*7. *8,151 **8,151 Rokujouma no Shinryakusha!? Vol.27

Need to continue reading this. I left it at vol24 I think.

10. *6,243 **8,404 Isekai Nonbiri Nouka Vol.1

Volume 1? I thought for sure the LN is the original. The manga came out first it seems according to the start dates in the MAL pages. Just thought it was weird since I was reading the manga. I assume this is a web novel as is always for any isekai stories so I was surprised that the manga came out first, and only weeks before the LN.

After three year long following the translation soon it will finally catch up with the Japanese release. The best three year of my LN experience.
Kickstarter for Rokujouma is fully funded. Good work everyone. Lets wait for the result of our hard work together.

no no no

it is the trend already... lot of isekai and gaming and fantasy LN stuff already has cooking sub theme... people just oftenly overlooked it... japan obsession on gourmet series is almost insane!

^yeah I think cooking subtheme is fairly common, especially for Isekai types of stories. There's several Isekai with cooking as their main theme that I can think of, too.

Whew. One Piece have novels too now? You know that they will always be #1 lol.

*7. *8,151 **8,151 Rokujouma no Shinryakusha!? Vol.27

Oh wow, 27 volumes? I'm surprised it's still going with the number it's selling. Is it better sold online or something? I should probably start reading it where the anime left off.

17. *5,207 **5,719 Flower Knight Girl Vol.7

This has a novel? What the fuck. I mean, yeah there's the online game, but a novel? 7 volumes of it?

18. *5,055 *46,462 Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata Vol.13

I've never actually follow this anime or light novel, but I've seen it being talked a lot and quite popular as I've seen them in conventions. So I'm surprised it doesn't hit 100k or something like KonoSuba or 70k like Re:Zero.

issekai still pretty "normal", you had 2 MMORPG playing sci-fi series (so, not SAO-ish, but more like the kings avatar) series that main character power is Overpowered chef skill!

One Piece has a lot of light novel volumes.
The last one didn't make the top 5 LNs in the week it came out.
The last time this one would have topped the rankings was w/c 28th August.

*7. *8,151 **8,151 Rokujouma no Shinryakusha!? Vol.27

It's one of the longer ongoing light novel series. I'm not sure what led you to the conclusion that it sells better online though?

If you're going to read it I advise going from the start. The anime skims over some volumes.

17. *5,207 **5,719 Flower Knight Girl Vol.7

This has a novel? What the fuck. I mean, yeah there's the online game, but a novel? 7 volumes of it?

Novels as part of a game's broader franchise are quite common - and happen elsewhere in the world as well. This series is published under Famitsu Bunko's "Special Series" sub-label which is specifically for things like this. It's also where various KanColle novels were published, for instance.

Oh I didn't know about One Piece's. I might miss some weeks where it came out.

As for my surprise on the Rokujouma's longevity, I've always thought that manga/light novel has a certain floor for the number of sales it needs to keep up before getting canceled. Or is that actually a good number for light novel that has lasted for 20+ volumes?

It's been quite a while since the last One Piece novel.

And yes, if a series sells badly it will either be cancelled or the author won't feel it's worth the effort to keep it going anywhere near this long and thus bring it to an end. The level at which it gets dropped varies from label to label, though, and Rokujouma is one of HJ Bunko's best sellers - why would they drop something like that? However, I doubt even the most cancel-happy labels would drop a series that sells even half what Rokujouma does.

The things that get dropped are things that never get anywhere near the rankings to begin with.

Oh thanks for that info! I didn't know that. I always assumed that new released books go into ranking since it's such a short list (like half of the manga ranking sales), so I never thought that there's a series where they're low enough that they don't get into rankings.

Rokujouma is one of HJ Bunko flagship title and Yurika is even chosen as their poster girl for the magazine 10 year anniversary.

There were 66 new volumes released during the week covered in this thread*, which is probably slightly above average but far from abnormal. The number of them that got on the rankings, however, is notably higher than usual this week.

The rankings above are actually a fusion of 4 different rankings published by Oricon:
- The top 20 light novel volumes (most or sometimes all of these will also be on one of the other rankings)
- The light novels in the top 50 bunko format books
- The light novels in the top 50 non-bunko format books
- The light novels in the top 20 "literature" books, some of which will again also be on one of the other rankings. This one always has the lowest threshold of the four, but a lot of light novels don't count for this ranking.
As you can see, these are all very much "top" rankings, and new stuff don't get any sort of special treatment. There would have been thousands of different light novel volumes getting sales over the course of this week.

Incidentally, to answer the other half of your earlier question - the reason why you sometimes see manga series getting dropped despite having high sales is because some manga publishers are more concerned with magazine sales than with tankobon sales, and thus will drop series that are deemed to not generate much demand for the magazine, even if they get a lot of tankobon sales. This obviously doesn't apply to light novels. They also have a limited amount of space in the magazines that can be used for manga serialisations, so if they get too many series then something has to go, even if that something is bringing in plenty of money. The closest to an equivalent restriction for light novel publishers is the number of releases their staff can process - but if necessary they could rectify this problem relatively easily by simply hiring more staff. As a result series can continue to be published at much lower sales figures.

And yes, manga sell more than any other format of fiction in Japan.

*This includes some things listed above that appear to be on their second week due to having been released early by some retailers, but not the Poplar Bunko Pureful volume which technically isn't a light novel and wouldn't have been listed on this thread even if it had sold half a million copies.
There is no such thing as shit taste. Only idiots who think everyone should have the same taste as they do.
