You don't have to be closet about it, like you can wear shirts and merchandise and read manga in public but stop adding more and more stigma. But then on the other hand, I feel like I don't really care that much. If I had to pick, it'd be the above, but those people aren't me, so they don't represent me. |

| One thing that comes to mind are that some parts, or probably most of the community in general, have an assumption that newer= better. And that people like this won't even watch anything pre-2010 because that's 'too old'. Apparently consuming any sort of retro media is bad or they don't understand why you're watching that anime from 1985. I watch both old and new anime so it's something that's always baffled me. Fans who go overboard with the whole waifu culture, I never understood that and if you're into all of that unironically than I don't really know what to tell you, other than that you should look into seeking help. Ecchi 'elitist'; it comes off as ridiculous already, but I've noticed that(on this forum at least) that there are people who are so hardcore into any series that is tagged as ecchi and swear left and right that it is a brilliant show and anyone who scoffs at the notion hates fun things. Anime fans who can't take anything they watch seriously. Like I get if you're watching something really stupid or trashy, but I remember joining in on a simulwatch of Tokyo Godfathers with a teamspeak group I was a part of, and while the film is brilliant and incredibly touching and sentimental, I was getting annoyed about their empty, 'humorous' comments, thinking this is just a joke. I remember reading up on what made that movie so great and I really wanted to discuss the merits of the film and some of the theories surrounding the plot points of it. They criticized trivial things that made sense once you looked into it, or if you understood the message/theme of the film. Instead I get a "dude calm down it's just a movie lol". I don't do simulwatches with many people because of things like that. If you want to watch something retarded and pretend you're a guest host of rifftrax and think you're so witty and humorous, knock yourself out. But if you're watching a serious film with people then have some tact and keep that shit to yourself. Because there might be others that actually genuinely enjoyed the movie and want to share that excitement with others in a genuine way. |

Also, the sexism and double standards, both in anime and among the anime community. Within anime, the sexual dimorphism is just so sickeningly exaggerated, it's cringy. Girls with giant balloon heads with giant eyes, and baby necks, baby shoulders, baby torso, and unnaturally long legs, like an infant's head on a deformed young teen girl's body. Meanwhile the males in the same anime can look realistic and totally mature like 20-something. Ugh and the anime girl voices... if they use the annoying high-pitched falsetto voice on girls, it's an anime I'll likely drop. Meanwhile the voices for males are very rarely that bad, if ever. Mostly anime guys have natural-sounding voices, while girls get stuck with the squealy little girl Minnie Mouse voice. Example for anime communities (which are supposedly unisex)... guys can openly talk about Lolicon, Hentai, Ecchi, Harems, Waifus, Yuri, etc. everywhere they want to and girls rarely butt in to complain or attack them for talking about it... But when girls talk about BL, Yaoi, Shounen-Ai, Bishounen, Otome, Reverse Harem, etc... some guys throw a fit about it being gay or gross or otherwise throwing a fit over the simple mention of a title of any anime that has mostly pretty guys even if it's not ecchi or yaoi. =_= It's pretty normal for fujoshi to be told, "Go kill yourself", and "Die, trash", where fujoshi don't even do this to the male anime fans. Aggressive and violent much? Meanwhile I don't see any women making death threats to men for Keijo!! which is extremely perverted ecchi. Free! isn't ecchi at all yet it somehow was so threatening to enough of the male anime fanboys that they'd resort to violence/threats against female anime fans... Then they somehow wonder why feminism/gender equality is still being fought for today. |
