@logic340 Yes, it seems to be a manga based on a light novel, so you may use it.

http://myanimelist.net/manga/74071/%E2%97%8FREC

I read that earlier this year, thinking i'd report it for inappropriate content. Didn't know it was a doujin until today. It's a pretty good one-shot. I'm also gonna use it for that bonus.

Edit: btw it's not porn.

i second this. this will be my item for this challenge as well^^

i have a question concerning the rules:
"4. "Can I use webtoons and/or ongoing manga?" -- Sure, just remember that if they are ongoing, you must be up-to-date with the latest chapter (either raws, released through scanlation or print depending on what you are using) when you declare your challenge complete."
i read manga mainly online/with an app but there are some manga i am buying (and waiting months for the next volume). would it be okay to read the latest german volume available if the english print/scans are further ahead or should i read them as well?

PS: how many chapters that count as part of this challenge have you read so far? i'm at ~625 chapters with mainly short manga... i'll probably exchange some of them with longer manga when i've done all challenges once... (using manga like "Infection" feels like cheating since it was rly bad and has been dropped by the translating group)

@Simar I've read 503 chapters so far. I've finished only 12 categories. So almost a quarter of the challenge. I'm probably gonna end up reading over 2500 chapters for the challenge.

I also finished Densha Otoko, and I highly recommend it. I believe @Dullboy rec'd it to me. I would definitely pass that on to anyone. It's legit awesome.

^ Glad you liked it @AudioTsunami.

Thanks for the Doujin .recommendation (huhu) , I read it actually after seeing your comment , I avoided it before because I thought it was "that kind" of thing... but I didn't had it to my list . I'll read something else for the challenge . There is something about the "troll" spirit it have ( don't have better word to use) and manipulating aspect that annoy me greatly . I am very arsh with things that try to be heavy drama but do it forcefully (in my opinion) , or try to play and trick the reader . But how could it have done well , with only 27 page ?
One shots or any short manga/doujin need a lot of talent to be done well . I really think short forms are extremely difficult to handle well .

Drama is hard to make.. but comical manga might be as hard to make if not harder .
I'm reading Azumanga Daioh those days , the 4-Koma . I find it pleasent to read , but it didn't made me really laught , just smile time to time . It seems to me japanese jokes are clearly different than "western" ones . Anime series comedy had more impact on me and seems to work better than in manga maybe . Maybe it's the lack of sounds and voices ?
The 4-Koma format seems difficult to handle too .
As I like to say jokingly , the only god I revere in the departement is Bill Watterson with "Calvin and Hobbes" ^^ .

Not sure if you can find every one-shot online but I recommend Hagio's collection "A Drunken Dream and other stories". Other than you can try "Ketchup Mayonnaise" by Ikuemi or "Danza" by Ono Natsume or "Sukima shiki".

I think Asano's What a wonderful world counts. I didn't like it but most people did.

Akai Mi Hajiketa and Hikidashi ni Terrarium are some of the ones I was planning on using.

If you read one manga online then you must be up to date to the last released chapter online, but then if you read another in print, you just need to catch up to the latest released volume in print. So, for the one you're reading as German publication, the latest published volume is enough to be up to date.

Length doesn't matter
Manhua and Mangwa both count but other types comics do not(american, french manga, german manga, ect)

Edit:Apparently mentions don't work anymore?

Greets everyone, I started this challenge today and I'd be greatful if someone can recommend me some good titles for these categories:

  • read a manga recommended to you by another Manga Reading Challenge participant
  • read a manga that another user has read for this challenge

I'll read anything as long as it's completed. Thanks in advance!

I saw that yes ! I'm pretty exited to read it ! Hope it will live up to my expectations .
I'll read it in the upcomming day I think , and when I'll have finished it , I might do a little "review" of it here (the same way I did for Banana Fish) .

I don't give 9 ratings very often . But today, I did .
Maybe after some time I'll re-think about it and lower it to a 8 , but I'm not sure I will . What I can say and I'm sure about on the other hand , is that it felt like a strong read to me .

I'm talking about a shoujo manga named Hot Road .
Now to be honest , I haven't read much shoujo manga , and most of the one I read , I didn't liked them that much or there always was at least a little thing that bothered me . Even Mars , that I really liked , I still thought the drama was a little too overdone time to time . Sometime it's the art style that clearly put me off from reading shoujo , sometime it's the psychology of the characters or the way of doing the drama in them .
For once , I didn't had any problem like that with "Hot Road" .
The characters , the art style , the drama , the romance , all those aspect were growing on me progressively while reading it , and it never felt forced .
I've never been one to be that much interested by "complexe plots" or "stories that get you to the edge of your seat" .
Here , the story was simple and the character felt alive . The delicacy of the drawing and the emotion were there . And that's all I need to have a good story in my book .

I'd like to recommend people to read it for their challenge list . Either as a manga that was published before 1990 , or if there is need of a shoujo or romance manga .
You might not like it as much as me , or think it's an average read , but it's ok . Everyone have their own sensibilities .

I just see that there was a "live action" made out of the manga . Those sort of adaptation always intrigued and amused me , especially since the actors have face so much different than what the characters looks in the manga , and they kind of look like they don't know how to play that well too , huhu ^^ . Maybe I'm just badmouthing , I never watched one of those movie/serie to begin with after all . Maybe one day .

I would have prefered to not do a double post, but since nobody responded since my last comment, I guess I'll do it.

I finished reading Innocent yesterday . And for what I was expecting from it, it didn't disappointed.
The style of the author, would it be for the art or storytelling.. is very peculiar.
And then, I said I would write a review here, but after reading the manga, I found myself wanting to do a proper review in the dedicate section of the manga page.
It took me a LOT of time ^^ . Oh boy
But I'm pretty happy with it. I don't really want to do my publicity, but if you happen to read it and want to discuss about it with me afterward, I'll be happy.

Slowly but surely I'm doing the manga challenge, and I'm a little more than halfway now, I would say.
But I'm still having problem to find some items :
- "Read a manga that started serialization the year you joined MAL" (that would be 2014 . But I find it hard to find because I didn't found any practical tool to research this. So if you have any idea..)
- "Read a manga that is tagged with a genre you dislike" = harem (but then I didn't found any I could like ! I tried reading Golden Boy, but it was a disaster... if it come to this , I'll have to use "Shounen" , but it's not like I have strong dislike for it.. it's not even really a genre after all)
- "Read a manga published between 1990 and 2000" (more easy to find, but then if someone that "know me" in this thread have a specific idea of what I should read, that would be nice)

How's your manga challenge going everyone ? Any recent very good discovery ?

Yeah this thread is really slow. Innocent was really good but the ending is not that great due to it being a part 1. There is a lot of tension built but the climax never really happens

I have more to say when I get home

edit: 2014: Magi no Okurimono, Manyeo Sanyang, Maria-san wa Toumei Shoujo
harem: Boku wa Kiss de Uso wo Tsuku and SLH are both the shortest decent ranked ones I found.
1990-2000: Subaru fits and I 110% recommend using it cause it rocked. It's also the only thing I've read that I recommended lol.

2014: Inuyashiki (and it's on your list, too). If you use filters in advanced search section, you'll get all the manga that started in 2014. Just don't forget to check if the column with start date is showing.
harem: Ore ga Doutei o Sutetara Shinu Ken ni Tsuite (it's listed as harem here)

I've actually finished reading Golden Boy for this challenge. It was so bad that I'll probably never forget about it.
I also added Hot Road to my PtR list^^

- For some reason, I like the idea of reading my first (and maybe last) "boy harem" manga for the challenge , so I'll read Boku wa Kiss de Uso wo Tsuku . huhu
- Oh right , Subaru ! I had it on my plan to read for some time too.
Hmm, well I prefer to have a manga that finish publishing before 2000 , to stay in the decade, so I won't use it for this item, but I'll surely find a place to have it for another one. Nice.
Thanks for the help

@Djoker123 Athough the manga does have some slight romance at times, I wouldn't say it focuses on a romantic relationship between the main characters. It's more about dealing with the aftermath of an event, so I'll have to say no on this one.

@lubryka I'm not sure... the criteria for that should be 3 or more characters as main who are under the age of 12 and the cats wouldn't count. From the summary and so on, it seems only the human boy is the main character. If you have more human characters as adults, then it wouldn't count. If it's just cats and the human boy, then it could count... but I'd recommend that you try to choose something else?
