This surprised me, wasn't expecting them to have a partnership after all this time. Going to keep an eye on the video distribution this year to see how far they are expanding that.

@Comic_Sans almost everything on Kiss is a Crunchyroll or Funimation rip anyways, just with ad revenues going to Kiss instead. What's cancer-aids plus more ads? Ads they don't share with fansub groups either for the few shows that aren't officially subbed. They are not white knights.

I'm glad I won't have to pay for both Crunchyroll and Funimation anymore. In fact it is nice, Funi will be cancelling my subtitle only subscription so I don't even need to do that myself. I'm not really sure how this works in their favor as I was paying for both before.

They admit they are afraid of the big elephants in the room who have got into streaming recently, Amazon and Netflix. The bidding wars for streaming licenses have gotten very silly.

Will be nice not to have to watch Funi's hard subs and bad encodings anymore.

Now we wait to see how they are gonna deliver stuff, FUNi is self-aware enough to know that their shit sucks and they should let CR handle things for the most part, r-right? Right?

Oh yeah I heard about this. I'm more or less indifferent, but this is pretty cool, now people don't have to subscribe to both.

People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

MAL is literally just anime Twitter as its own website lol.

I'd like to see Tales of Zestiria on Crunchyroll. Only Funimation has been providing decent translation so far. Yes, we also have Daisuki but their english translation is really bad. C'mon, Funi & Crunchy, you can do it!

I've never said any of that. I just don't like promoting this kind of sites. They make (a lot of) money out of piracy, and it sucks.

Subs for anime were totally shit pre-simulcasts. And Funimation is not so bad as you guys claim.
Btw, RAW = shit video. Enjoy your annoying MPEG artifacts.

This is kind of a good business move for my perspective, marketing wise. It kind of means that nobody has to subscribe for both of them. Its kind of beneficial.

Very nice from both ends here. Since they can now work on each others strengths. I'm hoping to see some good things out of this.

So good infact I might sign up for crunchyroll right now.

Back at it again with the white vans angry shit posting

But the agreement is nice for us, but not for the Japanese companies

Now the two won't have to go through bidding wars to get the rights for a specific show, meaning studios will probably lose money

You posted this a bit late to be honest.

How does this affect me? In no way, region blocking is still a thing and I wonder if it will still be a thing in 5 years from now.

At least now I won't have to deal with Funi's garbage hardsubs and just enjoy softsubbed rips.

Maybe it will cease if everyone accepts to consume those animations throug those platforms. At a much higher cost than the current one. Then they might have enough money to buy the worldwide rights.

Since Funimation has been getting fewer shows to simulcast and Crunchyroll is picking up dubs, this is definitely for the better in the case of Funi. Not sure what Crunchy really gets, though.

Funimation x Crunchyroll ship confirmed

Well, I already heard about this yesterday but I'm still going to provide my same opinions.

This is a really great news. Especially the fact that FUNimation is now going to dub most Crunchyroll shows that they currently have and starting next season. I'm still going to keep my subscription for Crunchyroll even though I'm most likely going to use FUNimationNow more than CR in the future. They deserve my money, that's all.

Also, I'm really glad 91 Days, Ace Attorney, Joker Game, Alderamin on the Sky, Orange, Bongou Stray Dogs, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress and ReLife are getting a dub. More reasons not to unsub to Funi.

This is pretty nice for me. I was actually subbed to both. But now I can just sub to one for the content I want. I really only had a Funi sub pass so I could get the one or maybe two shows a season that I might want to watch that they would get (compared to several on CR). So, this works out well for folks like me.

Nope, they have some good translators, too. For an instance, their Tales of Zestiria is very good. And I rly have nothing against Funi. Their translations are perfectly understandable. Editing is usually bad tho.

Bar a small selection of shows, Crunchyroll getting the majority of FUNimation's subtitle catalog is huge, and by the end of the year when all that content is moved over I'd say they got a VERY good deal.

(I'm also saying this on a whim that FUNimation can actually move it's entire subtitled catalog (bar those few exceptions I mentioned above) to Crunchyroll in a timely matter).

Console Apps + Roku scheduled for May -- Delayed for a second time until October

(They've also got a PlayStation Vita app in development now for some reason)

This isn't me trying to shit on FUNimation, this is me worrying about actually getting content moved in a timely manner. I'm sure they'll prove me wrong in my fears, but until then I'll continue to worry.

Congrats on the marriage, CR and Funi. Now if only Funimation would get a more humanoid mascot instead of that Geb (Neopets) with the bling in his mouth, then maybe we could draw some fan art. Because no beasto. Or... no... foodo...? Since Funi's mascot is an onigiri...

I dunno.

Right, so what I'm getting from this is that pretty much instead of fighting(?) over licenses, they're going to be sharing licenses in a way that allows Funi to profit off the dub version of a title and its distribution while Crunchy gets to profit off the sub version?
I keep trying to see whether one brings in a little more money than the other, but in the end, because of adblocks and such, I think having rights to the subs would make about the same amount as the other option... Then Funi is getting to dub/distribute some pretty successful titles which they didn't have access to before, which will definitely bring in some money for them. Heck, I feel like Funi might actually end up getting more money since in the end they're still distributing the anime subbed-- BUT Crunchy had been losing out on a lot of titles to Funi (one of the main complaints about Crunchy is their lack of titles after all), so now they can profit from those titles. It will really take a little time to see if it ends up being a fair deal, because it seems like it just about equals out...

"All of this means no more hunting for who’s got your favorite shows each season". Okay, but you two aren't the only people licensing stuff? Or to put it another way, you guys don't license everything, so it's all the same to me. A hunting I will go. Though admittedly, I assume the bulk of seasonals (that are expected to be popular enough) will be licensed by these two. Crunchyroll has gotten some anime that not a lot of people watched though-- and though I thought they were great, they didn't do too well (?? in other words, they took a risk??). Wonder how they'll go about those now.

Enjoy your anime! | Witch Cafe Wisteria

Well I've never even bothered looking into Funi because their website is so trash. Plus I don't think it's available in my country anyway. It's good I guess, unless they merge though I don't see how it benefits Funi. Pretty much means they will lose a large amount of Subsribers because they are only dubbing now. Hell all th comment sections on crunchyroll are full of people saying they're just going to unsubscribe to them now...

You kidding me. If I watched 5 Funi dubs 3 will be good, 1 will be average and 1 will be bad. It's the other licenses who use the same 5 actors (Sentai) or the most well-known or paid ones even though they suck at adapting to the character (Aniplex)

Come back to me when region-locking is a thing of the past (which is probably never). When half of the shows I want to see are restricted to the English-speaking territories, this will be of a very little value to me.
