| I bet you're the first one to notice this, OP. OT: it's just a trope nowadays, kind of like the touring episode or the excursion episode with curry cooking. But while the latter two give you space for relationship development, the beach episode gives space for fanservice. Why wouldn't you include such an episode. |

Check anime stat: 56days....no captain obvious, you are not the only one who notice it...while you are at it, you can also add, Christmas, valentine, onsen, amusement park, new year celebration, and school festival... But set that aside, It doesn't take rocket science to explain "why" so many anime had it... beach episode allow girl to wear skimpy swimsuit...and thats the easiest way to set up fanservice... |

And nope you are wrong about that...if i could recall, Clannad and Madoka doesnt have it...there are probably handful of other that doesnt do swimsuit eps as well.. |
| Nah, it's by far not "every anime". It depends on the genre. If it's shounen or harem or ecchi, or all three, yes, you'll get a swimsuit/beach episode. But if it's a shoujo, josei, seinen or any anime that focuses more on the story than fanservice, you won't get the beach/swimsuit episode. From my favorite anime on my profile, only Gintama has a swimming pool episode, but in a later season. And frankly, they focus more on the male fanservice lol. |

| You might want to take a closer look. In most cases you'll realize that the animation quality is plummeting for that episode. Pretty much half of it is just panning shots. It's a mid-cour money saver. The creators hope we don't notice if they put a truckload of juicy tits in. As far as production tactics go, I can fap to that. |

| Because of 3 things: 1. Fanservice, because seeing a handsome character in swimwear is pretty sexy rite? 2. To cool off a bit. Most of the time, beach/any swimsuit related episodes are filler to help us calm down after big things have happened and to help the animators take it easy (beach eps are not that well animated most of the time). 3. Because we as people also go swimming from time to time and letting characters come over more humanly. |

| Being used to swimsuit/beach episodes, its always fun to guess when said episodes is going to happen. Usually these episodes are shown in middle or late in series, but seems like lately studios compete with each other, who airs those earliest. Maybe to try catch more viewers early on airing? |

| Swimsuit episode is that frequent in anime that it's not rare to see anime parodies swimsuit episode. Like in Girlish Number for example when the characters clearly say that's it's for fanservice purpose. |
| There's an unspoken rule within the current gen anime which within ep7~9, there has to be a fan-service episode if it's a school or slice of life anime. Well, don't ask me why Japan does that... My guess is to bump up the BD sales . |
