 A public recording event for Natsume Yuujinchou franchise held on Sunday titled "Aki no Katarai" ("Fall Chat") has announced that a movie for the series is in production, and will premiere in 2018 to commemorate its 10th anniversary. The movie will be animated by Shuka and main two cast members, Hiroshi Kamiya and Kazuhiko Inoue, will reprise their roles.Drawn by Yuki Midorikawa, Natsume Yuujinchou began its publication via Hakusensha's LaLa DX magazine in 2003, and moved to LaLa magazine in 2008. The series currently has 22 compiled volumes in print, with the latest released on September 5. Brain's Base adapted the manga into a TV anime in Summer 2008 and produced three more seasons before studio Shuka took over the production in Fall 2016 for the fifth and sixth season. | Ngl this isn't really the most optimal series to make films out of. Given how slow it is, watching like 90 mins in one sitting (or however long the film turns out to be) would quite likely get a bit boring. Natsume is made for watching weekly |

| A pleasant surprise, but it'll be interesting to see how they do this considering the way the episodes are usually done: will this be some major arc from the manga (are there many of those?) all in one film, or it will it be some kind of original story that serves as some sort of conclusion? As long as it's not an extended recap, it should be worth watching. |

It has been proven before that this author's work can be well adapted into a movie, as presented in Hotarubi no Mori e. Sure Natsume has a more episodic nature but it's possible if they adapt a longer arc that would usually take 2-3 episodes in TV format. |
