Wow, I certainly thought that Mahouka sold very well, but to get 80 000+ in its first week of sales? Even the wonder why this series is so popular.

Well Mahouka got big fanbase at Japan, overall Mahouka sales around 150-180K per volume so 80K starting kinda normal.

I'm not surprised at all, the light novels are great, the anime just doesn't give them justice.
The same with the Project Alicization arc of SAO, it's awesome, so it's no wonder it sells so well.

I understand everything, but I just always thought that Mahouka too controversial title to get such sales.

I've not heard of any particular controversy around the series? A single random guy on MAL making several dozen posts accusing it of being racist and then sticking this in their sig doesn't count.

Would be interesting to see. I don't think any light novels with non-humanoid protagonists have been animated before, even as an OVA?

Well, in my time I've heard a lot of criticism about the nationalist and anti-chinese views of the author, invincibility Tatsuya and clearly unhealthy exploitation incest theme in the work. Especially traditional Miyuki's thoughts: "brother can touch me in any place in which he wants, I'll do whatever he wants." Even the Dengeki openly admitted that Mahouka rather peculiar title.

Not to mention the fact that the concept of "How good are your genes, so you are beautiful and strong as a magician," really looks as an endorsement of eugenics, if we pay attention to how author extols Miyuki. Therefore, even I, being quite convinced Mahouka fan, think this title is quite controversial.

P.S Sorry for my poor english, I have a problem with a lot of text.

Mahouka and SAO back at the top, and both series aren't ending anytime soon (mahouka has just recently been confirmed go on into Tatsuya's university years in the latest volume), so expect to see this for years to come.

The series isn't nearly as controversial as the haters make it out to be and judging by the series popularity, they're the vocal minority, so sales aren't affected.

Well, the very existence of such hatedom already shows that the series is very popular, ReZero is good example of this. Another thing most Mahouka's haters have nothing to do with Japan, so do not really have weight, as I'm thinking now after your comment.

Yeah according to a spoiler from volume 21, Satou says he's going to continue the story into magic university and i believe he said the series is still going to keep the original title.

The series just started a new arc, Alicization arc was the final arc in the web novel, but it looks like the author is going to extended the series from there on.

Thanks, good to know that. I remembered something about the Alicization arc being an "end" but wasn't sure what of. So it was just the web novel. :)

Oh, I'm right feel like Miyuki in the 16th volume: On the one hand I am glad that the author will be able to give more time Mayumi and more detail show Tatsuya life as Yotsuba, but on the other hand, I am afraid that Mahouka turn into the same cash cow as the SAO or Gatari. How, then, volumes in the end does he want?

@Askorti Yeah heres an article about it http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2016-08-10/sword-art-online-novels-enter-new-arc-in-2017/.105213

@RobertBobert Well to get a conclusive ending, that ties up all the loose ends, it makes sense to extend the series past first high based on the current pace. Yeah i believe, Miyuki will have less screentime as she will be working as the clan head, while Mayumi and the others will get more as they'll be fellow university students with Tatsuya. Either way, im looking forward to it.

Huh, that's a good remark... Couldn't this be because the new illustration is made just recently, and illustrations from earlier volumes were made 10 years ago (for Webnovel if it even has any illustrations, I dont know)?

SAO realeased the 10th so it's great!

Also Kimi No Na Wa don't want to leave top 10 lol, it's insane.

And 86, the novel won the 23rd Dengeki Novel Awards sold well imo.
