| Can anyone dig deep, deep within their anime mindsets and think of the first example of a tsundere? The closest thing to the first tsundere that I can come up with is Chi-chi from Dragon Ball. I'd say she's the mother of tsundere as Koji Kabuto is to badass. |

| I'm sure there had to have been an earlier instance of a tsundere than Misty, and maybe I didn't see enough of the original Dragon Ball, but Chichi really didn't seem like a tsundere. Again, only saw a little bit of Dragon Ball, so me being wrong is easily a possibility. Earliest example I can think isn't from an anime, but I think Princess Leia's relationship with Han Solo in Star Wars Episode 4 seemed very tsundere-like. ...I believe I may have geeked out a little too much on that example. |

The most recent tsunderes we've seen; or tsundere esque characters take the idea of tsundere-in the shy lovehate relationship but do it in a more subtly nature. It's hard to define modern in an artform-it changse to quickly. the question is like a very hard one to awnser. |

I'd say Fujiko Mine but she's in a class of her own. the diff with tsundere's nowadays is that they try too hard making them cliche to the classics |

| Historically the first character to be called tsundere was Daikuuji Ayu from the excellent kimi ga nozomu eien in 2002. AFAIK No character was recognised as such previous to her . So, even if there are now peoples to point out similar personality traits in older characters, the first tsundere is Ayu, and not an older character, as they only gained their "tsundere status" after Ayu. Tsundere is an extension of the IRL behaviour of someone bullying the person he/she loves because he/she's too embarrassed to be honest with his/her feeling. So if you're going to say that the "first tsundere" isn't defined by the first called tsundere but instead by the first character to have that same kind of behaviour before that, then we may have to go back to several hundred (thousands?) years old fiction stories to find that first character. Which obviously is useless and fruitless. So the first tsundere character is Daikuuji Ayu , QED. |
