Go read the manga. The anime is garbage compared to it. Also...to answer your question..
The last order from Yoshimura to Yomo was to make sure Touka and others are safe.
The suit case thing...we don't really know if Kaneki is dead or not but what do you think? You did see Arima fight against the One Eyed Owl.
Go read the manga.

After the score of this season I thought it'd be way worse than it turned out to be. First half was boring as HELL, no action, nothing interesting happening, just some boring angst. But after 7th ep or so, it got awesome again :D So I can forgive its previous sins.

Definitely not a masterpiece level, but I teared up a bit during scene with Kaneki's walk (beautiful piano version of Unravel!), so just for that 8/10.

I'm totally buying manga version in the future!

Btw!
Tokyo Ghoul manga fans are some of the worst I've seen though. This forum is FULL of spoilers which people didn't even bother to hide :/ I've been reading though plenty of anime's subforums, but that's the worst I've seen here on MAL. Shame on you guys! Hope you get spoiled in the future as well :<

I really don't get the ending, when Kaneki is walking toward the CCG with hide, I hear a suit case opening. Did Kaneki get captured, did he get killed. Also what was the last job that Yoshimura had to do. This ending had so many loose ends that I couldn't list them all! I am so confused could you guys help me out?

Given how much crap I've heard about this series, specifically the second season, I expected something laughably bloody. The first episode of season one seemed to imply this, as we were immediately introduced to strong dosage of gore, darkness, sexuality, violence, and all that. Then we had lots of tears and saliva mixed in with horrified faces smashed into the camera. Then the breakneck pacing. Then Tsukiyama was a thing. Then some torture porn, which was also a thing. That culminating to a cliffhanger ending probably would have got me rolling my eyes had I watched Tokyo Ghoul while it was airing. Not out of disrespect to the show mind you, but out of exasperation.

Then the infamous season two. Um...It wasn't bad? Granted, the fights saw a downgrade in quality, but seeing as I never minded them to begin with, they neither added nor subtracted from my experience. Additionally, while the censorship was obtrusive and arguably worse with more mosaics, I can't say I had any desires to see blood and guts. As a result, what was left was a slower anime paced out with fights that felt glossed over and more time spent on the characters. And I was fine with that.

The last part of the episode was an example of this. I appreciated the long periods of silence spent just reflecting on past events. I enjoyed that long walk which had a lot of atmosphere to it. While I couldn't see Kaneki's final fate, I was, at that point, more concerned about the side and minor characters. Thinking that over, I'm unsure if that was the intention. There were a lot of lingering questions, skipped over scenes, implied "maybe" deaths, and what I assume to be cut information, but I dunno. Their omissions didn't bother as much as it should have, oddly enough.

Without a doubt though, this season felt directionless and disjointed. I completely lost track of the original goals of the characters. I didn't know what they were fighting for, and I recall various characters bringing that up as well, signaling their awareness of their own futile actions. Heck, at some point the show was throwing out names of people and organizations so much that I kept forgetting who was trying to kill who, for what reason, and if they deserved it. Because of this, I just went along with the ride, enjoying the pleasant passing moments that simply added to the characters, rather than the overarching plot. Also, unless I missed something, that second Owl showed up out of nowhere, followed by Aogiri also showing up. Were there after credit scenes that I missed? Then the scene with Hide where Kaneki started crying normal tears and bloody tears, which was worth a headtilt. Then Anteiku went up in flames for reasons. I'm sure I missed a lot, and I think I was better for it. If I nitpicked all day, I probably wouldn't see the end of it. Regardless, by the end, no one gained anything, so I'd question the point of the whole conflict.

At the very least though, I was fine with the ending. I recognized the nod to the manga at the end, but that's for another day. I recognize that this adaptation wasn't the...best out there, but by only being familiar with the anime, I'm glad that I was able to enjoy it as much as I did. It felt like it could have been a lot worse.

Or I dunno, maybe it's because I'm not part of the target audience of this show, so I expected, noticed, and accepted different things. For what it's worth, I enjoyed this season unironically, and probably for the wrong reasons. It's mysterious how anime can appeal to different walks of life in unintended ways.

Half the episode was Kaneki walking lol.
I liked the second season, but it bugs me knowing that they changed so much. Time to read the manga.
Hope they do a S3 someday.

Fights were finally over, it helped to have some nice scenes: after the cute Jûzo sequence, this time there was the Kaneki/Hide-something one. The last pictures could have been better accompanied than with the insertion of this ugly opening song from the first series.
4/5 theoretically, lowered to 3/5 because this is nothing like an end.

Overall:3/10 and 4/10 to the first series (rated it 5 at first)
It felt terribly pointless. A bloody slice-of-life with no skeleton but a lot of elements dropped in a vomit all series long without ever being exploited.

Kinda sucks that there's no news about a season three as of yet. There were SO many loose ends and a few plot holes that need to be addressed like: how did Hide get injured when rescuing Kaneki offscreen, where were Nashuro and Kurona during the big battle, and what will happen now that Eto has showed herself and that she is another one eyed owl? Sure, I'm aware that this season in particular stayed too heavily from the manga, even more so than season one did, but still, we are in desperate need of answers, and if they ever come, chances are it won't be like the manga.
Then again, they might just be waiting until they have the budget to do a proper season three. After all, the budget problems in season two were pretty noticeable, and got distracting at points, even in some of the fight scenes.

It was a great and at the same time really sad scene with Kaneki holding Hide in his arms together with Unravel playing in the background. I would like to see a season 3 because of some unanswered questions which are bothering me.

So dramatic.. Enjoyed the so n so, but could use a season 3.. dont feel it just the end yet..
Also LOVE that they played the OP song from season 1 at the end. Unravel!!
So sad moment with Hide n Kaneki, kinda expected he would be injured.. almost dead...sucks tho..
Feel i wanna read the manga as well to see wha happens next---

Gotta say i have been really loving the animation, the sound (except the OP) the fighting, the story, kinda left a few cliffhanger.. can wait.. but still
enjoyed it more than i though tbh. give a 9.2/10
cause MAL is doing there job for once.

Well, well, well...

I expected this second season to be utter shit because of its reputation. Welp, it was pretty fucking awesome overall.

I'm guessing the salt is coming from dorks who hate on anything popular or people disappointed by the adaptation. I can see the reasoning of the latter group of people. The others are just dorks.

Also, lol @ complaining about the end... 'Oh they are forcing us to read the manga!! derp!!'..

Well, guess what they are very real people working on your favorite anime out there. That crucial bit of info might have slipped the mind of those who live in fantasy land. They want you to read the manga, huh? That's the very point of basically every anime ever. Crazy I know.

Anyways. /rant

Pretty awesome season overall. That's the very last time I listen to people's opinions on MAL.

Kaneki walking with Hide's body was done beautifully T_T

Honestly not sure what to think of this season, in ways it was way better than the first season but then non of the plot points were connected, there was hardly any development in the story.

I should probably get around to reading the manga some time..

Damn, so many open questions...
And definitely no romance (happy ends) :D

For a possible third season all possibilities were open. Not even Kaneki's last (?) Fight is shown.
Above all, I would also be interested in what was Yomos last order (what exactly has he done). Has he also lit the Antik or even attacked Hide?

I finally found the season quite good (8/10).

Maybe the first time I start reading a manga ...

what happened to ken. what happened ?
and then i checked the manga. the first season of the manga. and actually, i found out that they changed it in the anime. i just....it just made me say what the fuck seriously. it is still bugging me. what happened to ken. i know im so very very late but at least, can someone tell me where should i start reading the manga. from where they changed it at least.

tbh, the ending was really good and intense in my opinion, but fuck that ending at the same time.

no sight of amon, kaneki killed offscreen and just end it there made it all worse. maybe the manga is better but this was just teribble

The last episode was AMAZING. As soon as Kaneki was holding the body in his arms I burst into tears and knew exactly who it was. What made it more emotional was that they played the first opening (unravel) to end the season. In MY opinion I liked season 2 better then the first one because they showed other characters than Kaneki. I feel like even if Kaneki was the main character he wasn't really the 'main charcter'. Even if the 'bad guys' were mean and killed the ghouls I still shed a tear when they died. HUGE CREDIT TO Sui Ishida. Thank you for making another awesome season and another amazing anime.

Just re-watched this... the sequence of Kaneki + Hide still brought me to tears.
I re-watch this to verify someone theory that Hide is not dead and I think they are right.

Kaneki sacrificed himself to CCG in exchange for Hide's life. During that walking sequence, Kaneki look at Hide 3 times if you pay attention. He smiled in the last one just before he stopped. I think he made sure Hide is still breathing during those 3 times.
Inside anteiku, when Hide collapsed in a pool of blood, he thought Hide is dead, but when the tears got into Hide, Hide is smiling and Kaneki saw that. He realized Hide is still alive and can be saved with immediate medical attention. Then he smiled and said let's go home. I think that's when he decided to give himself in to CCG and save Hide's life.

Gonna read the manga from the beginning now.

I stayed away from this show because so many people were saying not to watch it, and overall it was getting a lot of hate. I recently came back and decided to watch both season 1 and 2, and I guess I enjoyed it. It wasn't as bad as people made it out to be and I preferred root a to season 1.

This was sad and depressing.

So Shinohara survived be is unconscious and in poor condition.

I've wondered who that person Kaneki was holding in the promotional image. It turned out to be Hide.

Ayato saving Touka was nice. He truly does care.

That ending is pretty much forcing anime only viewers to read the manga.

Not really big on unclear endings... better than a huge ass cliffhanger though.

I found it weird watching Kaneki walk for like 5 minutes while we got to listen to the full version of Unravel.

So, was like Kaneki just carrying Hide to kinda request/hope that the CCG would take care of him? (Proper Burial)

What really threw me off though was Touka not really doing anything. What was the point of her running all the way to the Coffee Shop/the scene if she wasn't gonna do anything? I thought she might've jumped in the battle and also I was thinking she was going to run into Kaneki but she didn't see him until near the end when he was walking off and they didn't get to interact after all that. =/

The hell was with that ending?! I mean, the first part was basically fine, but then the coffee shop mysteriously exploded into flames, and Kaneki just walked around with Hide's corpse, and then he smiles at Arima, and then practically all the named characters are dead, and Arima's just standing there looking at a sword planted in the ground, and what the hell was up with the One-Eye Owl turning into a woman at the end of the last episode?

Guh, too many questions for an ending!

Of course Hide always knew Kaneki was the Eye Patch, but Kaneki didn’t realise he knew, awww.

Hide collapsed in Kaneki’s arms because he also suffered a bad wound in the battle field!!! Oh no! I says on Wikipedia he died, but did he really? although I suppose that would explain Kaneki covering him up initially. Hmmm ...

But I thought he was trying to take him to the CCG hoping they could help him so he wouldn’t die.

Poor Touka found out Anteiku was burning down, but Kaneki and Hide were still inside and came out but she got told not to follow him for her own protection by Yomo fulfilling his last promise to Yoshimura, awww.

Kaneki taking the body and crying in the snow to the CCG with Arima waiting was a sad scene to bear witness to.

I think maybe a better end would have been just hearing his footsteps and the screen fading to black before seeing Arima though.

Touka post credits had opened up her own new cafe it seems, for next season I guess which will hopefully be soon and she looked older and different. Better I think.

I can’t wait to see next season and see what happens! <3

I loved both seasons a lot <3

Excuse me? Did I miss some important EP or is this really the ending? So many unresolved questions and they decided to waste it on walking. This is offensive. The begininig of the Ep with hallucinations and small-talk with Hide was enough. What the hell happened with everybody else? It is better to show some cartboard character with overused design and no development at all? Damn Arima was totally useless in this anime, what a wase.

This season was stupid beyond redemption. First EP was not bad but then...
-They used some CCG gas when the ghoul prison was attacked. Why did not they use it during Anteiku raid?
-Why the hell they started facing owl without this Arima guy? This is the biggest stupidity I have seen in this anime.
-Where the hell is this ugly prisoner that fought Ken? He was never mentioned again, not even by his name? He was strong enough to push Ken through fucking walls. He should destroy his clink and go home. WTF!
-Why, just why, one button is enough to open all the ghoul`s clinks? And I won`t even start about why they decided to leave ghouls with their powers?
-Did they really imply that there was no objection against including Juuzou in a strict military unit? Because Shinohara said so? AFAIR he was not the boss of the organisation.
-Arata was quite a nice weapon and big improvement, should not Amon get one? Would be smart.
-All this build-up to Kaneki`s craziness and madness, but nothing happened? Eto said something like "almost there". Then nothing happened.
-All the missing plot points like twins, Amon, CCG after Raid and so on.

This episode is 1/10. It is insulting to the viewer.
Shit season, the only good parts were EP 1,9,10,11. Worst were parts in the Cochlea - absolutely insulting.

There are so many unanswered questions still.... Is it worth it to read the Manga (my instinct says yes) to find out 1. Who the heck are the Aogiri? Are they just some terrorist group or do they have an actual purpose? 2. Who are the people turning humans into ghouls? And why? (Kaneki, the twins) 3. Who the neck is Arima and how did he get so strong? 4. How did Kaneki die? What was the point of him getting stronger if he wasn't even able to protect his friends? So many more other questions.
