| So, I'm pretty old, I think, by anime standards. I have a real, actual 10 year old son who casually suggested I try watching something called "Gurren Lagann"... I've never tried to force my love of anime onto my boys (I have 2), but I've never hidden that I watch it either. How excited am I by the prospect that I have a perfect, unspoiled vessel to mold? Well, he may end up liking really different stuff, but its mega cool that we'll have more things to share and talk about in the future, if today's convo is anything to go by. I've seen it already, btw. Liked it. Hope he keeps watching it! But the concerned mother in me is desperately trying to remember if there is anything too scary or "adult" for him to be watching... There's not, right?! |

It's also aimed at kids his age, so there's really nothing to worry about. There's some raunchy humor in the DVD version of the hot springs episode, but the version on Netflix, TV, and most sites is the edited version. |

| I remember watching Elfen Lied when I was 13. I mean on paper it's like something you'd never recommend to a kid. But honestly it didn't really affect me in the grand scheme of things. Although I was deeply suspicious of pink haired anime girls for a while when I watched other anime. Looking back I'm not sure if anime affected my upbringing at all. Hmm. But yeah if I ever have kids they'll start seeing the posters around the house and will probably pick up anime by themselves lol. Can't really tell 'em anything up front tho. Subconscious persuasion, starto. |

| Loving the responses, guys! You young'uns without children, fret not. Your time, should you want that life, will come. Enjoy child free time while you can! But not having them is reasonable, if not far more sane. I'm not sure "cool" is the right word, but it will be interesting. It may be because I'm completely biased, but I'm a generation of parent who can understand gaming and more modern entertainment, so perhaps there'll be a different sort of clash of the generations than ever before? Aforementioned 10 year old is a big Zelda fan because of yours truly, so this may end up that same sort of thing? |

| There's definitely stuff too scary for him to see but it's not like you can control everything he sees. Best you can do is prepare him for it. You should watch Boku no Pico, that will give you a sense of what to expect lol. |

| A very interesting thread. Miss, you have my respect! In my opinion, you should just stick with giving your kids very motivating and and action-oriented anime that'll keep em going such as the aforementioned Gurenn Lagan and Naruto. Just keep them away from ecchi stuffs until after they reach their puberty. |
