The official website for Production I.G has announced more information to the previously announced new anime adaptation to Ghost in the Shell franchise co-directed by Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex series) and Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed Saga Ex Machina). Titled Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, Production I.G and Sola Digital Arts will be producing the anime together in full 3DCG, and will be streamed via Netflix in 2020 worldwide except mainland China. More information will also be revealed via the second and third 2019 combined issue of Weekly Shounen Young Magazine released on December 10.

'...Titled Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045-
Omfg, so it's gonna be a stand alone complex sequel!? :0

'-it will be a full 3DCG version streamed via Netflix on 2020'
Ugh. Okay here's where my enthusiasm dwindles a bit... hopefully the CGI isn't over the top, but if it's truly full stop 3d then it might end up really ugly. Which hurts me because I'll stick around and watch it anyway, what with Kenji Kamiyama's return and all.

But that Netflix streaming part really is u g h to the max. I'm not willing to wait up to 24 weeks to just binge a show. I want weekly releases. :(

Looks autistic junky wasted on a disjointed cash-grab faggotry display by a schizophrenic shitty director.

This looks like a good entry for me to the animation. I've watched the Western movie and it felt too fastpaced at a constant rate I couldn't take my time to feel anything, but it's still nice.

Reminds me of the thread 3D to replace 2D. I've researched a little bit further after that thread so I hope they do it limited frames, make it like the latest Guilty Gear for using 3D like 2D - it's great.

This perfectly describes the way I feel about it being full 3D CGI and a Netflix exclusive.

Cel shading in CGI is tricky and anime has a hard time making this work (even from Polygon themselves), especially when it comes to use of motion capture, but it looks better off in anime these days than it did just ten years ago. I have faith the CGI will be smooth as silk because it's done by the same folks behind Appleseed Alpha and the Starship Troopers movies, all of which were fucking fantastic visually. I'd have preferred Digital Frontier, but I think Sola has a lot of the same people, and they're far from being the worst. Production I.G. has also been handling CGI better than most other studios, so this collab is promising.

The new Ultraman is like the precursor to this, so use that as testing grounds for what to expect with the new SAC.

The 3dcgi gives me Houseki no Kuni vibes but still this is huge questionable decision. On the other hand good thing that they will have the same director and from original TV show and possibly continuation from where 2nd gig ends so thats great.

God I love Ghost in the Shell but the full 3D is making me uncomfortable, I won't hold my breath for this but I will hope for the best.

Netflix exclusive isn't worrying since it's worldwide. All episodes will come out at the same time everywhere. Just like Devilman Crybaby.

But the CG announcement is underwhelming, but having the same director is a bit reassuring.

This case is a bit different because it's part of the SAC series and Kamiyama is working on it.

This doesn't negate what he wrote. Series or director's names have always been used as promotional tools. Sometimes, it can be used as a disguise/decoy by creators to justify making something that would be hard to sell (to producers/audience) otherwise, often it will simply be a producers excuse to sell yet another product (with a pretty limited actual interest) to the audience.

Sola DIgital Arts were the same guys that made the new Appleseed, it did look good but I like 2D more. If it flops I can always pretend it doesn't exist.

The fact that Kamiyama is part of it at least gives me hope. Could it be just a cash grab? Sure. Am I gonna watch it anyway? Hell yeah I am. I loved SAC, and felt very underwhelmed with Arise.

It doesn't matter to me whether it's all CG, or even if the ulterior motives are shady. I'm gonna let it's writing speak for itself, and we haven't witnessed the writing just yet. If it ends up being irredeemable garbage and has absolutely nothing going for it and is merely just there to sell merchandise then I'll absolutely take part in taking up arms against it. Kamiyama did a great job with SAC though, so I'm giving this the benefit of the doubt.

I remember Ilya Kuvshinov saying that he/she started drawing Art because how he/she was inspired by the 1996 GITS. So it wouldn't surprise me in the least, if Ilya Kuvshinov is part of the Art team considering the fact that he/she is working in Japan as an illustrator.

damn netflix is killing all the cult classic anime: death note, cowboy bebop and now this. as a huge SAC fan I ain't gonna watch and support this, specially with the whole unnecessary "full 3DCG". if anything i'll go back and re-watch both seasons of the original SAC show

It being CG has me worried, but who knows, maybe it will look good. I really hope it does.
I have high hopes when it comes to story and writing since Kenji Kamiyama is at the helm.

But why are people mad it's a Netflix exclusive? It's not like Netflix is responsible for how well written or how good-looking a show will be. Or maybe it is and I don't know.

Netflix is only responsible for streaming only lol. If the series is bad, is fault of the staff involved.

Netflix only have the exclusive rights of streaming, so... they don't have nothing to do with the production, like every "Netflix original", or rather Netflix exclusive.

It was decent for it's time. Most people hating on it are bandwagoners who think they know what bad CGI is when they've never seen it. I'm sure this will at least be above Tesagure Bukatsumono grade and I actually liked that show.

We might see CGI akin to that in Starship Troopers: Invasion; which was also directed by Aramaki.

Yeah, I know that. That's why I asked why people automatically assume it will be shit if it's Netflix exclusive when Netflix is only responsible for streaming.

An exclusive streaming deal means Netflix paid out. I'd wager some of that money eventually filters down into the production budget.

Still Netflix doesn't do nothing with the production, paying for exclusive doesn't mean nothing... We would say the same with Amazon paying for exclusivity, or Crunchyroll.

The money has do nothing with the quality of an anime, what actually matter is the staff.
