Well yeah, we should've expected the ending to be filled with despair coz that's what the anime is all about, right? What I'm disappointed about is Nanami's death. I think Kodaka hates female MCs. DARN IT

Peko was SHSL Swordswoman but in reality she is a master level assassin of the gigantic crime syndicate of the Kuzuryu Clan. Fuyuhiko were already in line to become the head of the Kuzuryu Clan. Killing influencial people was no feat for their gang.Sonia was the princess of a small wealthy country and as the anime has shown she spread despair through the use of her nobility by spreading it far and wide using all her people. It was too late for the military to do anything since the government thought they were isolated incidents. Nidai, Akane and Gundam could attack a military base by their own but with the help of Soda's inventions plus Imposter could infiltrate a base without being noticed as a fake.

If the entire world couldn't withstand horseplay from sixteen deluded, frolic highschool students under the shoes of a psychopathic narcissist with an obsessive compulsive sister, then it probably did deserve the tragedy.

Those sixteen students are powerful influential people before they were even in hope's peak academy. Ultimate Imposter could waltz in any major government installation and order a nuclear attack on a city and no one would even know he was fake and also he imitated the Byakuya Togami who was the next president of a super powerful conglomerate. Sonia is a princess of small wealthy and powerful country and used media blackout, memes, her people and her entire army. Peko and Fuyuhiko are part of the largest crime syndicate in their country. Soda is one the greatest inventors and Junko's ISIS hired him. All sixteen of them are unstoppable with Junko's plans that can predict every possible ending. They weren't only killing people, they also converted some powerful worthy one's. This also didn't happen in a day. As the anime and games state, this happened in a year and Junko planned long before she was in Hope's Peak with major revisions due to key players accelerating her plan like Sakakura, Chisa and Izuru.

Danganronpa Zero happened between episode 10 and 11...

The series kind of time skips in months in every episode so they probably thought we would understand. I think DR0 happened at beginning of this episode when Sakakura and Chisa vouched for Junko's innocence and Junko watching from the Reserve Course building with Hajime probably was recently after the events of DR0. There were at least three timeskips in this episode alone.

I have to disagree on the times. In episode 7 the Student Council mutual killing happened, so I believe episode 8 was the start of DR0. Junko was the person who "found" the crime scene first and so she was throughly interrogated, so then Matsuda enters the scene and alters Junko´s brain. That is why we see a cameo of him in that episode.

Junko´s purpose of the tragedy of Kibougamine was also to have a chance to investigate Matsuda´s memory altering techniques. In episode 9, when Chisa is resisting the brainwashing, Mukuro reads a small notebook and then proceeds with the needles. That notebook is most likely one of Ryouko´s, that had Matsuda´s tecniques described in it.

Then, in episode 10, after killing Nanami and sending the 77th class into despair, she says they will be like her, rejoicing in the despair of losing someone you love. As I mentioned before, by this time she had already killed Matsuda.

The other possible hint of DR0 starting in episode 8 is when Tsumiki massages Junko´s legs. As I also said before, Ryoko was being chased by Madarai and ran a lot.

That is mostly about what I could gather about the times. The only thing that confuses me is the monobear´s class and the Monobear Maiden. They seem to be Chisa and the class, but when this happened, Matsuda was still alive and the kids haven´t fallen yet into despair.

I have many things to attach, but i´m sleepy. Feel free to correct me.

You're definitely right. That was probably not Chisa and I feel like Tengan was captured and escaped as a despair during DR0.

I hate Danganronpa for its stupidity yet I love it at the same time. So is despair like a disease in this anime because that's the vibe I'm getting from it.

I only have two problems with this anime. One is Junko, where she didn't always frequently change her personality due to being THAT bored with the world. She did it a decent number of times, but I wish she always did that, and she pretty much only changed to two or three of them. That's a minor problem, though.I suppose it would've gotten to difficult or, well, annoying.

My understanding of this is that her personality changes were a "phase". Junko seems to go through a lot of phases according to Mukuro, as when they're introduced Mukuro asks her "oh so you're narrating in 3rd person now?" And that narrating to herself stopped after a few times. So in that sense I think her whole rapid personality shifting was another "phase" she was going through for novelty's sake.

This show has been a bore since the halfway point, more specifically since Junko appeared. Frankly, she is a terrible villain, not terrible in the sense that she is a bad, bad woman, but terrible because everything just conveniently went her way due to what was set up in the future, for her to be this 'ultimate despair'. The writers don't know how to develop her into the 'ultimate despair/villain', therefore they forced the writing. For example, I am not a fan of how easily Mitarai went to her side, nor am I amused by Hinata finding her interesting just because of all the despair mumbo jumbo. Not even the soundtracks are good this time, compared to the Future arc.

Without Komaeda, to be honest this series isn't worth watching at all. His antics were always so fun to watch, not to mention he's voiced by the GOAT seiyuu herself, such a soothing voice.

There's a lot of stake on the Hope arc, which is expected to conclude both Despair and Future stories. Hope it turns out well.

Miikan and Mukuro have clashing personalities sonce they both enjoy being humiliated. The creator got lazy.

Nice to see Hinata holding Nanami's hairpin.

I used to joke around saying that Sakakura being gay for Munakata but I didn't think that I was right.

What a sad ending, and a little bit creepy too.
What was that in the end? Nanami alive?
And what was the purpose of Izuru all this time? Wasn't he supposed to be Super Hope? ...
RIP Nanami.

loved the closure and rounding up the story on how despair began to spread to the world. Nanami dying was a pity but overall i think it was cool. I thought Hinata's role would be important in the series but eh. Goodbye Danganronpa for me. 8/10.

Seeing the Class 78 characters setting up the school for the first game was a cool touch, and while it was sad to watch, I'm glad they showed the reserve students destroying Hope's Peak and their inevitable demise at the hands of Junko, since it was one of the other big "prequel" things we didn't get to see.

I think once the novelty of seeing the characters you love again in a well animated setting wears off, the Despair arc leaves you with a question. Will I actually learn anything new from this? Or is it all just information we as Danganronpa fans already knew. Well the most interesting thing they did was explain there was a human Chiaki. Though I don't relish in how cruel the series is to her, I thought her story was one of the strongest parts of the Despair Arc. It was also instrumental in providing the impact for one of the major questions left unanswered. Why does the cast of 2 become the Remnants of Despair? All in all I think this series left a little something to be desired. It was great and exciting at first, but a lot of the interesting hinted at things I wanted to see dramatized pretty much happened off screen. I also think it got a little exhausting near the end, retreading a lot of the same ground. Still it was a fun 11 episodes with a lot of great Junko moments and who could be mad about that?

Playing the game before watching this is probably the best thing I did. I'm pretty sure I would've been so confused and given this a REALLY bad rating if I didn't.

Like somebody said, the answers from the show really didn't live up to the mysteries established in the games. I was happy with the Izuru and Junko fanservice and whatever little screentime Nagito got, and it was at the very least more enjoyable than Mirai hen, but that's about the extent of the praise I can give. It ended how it should've ended, but the way we got there wasn't quite as good as I would've wanted it to be, especially compared with the games which were great. So yeah, the show was serviceable at best.

xeco said:
But how and who put Chiaki in NWP remains unknown?
Same question. I thought about Izuru, but he said he'd erase his own memories of his schoolmates, so I'm not sure how that's supposed to work. There's also the possibility that the Future Foundation gathered info on Chiaki the same way they gathered info on the rest of the class in order to create an AI close to her personality. I guess the question will be up in the air forever.

This is a tale of kibou that ends in zetsubou. And that was the end. Zetsubou-hen was amazing. Got to see my waifu Mikan in all her perfection and gained a new perfect waifu with Chisa. They really skipped DR Zero. lol At least they repeated one of Junko's lines from it on the rooftop scene with Mukuro before going to her classmates. Despair Arc really surprised me, it wasnt as thrilling as Future Arc, but I just enjoyed the cast more, the only letdown was that we never saw much of them brainwashed, aside that, ALOT of powerfull scenes and it made it clear for me Chiaki, is clearly my favorite girl from the series.
DR2 had an excellent cast and this anime done it enough justice.

finished the eleventh, and unfortunately final, despair arc episode. first,i would like to mention that i am sad this is finished,as it was the one arc that was enjoyable.

-the "viewers perspective" line followed by the ass slap was pretty hilarious XD

-so the group hypno took place off screen. that is unfortunate. i would have preferred to see it happen in full ala the student council events,as it would have been far more enjoyable then. the scene of them all suiciding like moths to the flame and sakura petals to the ground was a pretty good one though.

-the graduation scene confused me. was it supposed to be a joke between them or something? i mean, they were talking about peace and not killing with the whirly eyes >_>.

-the "meet them once more" part was weird too. how did Izuru know already about what would happen literally years in advance? it is implied that he planned the whole island thing, but a set of very specific things happened to make that possible that he in no way could have propheted at that point, ultimate analyst or no. it is obvious that he meant the island thing though,so it seems like this line was the same thing as Nagito's similar line in the end of DR:UDG. a foreshadowing that was very poorly thought out.

-so it seems like the students burned and destroyed almost all of the school, yet we see it in the end safe and sound. did the FF fix it?but how?didnt jin kirigiri lock the students in the areas that remained almost immediately after the events of this episode?

-there was a weird translation error in my sub.Based on my limited japanese,Junko said Naegi was the one person she couldnt predict, yet the translation said he was the one she could predict >_>

-she tried to kill him XD.the dude is lucky indeed lol XD.i wish she managed to do it though. a world that Queen Junko rules would have been far more intriguing ;)

-so they only showed a few shots of a few of the despairs working, which disappointed me. i had hoped to see far more of that,or at least see all of them.Regardless, i tried to analyze what we saw:
--peko and fuyuhiko murdered a Parliament? that was as random as it gets 0_o
--Sonia(i think)was inside a command center watching a city burn. most likely a neighboring country that she ordered invaded.
--akane beat up people in a dirty alley. i presume that is her "gutter home"that she talked about in DR2.
--the last one was the weirdest. somebody was underground, and it looked from afar like ryota, but ryota isnt a despair and thus it cant be him. who was that then? 0_o

-the last scene was weird. junko was in the 77th classroom, with the sealed windows, and she lifted the fallen Monokuma up. this reminds me of the ending of DR1,but that makes no sense. does this scene imply junko is still alive?or did it take place before she started her plan?her face also felt somewhat different in it. i am confused lol.

-so from the DR2 after credits scene it seems like Izuru was still awake inside Hajime even during DR2's events? damn lol.

a confusing,but still intriguing,episode.

also,i would like to mention something that has occurred to me for a long while: what happened to class 79?
The anime starts at the first year of class 77 after all,and ends with their graduation. that is 3 years. also,DR1 states that the first year of Class 78 was completely peaceful, then the events started happening in the second year, which further proves that. there is also the time needed for DR0 to happen.
so,that means that there WAS a class 79,that stayed for one troubled year. yet we NEVER hear anything about them whatsoever. not from any source. that is legit weird to me
it was mentioned in this episode that all perished except class 78. does that mean that class 79 all died? because i find it hard to believe that a whole class of ultimates would die just like that.
so yeah,any thoughts/ideas about this?

Definitely a much quieter tone for the finale, which I guess makes sense since the climax has pretty much already happened. But I dunno, this finale just feels underwhelming.

My enjoyment of this series has been somewhat inconsistent. I'm not sure if I like Mirai-Hen better or not. I kinda wish they would've done more with Izuru. Just like in Danganronpa 2 he felt super bland and underused.

I certainly liked this series, but it just feels off somehow. Danganronpa's always been mysterious, and seeing everything we've heard about go down is both satisfying and dissapointing at the same time.

That post-credit ending though. It's fucking perfect.

Forget about High School Level prodigies, these kids are literally World Class-tier, if not more, xD. Jokes aside, this was some thrilling finish though!

Yukizome-sensei's farewell speech alongside the atrocities was just so perfectly blended plus the OST, it's the Despair Arc alright lol. Mad stuff seeing how the the regular students were being manipulated like that and then the fashion in which they met their ends. Junko-chan is no pushover, that's for certain jeez. Got to say, it's got to be super convenient for Junko-chan to steal the blueprints from the animator to be able to pull off such stints though.

I was expecting to see the moment when Tengen-san was despaired too but I suppose that horrendous sight must've done a few things. Kirigiri-san's father pretty much setting up the death flags .. I'm surprised he decided to go along with the plan though considering they'd next to no clue as to who their enemy was all along.

Nice little meeting between Junko-chan and Naegi, too. Wasn't expecting her to be wary of from the very start, she's really an analyst through and through I see. Naegi's luck v Komaeda's luck, now that's a tough one...

Sakakura must feel like pure trash by the end of the episode. A secret spill vs. the loss of a certain portion of the entire human population, I'm afraid the stakes are far too much.

Interesting after-post credit scene to sign off with and some interesting buildup for the next Future Arc episode, and hopefully it'll deliver.

I honestly didn't think I'd find Junko-chan's character so despairingly interesting, and a large part of that has to go to the wonderful performance from the VA.

But the thing that topped the show for me is the Op theme. It's so perfect musically and lyrically but the visuals are fantastic too. Dat moment when Junko blows her seniors, that really packs a punch. ED is pretty great too, hard to imagine that a female sang it though lol. I thought it was a male all along until like about halfway.

Story-wise, it'd its ups-and-downs with bits and pieces of "Right, of course -_- " moments but it was entertaining throughout so props to that. Characters overall were just about fine, moreover. A few of the recurring soundtracks left more of an impression I feel but I didn't think it was half-bad as a whole actually.

As such, I'll settle with a good 6/10. Definitely a lot better than the Future Arc...

I would like Danganronpa better if the world building was kept simple and conceptual, a backdrop for murder games, but implicit and ambiguous. I never liked the endings of the games and here I obviously wouldn’t enjoy a series all about the stuff outside. That said, I can still respect the well defined and intricate world surrounding the games. I don’t enjoy the individual bricks but it is far more ambitious to build a castle out of those bricks like this series did than to stick to minimal world building.

Unfortunately, the answers that were intriguing and lifted from the game didn’t feel satisfying to me. The murder seemed to be changed from the dramatic way we learned of it in the game, I was expecting Fuyuhiko to kill the girl who killed his sister after Mahiru helped hide her and such. Instead of that emotional and complex string of events which would throw the cast of characters into a moral gray zone, we got a single episode which felt rushed and melodramatic to me. How do the students become chaotic beings known as the despairs? They got brainwashed, so much so that Mikan got brainwashed off screen. It serves a purpose to give reasoning but it’s not interesting or fulfilling. Why did Chiaki have to be programmed into the simulation? Well, she died in a slow, messy encounter, something horrific for her, but like many here, this wasn’t explicitly answered and it doesn’t make clear sense.

All of those reasons I was intrigued in this arc were therefore not satisfying for me. I don’t care for the silly yet serious worldbuilding of mass brainwashing and slaughter and chaos at the hands of highschool girls, or the cheesy being that Hajime became. It feels gratuitous and melodramatic in all the wrong ways. I tend to not resonate with any of the characters I didn’t already care for through the games. Ultimately, I feel the arc reached this limbo state of self serious and zany in a way I often couldn't appreciate either aspect of.

That said, the way it tied over to the start of the first game was super cute. Chihiro and Mondo working together was a nice detail. :)

This is the best danganrompa season of danganrompa because the character development was great and i guess this adaptation is pretty focused in that because the goal of this season is to get attached to the character and later to feel despair like when nanami died and the students being brainwashed is really heart breaking to me and this seasom has a solid plot like its the support to the season 1 and season 3 and for that reason i give this anime a

9/10 and still junko is one of these best antagonists
Sorry if my english is bad

Uhh isn't there a clear plothole in the timeline for Class 78? In the game they said class 78 got 2 years worth of school memories (including ones before the Tragedy) taken away from them but here it looks like they weren't even able to get through their first year before they had to convert the school into a shelter. Unless there was a time skip??

I wish that we could get a Sayonara Zetsubou Gakuen or a Danganronpa V3 anime (´;ω;`) but about this anime, all I can say is that it’s still a better love story than Twilight. Everything was amazing I really recommend it 10/10

(Also loved the white haired gay boy with the hope fetish even though he’s a little bit different than the game)

It was really cool to see them "meeting for the first time" at the end there. I really which they animated the second game. It would've been cool to see how it turned out. Anyway, this anime was alright. Now I just got to finish the last episode of future arc.

I’m sure I might have missed some stuff.
Why were the students from the first anime locking themselves up in the school? Were they brainwashed by Junko? And once they are done she’s gonna erase their memories and make them kill each other? And didn’t the 77th class died in the explosion? I don’t get how they are still alive out of school

This episode was sponsored by the company behind Genshin Impact???

This was an interesting and very despairful episode, but didn't feel like it should be the last one. Am I the only one who feels that way..?

Gonna give this arc an 8/10, maybe I would rate higher if Nagito had more screentime? At least we still have the hope episode ^^
