It was a good last episode for me, the pace was fine, too much drama would have made it annoying. I liked the very last scene.
Overall I'll subtract 1 point because there were too many out-of-character moments throughout the series, 1 point because the story wasn't that powerful, and another point because of the useless fanservice, that always ends up ruining an otherwise good story (am I supposed to be attracted to a cartoon by the way?).

So all in all it's a solid 7/10 for me.

The story deals with the relationship between Shinichi and Hiromi and their struggle to realize and live their love for each other. I found Nobuse to be a strong willed and excellent character, while Aiko to be equally weak and wishy-washy. I liked how their relationship matured towards the end.

Now when it comes to Noe, well, I don't think she will ever forget Shinichi since probably he is her first love, but it gave her a solid reality check, although I thought she was actually more receptive and mature about human emotions than the rest of the cast. She now knows what it is like to fly, because of what happened through the series.

To me, Noe was actually the central character for this show, and the true tears were actually shed by Noe at the end, which was due to her true feelings for Shinichi and her worldly realizations. Nobody actually deserved Noe. She was way over everyone's level.

A 9/10 is what this anime deserves. A true slice of life.

It was to be expected... Noe and a broken heart...
It was a nice serie. You could say it was a bit predictable, but ok... It was enjoyable.

A nice ending as well, because they all win. Hiromi gets her Shin, Noe gets her tears, Aiko "graduated" from Shin. They all have won something. :)

So even though Noe lost... YAY for Noe! She got her tears back! Thanks to Shinichro! He did it properly and I'm glad he did!
Did she cry at the end? I thought I saw no tears. And why did Shinichiro cry?

Its was an 'Okay' show, i really loved Noe as a character, I never really got any sort of feelings of the development with Hiromi.
She's just the typical anime heroin.

... She was basically Shin's mum.

I'm glad that Shin chose Hiromi(she needed him the most, and he loved her and viceversa), but i feel sad for Noe..she was such an inspiration, an amazing girl that radiated innocence.

Gah this series was getting so good until the writers started to ignore best girl Noe for some stupid reason. Sigh at least she's not wrecked or anything at the end but i wished Noe got a better ending than this.

Well that was quite a dramatic show. The music, the plot and the characters were nice. However, I did feel that Noe or Aiko would have been a better choice for the MC because they were the only only one who were quite frank with their feeling regardless of their situation. Hiromi on the other hand, allowed a lie to take over her life without exploring the truth behind it and when she found out the truth she started expressing her feelings and emotions as if nothing ever happened. Overall 7.5/10

Konbanwa minasan! I made a registration just so I can put down my opinion for True Tears. I've been a devoted anime fan since Cowboy Beebop days and I've watched a handful of series.

To be really short - I loved True Tears - not only the story is top notch - pretty realistic, without the comedy elements so many viewers are longing for some reason. - but the animation, character development and overall feel to this series were great. One of the few series to convince me that what I saw was really possible.

One minor flaw was Shin's character being so indecisive and at the same time realizing to full extend the pain he was causing. But then again I was able to relate to this because of personal experience :).

The final, although somewhat anticlimactic, earns bonus points from me again for realism. Not going the easy route - pleasing fans and offering a happy ending cliche was a nice surprise. Because I was sad and happy and moved in the end. All at the same time. Again, very few animes were able to do that for me.

I won't delve deep into characters, plot, story and so on, because I still have goosebumps from the finale. If I'm to award True Tears with a score It would be 9/10, because you know... nothing is really perfect. But it is in my top 10 (not genre related) with Kara no Kyoukai, Zankyou no Terror, Ergo Proxy, Lain, Haruhi and so on ;) Cheers everybody

Somehow i must have missed the scene where Hiromi, Noe and Aiko meet. There was one, right? I mean, both Aiko and Noe are supposedly fine with Shin picking Hiromi. Shin also met Aiko repeadetly since then (once at the shrine, once in the shop at least). But we never saw the three girls meet again..

While the Bechdel test is not really a good instrument, i thought i'd apply it to True Tears, and it has a surprisingly hard time passing it despite having 3 girls as main, out of 4 characters.

Shins mother and Hiromi talked about food near the end, thats probably the biggest thing. We didn't hear what Noe and her new friends said, so we can assume it was about lunch..and Hiromi did talk with Tomoyo and the captain of the team (who is apparently named Rumi. Did they ever actually mention that?) about basketball..

Interesting enough, the boys probably talked most about the girls, so it wouldn't exactly pass a "reverse" Bechdel test.A lot is subjective though.

It is about "boys" or "girls" if the gender of the character doesn't matter during the discussion? And a lot of things where connected to the whole drama, like, Jun promised to do everything to Hiromi so she wouldn't break up, so when she asked him to give her a ride, would that pass the Bechdel test with the previous assumption that gender doesn't matter at this point, as it doesn't matter why he promised it, just that there was this promise?

And we never really saw Noe cry - we only saw what has to be assumed to be her tears fly away. And Hiromi did cry more during the festival then in the end there..

For it being called "True Tears", the ending was therefore a bit anticlimatic.

Noe got more development and screen time (dont know if its true but thats how it felt) making me want to root for her the whole time, to be honest she was more the main heroine, or perhaps star of the show, than Hiromi, but the rule of thumb for anime is first come first served so Hiromi was the inevitable winner from the moment she appeared on screen.

F*** you Hiromi, and f*** you No. 4 for being a scapegoat you sis-con f***.

...And thats my Pro-Noe ramble over with.

Well, it was a good anime. But what an indecisive ass Shin was. Holy shit. And it's a real shame it was Hiromi in episode 11 that said "it's not me you love"... That creates the question. Did she turn to Shin because she knew Jun was a major siscon, and she had no chance?

Thank god it ended with Himori. I didnt wanted to cheer for any girl at first, since I knew it wouldnt be easy to foresee who the MC would choose at the end, but later on I first started cheering for Noe but then liked more Hiromi with the development she had, that said, I did said and alot of insults to some characters since they behavior was beeing soo anoying (like the MC mother, bitch), temporary grudges.
Near the end the show swamped soo much between Himori and Noe for the flags of the ship, that it was pretty nervwrecking, thang god hiromi's shipped, still felt sad by Noe (lol for her brother), but in the end the best girl won!

I don't think this show had enough of a denouement. The last episode was all tension and drama and stuff about chickens, then the final confession, and then a really rapid wrap up. I feel like we didn't really have time to breathe and celebrate the new happy couple. A scene of them holding hands and smiling would have been more than enough payoff (especially considering that Hiromi hardly gets to smile). I think there could have been 10 fewer seconds of Noe staring at the chicken coop for this.
7/10 for this anime, just for the ending.

Few parts of this anime that bugged me. Once again it's the same old spineless MC who doesn't know how to speak when he needs too opting to keep quiet and causing even more trouble. I get that it creates tension and more drama but come on can we have a smarter MC once in a while? How Noe got to the beach in time before MC threw away the book was impressive but that's fine, miracles in romances are nice to see.

True Tears is a pretty good romance anime but I wish they could have fleshed it out a bit more. There could have been so much more emotion if this had been a 22-24 episode series allowing us to really develop all 3 heroines. Ai's role in the anime felt kind of weak and I would have loved to see her have a much more deeper meaning to the story. It was pretty obvious she didn't have feelings for MC's friend at first and it wasn't surprising to see them break up. For most of this series it just left me wanting more.

Poor Noe, best character gets robbed in the end but expected. I like Noe over Hiromi because when it came to MC Noe had a reason to fall in love with him. She looked up to him and found a connection. Hiromi's love felt like MC's love, just a crush that they both had. I could have missed some key points and the fact that going into the story their love for each other was already established makes it a bit harder to see versus Noe's love which came to fruition halfway through the series.

So far just a bit of criticism so let's turn it around. One thing that I really loved was the use of the still frames that resembled paintings. They really captured the moment and drew out the emotions going on in the scenes. Very good use of such beautiful pictures.

As a romance I quite enjoyed True Tears but it will remain below other great romances like Your Lie in April or AnoHana simply because it felt a bit short compared to those two. Once again I do feel like this series could have been even greater if it weren't limited to 13 episodes.

Noe is best girl. If you think otherwise it's cause you have shit tastes, deal with it.

Edit: Would have been lovely to see Noe actually cry other than the little thing at the end.

If your familiar with all of Mari Okada's show's , you will realize that she always likes to sideline one of her main characters in a way that makes them so irrelevant and we don't get much back stories on those characters like the of rest of the main cast from the show. She did this in Toradora , Nagi no Asukara ,Anohana ,sakurasou and Aquarion Evo.In true tears ,this happens to be Aiko's role.True Tears is a love triangle and not a harem anime .

I actually enjoyed Aiko's arc the most in this anime and I don't think her role is weak at all , she has a stronger role than most third wheels in harem anime's because she has the whole situation with the best friend and she's not only there to be in love with the MC like most third wheels but people don't take notice of this because she got rejected earlier in the series ,I can't imagine a more fitting role for Aiko other than this one .Aiko Story is about fixing her mistakes and not about her wining like most people assume .

I get what you mean. It all happened too fast for me to feel for her compared to Noe and Hiromi. Just how her situation ended felt weak. She tells MC's friend about the situation and MC's friend just denies it until one day she decides MC is unattainable and she should have stayed with the friend. Could just be harder to notice because it happens earlier like you mentioned. For a 13 episode series it did it's job and by no means was it bad, I was just left wanting more you know? Which, from the perspective of the director, is a good thing causing your viewers to want more.

Aiko's character is quite bizarre and everything about her is strange and it's quite hard to understand why she's in the story which is why a lot people think she's useless .

I will try to expalin what I think-
The childhood friend character is an important factor of a harem anime and it's been done a million times in anime , the childhood friend has special characteristic that are always used (girl next door, same school , sister-figure, advisor). In True Tears those elements are lessened in regards to Aiko's character . Aiko goes to a different school and she's very distant from Shin and she's dating his best friend ,She faces more obstacles then the usual third wheel and she gets less screen time than the rest of the cast.

I read an interview with the writer one and she said in her interview that the store represents Aiko's world which she's trying to hold onto it (Her friendship with Shin )but I don't remember the rest.I wish we got more info on her character.

I like how you highlighted her loneliness. Thinking of it that way, it makes the fact that there is little about her that we know more powerful. Subtle but deep meaning behind her.

Aiko's is a symbolic character and she's mostly used for symbolism .She doesn't have an obvious role like the rest of the characters in the anime ,she plays more than one role.It took me quite a while to understand her character but yes ,majority of the people don't understand her character and are upset because she got dismissed quite early in the story but she's a well-written character even if her arc lasted for a short time.

Been years since i've watched this and was lurking around until i saw this. Your comment is probably the best comment that expressed what this show is about, at least to me. The more i rewatch this, the more i realized how this series' writer is trying to explain the characters' personality and emotions, alongside with their relationships with each others throughout this series. In fact this series was the one who made me into slice of life series..although a slice of life without romance is kinda meh to me

i have to say i liked Noe,she was strange to watch and her interactions with MC were nice....
Still she seemed more like a weird child to me than a romantic partner so in the end i didnt mind Hiromi and MC.....plus noe not ''winning'' the romance might have been sad but at least she was shown to have finally made friends.

I read a few posts and was surprised by how many people were ok with Nobue and aiko..but to me was something that dissapointed tbh i guess its the obligatory side char route or something?

Basically Aiko dated Nobue just because MC asked her (which she loved),lied to him in his face for months, especially last few episodes with the knitting thing and the kiss, she dropped the guy like nothing and when it was certain she was rejected she called the guy back like it was nothing......I am sorry but i really felt bad for Nobue, the dude just a 17 yo kid he got all his life ahead to find a girl that will treat him right without baggage.....no to mention the way he acted over all this just seemed unbelievable to me as well.
I think it was nice to have char like Aiko because out of the 3 girls she seemed abit more real, but the ending with nobue and their reactions after what happened was abit unbelievable and didnt make sense to me.

I just dont get why they decided to make that ship, seemed to me quite unrealistic, and really bad ending for nobue, doubt a couple like that would work

You forget to mention that she dated Miyokichi just so she can see Shin every day at her store. At first, she was just satisfied with being close to him but the moment Noe entered the picture, she changed her plans and kept dating Miyokichi in order to get even more closer to MC while lying to both guys at the same time ...very evil plan

What's with the lukewarm reaction to this episode? It was well executed from beginning to end. I'm upgrading the series from 8/10 to 9/10 because it was pulled off so well... and I'm a Noe fan. ^^

Hiromi really pulled through with her "sportsman" attitude, I like how she was able to overcome her negative tendencies and become a better person in the end. Watching her change throughout the series has been one of the best parts.

Also, the Noe/Shin scene... wow, that was amazing. When Noe came to pick up the papers off of the beach, it reminded me of ef-a tale of memories. And then the song as Noe was walking away - "The one in Shin'ichiro's heart is Yuasa Hiromi... there's also one under Shin'ichiro's foot." It was heart-rending because Shin knew what he was doing to Noe. I'm glad that Noe acted the way she did and took it so well, she's really a noble character.

And then at the end, when we get the sparkles in the air, right after the credits role, subtly showing that Noe got her tears back. Just wow. Awesome conclusion to a great series.

9/10 in my books. Honestly, I cannot agree more (I'm a Hirmoi fan though hehe), especially with her tears in the end. It was always implied that he would find her tears, and in a way he did. Additionally, Hiromi did an amazing job tbh, from all the negativity from the mother, and at the time believing that she was in love with her half brother, she really pulled through. I probably would have given the show an 8/10 if he simply chosen one or the other, the fact that it displayed he had feelings for both and that he knew he did and had to tackle it the best way he thought possible (don't forget hes still a teenager) was incredibly realistic and unfortunately a common aspect of life.

Amazing anime! 9/10 For me. From the get-go it had the all the qualities of a good romance drama anime. Sad music, unfortunately indecisive main character, good female leads etc. Reminded me of other similar anime which were great like Ef. Tale of Memories and White Album 2. I'm glad that the MC wasn't too late with his choice, unlike in

One less excellent romance drama anime left in this world...
“Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth. But the world isn't perfect, and the law is incomplete..." -Alphonse Elric

"Then and now, what I protect has never changed!" -Sakata Gintoki

I'll take anything like The Pet Girl of Sakurasou. Anything as good as that.

Great ending to be fair, glad everything got sorted out, sorta.
I really liked how everyone kinda had their own way of overcoming their issues.

I think this is a very well constructed comment on the show, I've had similar feelings towards it.

This kind of story / genre may not be my favourite as it was generally straight forward but I did find myself intrigued and really curious as to how everything would pan out.

8/10 from me.

A melodrama done right.

I kinda wished he ended up with Noe since she was a more likable character, in my opinion. They both have that deep bond between them, sadly he chose Hiromi, but nothing can be done with that.. :) I think Noe was the most important character in the series.

The scenes where she tried to grab paper and where she walked on the road was tearjerking

Beautiful ending scene (epilogue). So she finally could fly... Noe tears T.T

And of course, beautifully painted backgrounds...

8.5/10

I honestly had no idea who he was going to be pick at the end there.

It's true though, Noe was too good for him. Noe you were the best, screw the others. Oh but I liked Shinichiro's best friend though too. Kinda secretly wanted him and Noe to get together

Since the start. I've shipped Shin x Hiromi, cause they love with each other since childhood (but also because Hiromi is beautiful, that's why I ship her with Shin). But individually i love Noe more, just don't ship her with Shin. Their relationship was so forceful, of course it really hurts me to see Noe heart broken. But then again I don't want to see Hiromi heart broken as well. Between the two, Hiromi will have the most heart broken, cause she super deeply in love with Shinichiro. Yes Hiromi is kind of a bitch, but of course she will act that way, if someone is close to the guy she love. Hiromi thought that she and Shinichiro already dating since episode 10. So she have the right to be selfish about Shinichiro. Glad that Aiko & Miyokichi still going out with each other. Still sad about Noe, but there must be someone who's heartbroken. I hope she finds guy that can fly as well or better than Shinichiro. I give this anime an 8/10

It's almost like a rebound. You attach yourself to the person that is available to ease your pain. You think you like them, you convince yourself you like them...maybe. It wasn't love. That was more of a dependence. Those kinds of relationships are bad for both parties. Noe was Shin's crutch for the wounds he was feeling from Hiromi. Sometimes you just have to take the pain and move forward in order to heal yourself otherwise you won't make it. Shin had to lose his crutch in order to move on himself. It hurt him cause he liked that crutch but he had to face his situation with Hiromi and fix it.

This crutch theory is made evident in the last episode both figuratively and literally with her limping through the last few minutes of the show. There can be so many conantations made here as using a crutch can signify hurt, limping through life, but also a help..the crutch helps one walk on and as Noe's role in the show was to help him fly or become motivated. The fact of her jumping from the tree seeking her own freedom seemed a tad forced as I kept expecting her to fall out of the tree rather than trying to fly.

pretty weak series could have been written better, although what bumped it up from an "average (5)" to a 6 for me was because I thought it was slightly above average with the ending and noe getting her tears back. Good character development

Started off as a good Anime. Ended up as trash.
I was enjoying it up to around episode 8 where every thing got mixed up and the story got pointless.

Literally everyone was depressed over nothing. And at the end Noe was left alone. Bad ending for me.
