What are some anime that could use a remake?

I know that many people are opposed to remakes to shows given anime's track record, but I feel like in the right hands, it can improve upon an original. My show most needing of a remake is the original Higurashi. The animations just really don't look good, even for the time they were made, despite the story being so interesting. I feel like a face lift could bring the show to a new audience.

Edit: Thanks so much for all the comments. This is the first time I have ever posted anything on this site and am really happy with how many people responded. I honestly expected this to get no traction and be at 0 comments XD.

Mostly anime where the studio decided to diverge from the manga route ending:

Black Butler (just ignore the second season and continue from the first)
Tokyo Ghoul (same as black butler)
Pandora Hearts
Gakuen Alice
Akame Ga Kill

Barring obvious answers like TG and AkG, I think Initial D would be cool to see a remake, at least the 1st and maybe 2nd seasons with updated car visuals. Yea there's the movie, but most of the actual racing was pretty much sacrificed for non-CG drawings

That or maybe His and Her Circumstances with updated art style (although still keeping the funny expressions) and actually finishing the story this time

I would love to see an Aku no Hana remake in the future, be it an actual series or film. Not saying the original wasn't good, but I just personally didn't like the rotoscoping style.

I think Yu Yu Hakusho shouldn't get readapted

What really should be redone is Shonan Junai Gumi! or GTO: The Early Years it did gain a 5 episode OVA in the 90s by J.C. Staff but was awful in tone and pacing. Not to mention the condensing of story into such a short span.

Oooh, original TLR wouldn't hurt, the first season strayed really far from the source. I like it still, but I do think the source is better and would like to see it stay on course a bit more. Xebec's dead though, so Iunno if I really want that xP

C3 could use a visual upgrade a bit. When they ate curry, the curry looked like fucking poop. It disgusted me and I would want the whole show to remade because of that nitpick >_>

Wizard Girl Ambitious, but this time with Rafaero's route :P Was always a giant sucker for her and was sad she was pretty much completely irrelevant in the hentai.

Nah, Higurashi is fine the way it is. At least they got to tell the full story. If I'd ask for anything, it would be a full adaptation of Umineko.

As for remakes, off the top of my head I'd ask for any of these; remake them and adapt the full manga, like FMA did:
-Pandora Hearts
-Elfen Lied
-Soul Eater
-Ouran High School Host Club

Also, remake Occultic;Nine and give it at least 24 episodes.

Since people have already mentioned the most popular examples, i’ll go with a lesser-known one: Bokurano.

The premise and plot were great and had a lot of potential, but the art and animation were very low-quality; especially the mechas, which were animated in shitty early-2000’s CGI. They also went for a non-canon happy-ish ending as opposed to the manga’s depressing ending.

The fate route of the fate series (fate/stay night from 2006). If ufotable were able to use their unlimited budget to do a remake it would be godly.

Give me a remake of
- Soul Eater (This one and Akame Ga Kill both got weird semi anime original treatment part way through.
- Akame Ga Kill
- Pandora Hearts (I liked the anime, but after reading the manga I think a remake is rather warranted)
- World Trigger (Such a great shounen manga deserves a well animated adaptation)
- Katekyou Hitman Reborn (I know the anime basically stops right before the manga goes downhill, but I wanna see the entire thing animated and paced better)
- Princess Tutu (I just wanna see my favorite magical girl anime get remade for the modern era)
- Slayers (Might as well push the reset button and adapt EVERYTHING)

Of the anime on here I feel that only the last 3 would possibly have a more negative reception than the original adaptation due to more stuff in the source material getting skipped or certain scenes simply being shot worse. I could see Reborn's comedy setup get utterly destroyed by a faster paced reboot, but the trade off could possibly be worth it. Princess Tutu had a strange thing going on with the episodes after the first cour and I get this feeling that if it were changed there would be some people who would be upset. They could also adapt the manga adaptation of Princess Tutu instead of remake the anime and oh boy would that be the single most hated anime of whatever year it would release in. Slayers is a pretty big tossup. The original anime did well at adapting the light novels before later seasons became anime original so it's possible that a worse adaptation of those early volumes would cause a bit of unrest. That said, I still really wanna see them remade.

Off the top, these 3 just need the FMAB treatment:

Berserk: It's one of the best stories out there. Even though I loved the gritty feel of the 1997 version, I wouldn't mind an updated version that was animated with same style of Megalobox or something.
Claymore: I like the dark fantasy type of setting. This one would look great with a fresh coat of paint on it. The ending of the anime left much to be desired.
Deadman Wonderland: I've only heard good things about the manga. If they stuck closer to that, it'd undoubtedly be better. All they would need to do is keep the original opening song.

Uhm... I can only think of Fate/Stay night (2006) from Studio Deen. More specifically, the whole "Fate" Route. Not for its animation but because of how the anime diverges from the VN during the last few episodes. It was not a big deal but a more faithful adaptation would be nice. And not to mention that some more inner monologues for the MC would be even better too.

Oh, and of course. If there's ever a chance of a remake, I JUST hope the assigned studio to not use a fight against an awful CGI dragon as an analogy for intercourse...

That would be great. Watching one of my childhood anime again would be awesome.

Anyways I dont mind the choices most people chose, as it would give me an excuse to actually watch those shows if they came out again today.

i suppose the rurouni kenshin manga should get a full reboot, essentially just adapting the full manga without any filler as the manga is now well finished (though trust and betrayal is perfect as it is)

although, chances of this happening are actually pretty low because of controversy with the mangaka

I usually don't fuss over art and production value, but in the case Trigun, it could have really used some more budget. So a remake by the same staff would be great. Also, I wouldn't mind a "Trigun: Brotherhood" either, which would be more faithful to the manga.

One Piece with better pacing is what I want. Maybe then I can actually watch it without screaming at the people on the screen to get the fuck on with it. And better art would be a bonus too. The new character designs after the timeskip look hideous.

There are several anime I have in mind that I would like a Brotherhood-like remake:
Akame ga Kill
Soul Eater
Ouran High School Host Club - in fact, out of all the anime I have seen, this is the only one with no other anime stuff other than the tv series. In other words, no OVA's, specials, movies or 2nd seasons. There was a drama of it but that's different.
Bleach - I guess

If it wasn't for the announcement of a remake, I would've put Fruits Basket here. Thankfully that's getting an actual remake.
Even though the entirety of it's anime adaptation was already great, I still would've love it if Baccano gets a remake that follows the LN's more closely with more episodes (probably around 24+ episodes). However, I am a bit concerned on how they can handle the large cast and the storyline (chances are, it might be worse than the adaptation we have now).

Unikkatil said:

Three things I have to say about this:
1. I think the East Blue, and soon the Skypeia Arcs are adapted into movies with newer animation.
2. How tf can they manage to adapt 90+ volumes into 850+ episodes all over again?
3. It's Eiichiro Oda's own style.

An interesting choice. Firstly, Princess Tutu is already too good to have its own remake. Other than the animation (which is pretty outdated in today's standards), everything in that anime still holds up after 16+ years. Then again, I still would love to see a remake of Tutu (just with updated animation), but I know that it may not be as good as the original, just like Hollywood remakes.

Mmh... is this really a good idea? Last time I watched a TV show being remade, it was the Shin Eva theatrical movies. And... I could have live without them.
(the manga remake of Gundam is great though, I admit)

Of the big shounens, Bleach has some of the best fight scenes. It'd be great to get an animation overhaul as well at some point.

Cyborg 009. I'm not talking about that pure-CG shite the films keep piling on, either - give us some actual, hand-drawn animation like what Cyborg 009 VS Devilman had, studios!

I've also been thinking lately, how amazing would The Big O look if it was remade using modern techniques and technology - especially the mecha? It might risk losing some of its retro noir charm without doing something akin to Megalo Box's downscaling (hopefully not), but after SSSS.Gridman I'm convinced even if CG was involved a Big O remake would look bloody amazing.

Oh, and Claymore could absolutely use a remake, now that the manga is actually long-complete and the anime can't get ahead of it and be forced to make its own bonkers ending. (EDIT: Ayy, I'm actually not alone! o/)

Well most of the obvious ones that I can name have already been posted (Tokyo Ghoul, Akame ga Kill, Bleach, etc)
So here's a less obvious one - Itou Junji: Collection
When it comes to horror manga, Junji Ito is probably the best and most well known author/writer. But this anime adaption of his work is just horrible. From animation to direction, everything is just painful to watch.
If a good adaption of his work is done, then it can easily be one of the best horror animes.
