Because there's already Kamen Rider for that.

Even though it's live action and they don't wear frilly clothing.

Because for me it looks weird, also we are accustomed to see it with girls and at the same time the magic is associated with girls and costumes or say :v

Sad taste you have there kid you came up to me in the first place making you look more like a kid who got slapped without me even knowing it and start crying about it to me

Sailor Moon had male sailors in the final season who, regrettably, turn into cross dressers when they transform.

Cardcaptor Sakura has a straight magic system rather than a defined mahou shoujo concept (that operates— they’re well aware of the “fictional” tropes). Sakura’s powers are descended from a man, Clow Reed, and her rival in the series is a boy who practices a different but related type of magic to her own.

Shugo Chara! has males as part of the core cast, and they have abilities just like the girls.

Although he isn’t a “chosen one” due to the rules of the setting, the girls’ mentor and the one who gave them magic in Magic Knight Rayearth is a male. He really shows just how strong he is in the second season, too.

It’s a thing even in the core of the genre. Having the gender ratio skewed more toward males is generally reserved for parody, though.

I mean a fair number of magical girl shows have boys who can also use magic, and there's a couple shows with all male cast like the ones already listed.

But if you're asking why Mahou Shounen isn't an established genre then the answer is there isn't enough shows that would fit into it and it tends to be used for parody if anything. (Or genderbent cases where the characters are male but turn into magical girls is another common variation).

On a more serious note, I feel like something like sentai would be the male equivalent of mahou shoujo.

2. Probably because gender roles make it so that people don't usually think of boys needing to look cute. 'Tis unfortunate, really.

if you want young boys in frilly clothes, just watch 'Shounen Maid'. If you want young boys that do magic, watch Black Clover. If you want both, idk I guess alternate watching episodes between those two shows.

or just like follow several people's suggestions above and watch the Cute High Earth Defense Club (https://myanimelist.net/anime/27727/Binan_Koukou_Chikyuu_Boueibu_LOVE )
^^it has (3) seasons and a movie.

Who will that appeal to exactly? Girls who like feminine guys, maybe? I'd think that's a pretty small number of people. Most "male Mahou Shoujo" are only really utilised as a comedy element.

If it's males fighting, there is definitely a larger audience who find more appeal in having them being full on masculine than wearing frilly skirts.
I'm not a lolicon, you're just projecting your tendency to lewd 2D characters.

You mean Mahou Shoujo Ore
It's about girls signing a contract to be a so-called "magical girl", only their transformation turns them into buff guys and instead of magic they mostly use physical violence to make their way through crowds of enemies and save whoever makes their "love power" go up.

They are called battle shounens and sports animes...so it's a thing.

Yes, I am joking but there are titles like Mahou Sensei Negima and Full Metal Alchemist.

Umm... It IS mahou shoujo.. if it's a boy, then it should be mahou shounen, or maybe mahou shota.. lol XD
Joke aside, there's binan chou (or something) for that, it's kind of a thing. There's also mahou should ore, it IS the perfect example of manly mahou shoujo... XD
There's not much of it yet since it's not that popular of a genre..

You answered your own question, it's in the name. It's a genre for female leads, but that doesn't mean magical boys WITHIN these titles don't exist. Transformation sequences or not, they're there. Otherwise, magical boys would just be put into fantasy or superpower tbh.

TripleSRank said:

The Sailor Starlights were always female. The cross dressing was for their civilian disguises.
