I wouldn't call myself a SAO fan, and it's certainly not the best LN series I've read, but it is a good series. If you're curious, read it for yourself, and go in with a neutral opinion rather than one shaped by haters, or indeed shaped by the anime at all. It's worth pointing out that basically none of the actual criticism (as opposed to the bandwagon "it's cool to hate this series/x famous youtuber didn't like this series" that is the real reasoning behind most of the haters) people put on the anime applies to the novels at all, instead coming predominantly from the fact that the anime throws in side stories that are actually in later volumes of the series or SAO Progressive. Looking through all the top reviews of the anime on this site, this is the direct cause of their first and top complaint every time. |
