A stage presentation for the Yuu☆Yuu☆Hakusho franchise at the Jump Festa 2018 revealed on Saturday that it will receive a new anime special, which will be bundled with the 25th anniversary Blu-ray box set.

Drawn by Yoshihiro Togashi, Yuu☆Yuu☆Hakusho ran in Shueisha's Weekly Shounen Jump magazine from December 1990 to July 1994, and compiled into 19 volumes. The series won the 39th Shogakukan Manga Award for best shounen manga in 1993. The manga inspired a 112-episode anime adaptation by Studio Pierrot, two movies in 1993 and 1994, as well as several OVAs.

Viz Media published the manga in English between 2003 and 2010. Funimation licensed the anime series for North American distribution and released it in 32 DVD discs, before compiling them into four season box sets between July 2008 and January 2009.

HxH wannabe? Moron!
1. Yu Yu Hakusho came first!
2. They are made by the same person.
3. Where the hell were you back in the days of Toonami and Adult Swim?

Yuu Yuu Hakusho was astonishingly boring and repetitive.

Still will check this out to see what it's all about, no high hopes.

I am glad this wasn't actually remake... the original show was well made and irreplaceable. I guess this canl be perhaps another 5 minute special episode just like 2009 release.

Honestly, I could see this happening. 2018 is the ultimate year for surprise sequels and specials. If the put as much heart and effort into it as the HxH reboot, it would be a great move.

I read the manga and thought it was quite boring and couldn't get through it fast enough to be done with it. It had funny parts on occasion, but I really don't see the hype for this series.

Thanks to the anime that I got to know Megumi Ogata (Kurama ❤), one of the few favorite female seiyuu.

I read the people's Tweets that conditions of some seiyuus are not suitable for voicing for the new ep., but mostly hoping they would reprise.

The cast also met up again this Summer, didn't realize it was for this.

You seriously want the studio who made Tokyo Ghoul Root A to make a remastered series for this? I hope you're joking. Nothing is worse than a low-budget remake.

First of all, Yuu Yuu Hakusho doesn't need a remake because the original series is already better than majority of long running series and holds up well to this day. A remake by Madhouse would be a terrible idea because there's no way they could do a better job than Noriyuki Abe, Atsushi Wakabayashi and Akiyuki Shinbo. Second, Pierrot has already done a successful reboot of another old series called Osomatsu-san.

Modernize animation? Did you even read it what I said? The original series already looks better than most long running shows like Madhouse's HxH.

Heck, what makes you think the current Madhouse where they've lost most of their good staff can do a better job than the likes of Noriyuki Abe, Atsushi Wakabayashi and Akiyuki Shinbo?
