Im saddly unaware of the whole higurashi story, was there a whole lot of unused materials to adapt? If not, then what does everyone feel about a remake of one of the best animes created.

Moderator note: This thread may contain spoilers for the Higurashi anime series and visual novels. I'd advice people to use spoiler tags as much as possible, but this discussion is bound to have some spoilers if you're not familiar at all with the series.

New chapters were added over time. The original eight chapters were all previously adapted (some of them were cut down for time, though), so this might be a reboot or will adapt the manga and PS2/DS-exclusive chapters separately.

Only thing that may make this not worth watching it as it airs is the censorship, but I think there's potential in bringing it back and including more chapters or even putting in the cut scenes from the original chapters to give it a more complete feel. The updated artwork may help, too, although the music's going to be hard to top imho. They may either remake the OST or adapt the VN music, honestly can't see them making original music.

A remake would be nice! Season 1 could use some improvements, and season 2 was such a train-wreck it could not possibly be worse!
Even if they added a large dog who says "Higurashi-doo!" all the time...

Quite excited for this! I'm hoping for a remake. That way we have hope for a Umineko reboot in the future, too. Down with the DEEN! :D

The visual novel can't be well adapted. There is too much content.
So it will be like the first anime a bad adaptation, but with good visuals.

Rose Gun Days could be a better idea.

The new artstyle is something I will need to get used to.
I really liked the old ones especially in S2.

I'm assuming this'll be a reboot?

I've never played the visual novels, but I don't see what they could improve upon the previous anime other than the art. We all know this is getting, at the very best, 24 or 25 episodes, which is not enough for anything new in terms of story unless they cut content or increase the pacing. Either way I don't see this being better than what we already had, which begs the question of why even bothering to make it. Again, this is all assuming it'll be a reboot.

Worst case scenario? They'll try to adapt Higurashi and Kai each into a 12 episodes season, which would be a disaster IMO.

Calling Higurashi Kai a disaster is some buffoonery if I've ever seen it.
Regardless, I think a reboot could be good if they play from the strengths of the original adaptation and improve what didn't work about it, namely the dated visuals and the overemphasis on gore that gave people a very misleading impression about what the story's focus even was.

Of course any anime adaptation of the VN is going to have to work heavily with pacing though, and that's my main concern. The Deen anime I personally think did a pretty good job with pacing, as far as adapting the prior material to television, but a new production comes with the risk of screwing that up the next time. Either way, I'm excited because I love Higurashi, but my optimism is cautious.

Honestly don't know how to feel about this. I'm assuming it is going to be a Remake. The only one that needs a remake really is Umineko. Studio Passione will be alright I guess. There is no way they're going to top the original anime's OST that shit still haunts me.

Welp time will tell.

I'm a little concerned about the studio behind it, and if this is a reboot or not, but either way I'm happy to see more higurashi content. I'm also pretty hyped to see Akio Watanabe on the character designs, his work is great.

I have absolutely no interest in seeing this if it's a remake in part or in whole of any part of the original two seasons, as they're exactly masterful to me and have zero interest in seeing them redone in any capacity.

But if it's any supplemental material like the OVAs and specials, I'll watch it regardless of genre, tone, or quality. Didn't care that much for Rei apart from an isolated few shining moments and really disliked most of Kira, but I'll still watch anything new from the Higurashi-verse. Just no remakes.

It has to be a damn good remake if it is. Solid animation is hard to come by nowadays without it being overly bright and overblown.

Something is rubbing me the wrong way about this.
Don't get me wrong, I love Higurashi, the story it told (and wishing for an Umineko remake... I mean, I tried the games, but I think my not-so-smart brain died at a certain point), but usually, when something like this happens, it doesn't exactly go well. At least when considering reboots/remakes.

If it does though, well, I'll be the first to say I'm surprised it blew my expectations away. This has got me thinking though, that there's plenty of good visual novels out there that could be adapted. Personally, I'd love Kara no Shojo, but... I feel that might be a little hard to adapt considering some of the content.

Good luck to the creators, 'cause this is a mammoth of a project, and damn, I'll say first it'll be hard to make an OP that takes on the first OP of the original. Still a good one to this day.
"You know you've reached peak quality when a doujin is better than the actual source series." (Eg. To LOVE-Ru)

Just to list a couple of biases.
Likes: A good story, characters, writing, romance, a good plot twist or something that breaks expectations (In a good way), 'backstory' and justice.
Dislikes: Bad romance, too much fanservice, the harem genre, yuri, yaoi, and bad writing.

will it be with Hanyuu, Miyo Takano and other relevant characters that would make this remake more senseful to people that haven't watched the series?

Its one the best anime series, and to be honest i liked the whole series pretty much and ffs if its a remake then i am not sure how they can further improve it more, the mindfund was just perfect, the art maybe they could improvise it (will it be as gore as before?) and there is no scope in improving the sound track it was simply perfect.

Love the Original Anime series of Higurashi, and will probably give this a shot, but not expecting it to top or better the original as that is just epic, hell they couldn't even top the OST tbh, the original OP gives chills down the spine, although the art style this time... not sure atm although didn't think Highschool DxD: Hero looked too bad.

I mean. I'm hoping it's a remake cause I do not care in the least about another waifu clickbait ova, and at least it wouldn't be worse than the original anime? Of course, it's going to be very difficult to do a good full adaptation unless the series was longer than the original, but one can hope. Heck, even if it was the same story standard at least there'd be pretty visuals.
It'd also be interesting if it this was an adaptation of some of the other manga arcs....
