Ok I've generated some ideas for playing with data more on GA+. I only did some brain storming on this so some of these ideas might not be that great :)

I'm hoping this might start a little discussion on the current graphs and lists in GA+ as some could be in better formats (for instance I don't think a pie chart is the best format for the "Favorites types" graph). I also think it's odd that the ratings page doesn't have a rating by year graph but that can instead be found on the "Favorites" page.

I also would LOVE to see more flexibility in graph styles. It would be awesome to have Pie/Bar/Line tabs on the pages with graphs and you could view them in any of those of your choosing.

As for new graphs and lists, I tried to think of all the data points we have at our disposal. Please chime in if there's more than I could think up!

The data we have is: Genre, Studios, Year aired/released, our ratings, MAL "Type", source (LN, manga, etc.), producers, material rating (PG, R+, etc.), and the data found on the MAL stats tab.

So some charts or lists I'd like to see:

1) More data that compares us to the MAL community. this would pull a lot from the MAL stats tab. The only thing currently in GA+ that compares us to others is the rating difference on the "Anime List" page. You could add columns here so it would read left-to-right: Title -> Rating -> Difference -> Total users completed -> users dropped -> etc. etc.

Also, it would be nice to have a chart/graph that compares some things on our favorites pages. Something like adding columns to the Favorite genre and studios lists that have a % of other MAL users. For example: #1 Drama (C/M/W/Time) then "% of other MAL users that have drama as #1" or some percentile/weighted/popularity score related to that. Same would go for studios, I think it would be neat to quantify how well liked, by scores, Sunrise studio is across the whole community or at least those registered into GA+ for example.

2) More data with Time as a variable. For example; how I rate Dramas over time (this would have to be based on start/complete dates so if that can't be done I'd understand). But we could also have how we rate genre by year aired/released. You could see that you liked older drama series over newer as an example. You could also do this with studios, types, sources, etc. etc.

3) I'd like more flexibility on the History page of GA+. I've been using MAL regularly for 5 years now so there's solid data of Completed by Year (not just month), or recent history to extend beyond 3 weeks (looks like MAL only keeps 3 weeks though). Or a graph showing completed by month spanned over the past year+. Or average episodes/entries/completed per day/month/year.

That's all I have for now!

I'm just curious, is there any reason that 80s and 90s anime are under one achievement (classics) instead of having separate achievements for each decade?

@Tpfang56: Because there is absolutely no need to have them separated. Two achievements for the same thing is an overkill, and would just unnecessarily clog the page.

There's an achievement for really old anime (before the 80s) and not there's an achievement for old anime (80s and 90s). Considering the amount of anime released in those two decades and their similarities there isn't any point in separating them.

Maybe I'm asking too much but since there is a GAR achievement can we get a MOE one too? And like with the GAR achievement people can nominate animes for that category.

Edit: also maybe a bizarre or parody achievement?

@Kezian: for the Old Anime, there was a poll and it was voted that there will be no more levels, but the current one was increased from 10 to 25. As for the Long Runner, absolutely not, the number of available titles is very low, and it is very difficult to obtain it as it is anyway.

In fact, this, is my real problem: I can't see my progress for achievement with only one level. It could be nice to show them all, even if we are at level 0.

Edit: Just saw the pending suggestions "— progress for the achievements in which the user has not yet attained the first level, displayed as a progress bar with a lock badge;"
So, +1

I know that you can see the franchises that you have completed but I would like to see a list of the anime series that I have seen that are only 1 season and do not have OVA's or shorts, in other words I would like to see a list that shows anime that are not in any franchise in my list.

@Reinhard: I am perfectly aware who and what is depicted on the badges, as well as that the badges follow a pattern with which the final (4th) level is a monochromatic symbol on black background, which currently is the badge for level 4 of the Space achievement, thus the images will not be changed. Following rules and patterns is very important.

I am sorry, but why not reverse the text then? Despite all the patterns the text about the emperor without an emperor (or the image of a spaceship with a text about the imperor) does look quite odd.

Right now for the two long runner achievements, anime is set to 100 episodes and manga to 15 volumes.
There are not many anime with over 100 episodes and heaps of manga with over 15 episodes, so I was thinking that either episodes be moved down to 60 or manga volumes increased to 25-30.

@Aassdddai: The anime achievement was already reduced from 150 to 100, so absolutely not. As for the manga, that was also reduced from 20 to 15. Increasing it to over 20 is also out of question, but it might go back to 20 as it was before.

@Half_Bl00d in the case of achievements, isn't counting volumes wrong? I mean I have manga (s?) with:
- 131 chapters & 15 volumes
- 67 chapters & 14 volumes
- 87 chapters & 18 volumes
Not every manga has the same number of chapters per volume.

@Wannabiteme: You don't seem to know how manga volumes (tankoubons) work.

All tankoubons of all manga have a generally similar page count of ~200 pages. There are of course exceptions, but they are few. Thus it is completely natural to for them to have a different chapter count, since chapter length greatly varies between different manga.

As an example you have Dogs: Bullets & Carnage and Shokugeki no Souma which have 9-10 chapters per volume of about 20 pages each (and most weekly manga in general), or you have Pandora Hearts and Kuroshitsuji which have 4-5 chapters per volume of about 40 pages each (and most monthly manga in general).

Same goes for the light novels, with an example of Accel World with ~10 chapters per ~220 page volume and Black Bullet with ~3 chapters per ~220 page volume.

As you can see, counting volumes is the most universally fair and correct way, since volume length is universal, regardless of the chapter count.

OK, I've checked out the List of Suggestions topic and I'm really excited to see the rest from the "Approved Suggestions" implemented. Thanks for all your hard work!

Now, I'm not going to suggest anything regarding genres and stuff, but I'd like to suggest something for future badges that you'll be using for the "Approved" and even the "Pending" suggestions in case they get implemented. Would it be OK if you'll use characters from newer anime to appear in the badges for future achievements? Like, for example, a badge with a picture of Rem from Re:Zero in it. (Maybe for the future achievement related to reading light novels, or something else.)

So yeah, just a minor suggestion though. :P Thank you! >_<

@LunyRed: You're welcome. :)
As far as the badges go, we usually go for the most iconic series within the theme, so they may or may not be new, but we will take it into consideration for the further ones. For the specific light novel one, as far as I personally would like to oblige to that suggestion, we already made those months ago and sent them over to Deiv, so the chances of changing them are slim, sorry. :/

@Half_Bl00d: Oh I see. That's fine. :) Based from my understanding, the 3 remaining suggestions from the "Approved Suggestions" list already have their badges finalized, is that correct? In that case, that's alright. :) I'm looking forward to see those implemented soon.

If changing the badges is a no-go, then maybe it would be fine to suggest the badge idea for the list from the "Pending Suggestions"? There are plenty of them, but after reading the suggestions here, I found an achievement which I think could be appropriate for a badge with Rem.

Since it's still in the "Pending Suggestions" list, there might still be a chance that this one little suggestion could go into the "Approved Suggestions", and that the Rem badge could see the light of day. If this suggestion ends up getting rejected somehow, at least I'm happy that I was able to express my idea.

Rating distribution graphs should not include unrated shows. This defies common sense.

The use of the graph is to easily visualize and find statistical patterns. But being unrated means that show doesn't have the necessary data to be put into the graph. Perhaps a tally of unrated shows could still be included on the page, but when it's put into the graph it makes it harder to parse the data. But the bottom line is this: it's nonsensical to include unrated shows in a histogram based on rating.

Edit: The same argument can be made to remove the 'titles of unknown length' bar from the corresponding graph.

Recent history graph counts only last updated episode. For example, if you add a completed anime in the list, it counts as 1 episode. If you change the last watched episode not by + button but by changing the number from 5 to 10, it does the same. Maybe it's better to count recent history as the difference between the newly updated number and the previously updated number?

The favorite years graph shows average rating per decade/year, but would it possible to add a number of shows watched per year/decade to it? (Possibly separating it into two graphs, either one with the scores and one with the number watched, or one for the statistics by year, and one with the statistics by decade.)

Edit: Ok, wow, I never noticed that feature, ty for pointing that out.
