Agreed. I've seen this series on so many "Top (#) Lists" that it's about time I get to watching it.

Is that amount good enough for Hero Academia?
Shirobako is AOTY 2015. Deal with it.

3000 and above average disc sales is considered a success https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2015-05-27/anime-studios-success-calculated-based-on-10-years-of-disc-sales/.88558

but i would not worry about the low sales considering disc sales for anime is declining for years since fans even in japan are starting to pay more for legal streaming sites like Netflix and CrunchyRoll

Those happy sugar life and Hanebado sales hurt me. I can understand happy sugar life, but hanebado? Japan truly has an awful taste.
Help the industry and buy Blu-rays and DVD's.
Noragami is the best anime ever.

The Hanebado sales kinda hurt.

Sure sales don't matter at the end of the day since, but regardless the sales do hurt a lot.

I do understand maybe for the drama not being the best out there but it's still a fun series to watch despite that.

This list makes no sense. Not all anime is created to sell discs, so giving the same threshold to all of them is an absurd idea. And studios produce anime at different rates, which would affect this list. KyoAni and ufotable only make one or two anime each year, while the likes of A-1 Pictures, Madhouse and Deen can make several each season. Finally, studios don't receive the money their anime makes unless they are in the production committee, so why should this list even matter?

even if an anime studio is not part of the production committee it does not mean they cannot get share of the profit

What about the studios? said:
But how do they make their money? This is where things get tricky. Studios like Madhouse will split the Blu-ray and DVD profits with the distributor who is on the committee (like Pony Canyon). They may split profits with merchandisers too, if a PVC figure uses the anime design created by Madhouse. The amount of profit is low, which is why studios try to save money by hiring freelancers and working on multiple series a season.

so quick math says 3000 discs times 12 episode is 36000 multiplied by lets say 80 dollars per disc then its almost 3 million dollars total profit and 12 episodes (1 cour) anime cost around 2 millions dollars according to sources - https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2015-08-13/anime-insiders-share-how-much-producing-a-season-costs/.91536 so they profited like 1 million dollars from disc sales alone and the anime studio will have a share of that money

I agree about Hanebado. Of course, this is not the second Haikyuu or Free, but at least it was a good melodrama with an unusual MC.

14. *,251 **6,051 Emiya-san Chi no Kyou no Gohan Vol.2 Limited Edition
16. *,238 **2,610 Fate/Extra: Last Encore Vol.2 Limited Edition

And so, Extra was rated so low that even Shiro's foodporn sold 2 times better than it?

BnHA is an audience anime so it doesn't depend on sales.

They rely on the ratings than the sales so it wouldn't matter much in this instance.

First he didn't say they split the money in equal parts (it would be a problem if they did because those 3 million would become only 1.5 million). Second, "The amount of profit is low". That's on the link you showed me. And the other link has "Shinji Takamatsu, a veteran animator, cited a figure of 150 to 200 million yen ($1.2 to $1.6 million). "Expecting to make that up through disc sales alone is a hopeless business model, but that's how almost all late night anime are," he writes."

My point still stands: discs sales alone don't tell all the truth for all anime out there, most studios make enough money to survive in the industry but most of the actual profit goes to the producers (barring a few exceptions also mentioned by GoBoiano) and that list is seriously misleading

of course they did not split the profit from disc sales equally

im just pointing out to you that even if an anime studio is not part of the production committee then they can still make a profit from disc sales

and i know fully well that disc sales is not the only profit source for anime studios thats why i linked that goboiano article in the first place
