I don't feel oneself should determine how 'weird' ones taste is either, you can try to argue whether or not your own taste is varied or not, but looking at your favorites list, I do not see that variety.
Despite all that, there's nothing really wrong with your taste, enjoy whatever you want.
