What do you want to be in your future career, if you are under the age of 18? If you are above it, what is your career. Any Lawyers or Doctors here?

I'm on my second year at university, studying biomedical engineer. True, engineering might be overrated, but I think medicine is too. At least in my class, everybody wanted to go into medicine. I was personally in doubt about medicine and this degree, but I I didn't want to spend 6 years just memorising, I wanted to do practical stuff.... Funny fact, though. I actually heard about BME when watching Full Metal Alchemist and felt I wanted to build Automail, haha. I'd love to specialise in bionics, yup.

Petroleum Engineering, even though engineering is overrated. I'd get to study a great range of subjects while continuing with my studies, I'd face very little competition, best travelling experiences, there's a large range of career options, and the career actually has hope for the future. Apart from that, I'm interested in the distribution of one of the world's most needed resources. I don't know why though, I just am. lol

I'm 21. Currently a college student and I also work full time as a developer.

For the past few months I have been very interested in doing research so I am considering a more academic career path for the future. Not sure if I will do it though since my interest in doing research might be a temporary thing and I will have a decent income after graduation if I continue working for my company as a developer.

No career for me. Just games and boozing till I die. However I've thought about going for sales recently, which is where all the loonies and opportunists end up. That's pretty much the last chance if I'm going to work in this lifetime anymore.

I'm 21 and I don't really know yet. I will probably have different jobs during my life time, and some paths are already decided for me, if I just want to. I will take over my father's business one day, and the family estates.

So what seems to be a head of me is becoming an entreprenuer, farmer and politician. I want a college degree though - even so - so I will get that first. Haven't really decided yet what I want to major in.
Aside from that, I will join the reserves (military) soon and also do some writing. But neither of those are really something I want to make a living on. Just because I want to.

Haha, seems like I know afterall

You're right, everybody wants to go into medicine and guess what? A vast majority of them burn out or don't get accepted. Engineers on the other hand, I have massive respect for; schooling is hard as fuck and they are generally always going to be in demand and highly compensated, because of such. A good portion of my friends are chemical engineers or software engineers. I'm a biochemist and considered biochemical engineering, but I enjoy dealing with biomolecules than I do dealing with design and fluid mechanics.

If you tried engineering and gave up, I hate to be the one to break this to you, but math and physics will be even more conceptually draining. Better that you find that out early.

Currently in High School but figuring out whether I want to be a Psychologist (research, most likely) or a Mathematician.

Whatever. These two are the only options I have - better yet, I want - and ultimately the question of feasibility will decide which path I choose.

Any jobs that don't involve dealing with customers. My current job is fine and dandy, basically a blue collar work that require us to get on site, get shit done, and make report, but the shit we get from customers on daily basis just makes it seem 10 times harder.

can I ask why did you give up then?

I'm in math but I've always thought I should've done engineering which seems like less crap and more real life.

It was a mixure of personal reasons I don't want to explain and that I didn't see me working on that in a future. I enjoyed the first year, but on the second, when the career started to be more engineer-ish, I lost interest. Things that seems attractive from an external point of view are not when you are studying it.

Although there are so many things that I can do in the science field, so I really have almost no idea what I want to do (although I do like astrology and biology is okay). On the other hand, American politics is very, er..."special"... Although I got elected Junior Class President today, so one step closer I guess? ^^" Please don't patronize me Dx

I'm going to try and be a Human Resources Manager. They get a lot of money, the benefit the company when they do their job right, I get to help people personally, and more importantly everyone hates HR departments so I don't think that I'll be very busy on a day to day basis.

I can watch anime from the head office! Fuck your 401k, I'm busy come back later!

If anyone here is in the HR department or knows about it, let me know if you've discovered something intresting about the job.

Engineering overrated my ass. Great pay, solid hours, excellent benefits package, lot of lateral movement you can do in the industry and allows for creativity in certain aspects.

Engineers build society and without them human progress would come to a stand still.

Clinical pharmacy is the route I hope to take after graduation. My current interests lie in cardiology and infectious diseases, but that might change.

People need to realize that there's much more to healthcare professions than medicine. It seems like it's the only goal for a lot of life science majors - and once they don't make it (they most likely won't), they don't realize that there are so many other options out there. I feel like there's a general lack of understanding of the value that "lesser-known" professions such as occupational therapy can provide to a recuperating from a debilitating injury or illness. Nurses also don't get as much credit as they deserve.

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly.
