Welp the courtroom case battle.
I can't take Umeyo seriously though

Reiji is more aggressive than I had expected though. Umeyo's rage is also priceless LOL. This episode almost felt like chaos was about to break loose. Ryuuichi found himself in a rather rough spot, dang..and the case is getting even more complicated now. Poor Ryuuichi got locked up D: I wasn't expecting that.

Redd White and his english though. Also, April May's boobs did not get enough focus.

They cut a lot including the moment when Redd White punched Phoenix.

While I do agree with you, I'm still satisfied with how they're doing it since the trial AND the investigation is much better in the AA anime compared to Danganronpa's, which makes me really happy since pretty much everything in the DR anime was fast forward extremely. (´_` ;)

This episode is kinda... Absurd, I think
Aww man, Itonokogiri's testimonial is totally meant for cornering Mayoi. And that second witness... She's finally snapped. I knew there's something "fishy" about her.

Yeah I also didn't like how fast it was. Loved how they stayed true to the game's sprites though. I can also see why they cut out the Bellboy's cross-examination, it would have taken too long otherwise.

The second half was better and I hope we get a nice conclusion. That spoiler in the preview though.

On how they are treated so far.

The investigation scenes are way better than the court scenes. Which is sad considering that the court scenes have the best moments in the games.

Red White of Bluecorp lol

Based Edgeworth with that glorious updated autopsy. Love me some Edgeworth.

I hope the next episode has more drama in the trial, because it will be epic for a case finisher. If I really think about it, nothing really happened in this case compared to what will come.

They're completely changing everything about the investigation segments to try and cram it all into one episode - the painting in Redd White's office, his relationship with Grossberg, the bellboy and his affidavit, DL-6 hints, even how Phoenix found out about Redd White was changed or cut.

I think it still doing fine because you do not want your viewer to spoonfeed every bit of information. That would make the show a bit like a gameplay guide.

I really hope that Mr. Edgeworth has a shred of decency in him to realize that he's clearly on the wrong side

Other than that, I really the back and forth in the first of the court trial as well as seeing Phoenix own April May.....Also Redd White is annoying as fuck (The names in this show are hilarious tho lol)

April May's VA deserves deserves cookie for that 180 performance though, that flip was fantastic and creepy as fuck lol....She's hotter than I expected her to be so her being fake still kinda turned me on xD

Overall, I enjoyed this episode a lot and I'm very curious to see how this will pan out

This is terrible. I feel offended as a fan of the game.

Pacing is atrocious. They're rushing like hell. There's zero emotional punch, the objections are completely soulless and have zero impact. There's no feeling of mystery known from the game. The characters feel extremely flat, there's no time to get to know them because 70% of the dialogue is cut out.The new soundtrack sucks and the changes in the story make it feel more simplistic than it actually is. It just feels like watching some kind of summary of the game.

Please, to anyone who hasn't played the games and watches the anime - drop it while you still can and play the game. It's just a waste to experienve such an excallent story in this non-exciting, ugly, soulless, flat, rushed and fan-insulting way.

It's actually getting kind of entertaining seeing the differences between the games and the anime now. All in all the cutting hasn't really hurt the story in any way.

For example, in the games, there are three trial phases, and during one of them the Bellboy was called in as a witness. The only thing that really came of that (aside from some tension) was him stating that Umeyo/April had checked in with someone else. So having her simply slip up and say she was ordered by someone else is an okay means to the same end.

Plus this case doesn't have a whole lot of evidence to it, so cutting stuff doesn't hurt it much.

One thing that always bugged me about this case, which applies to the games in general, is motive. We have a phone recording of these two happily conversing before the murder, and motive never gets brought up. In general it's never a factor when the defendant is being accused, but if our favorite defense attorney is accusing a witness, proving a motive is a MUST.

That English. I cracked up as soon as I heard "WHAT'S YOUR NAME?" out of the blue. Was not expecting that.

If there's one liiiiiittle gripe I have, it was how silly the updated autopsy report scene was portrayed. I dunno. Maybe I'm just used to the games, but it's usually not played for laughs when the prosecutor plays dirty.

All in all I'm actually liking this so far. Even if it's not great, at least it's not a Sailor Moon Crystal or Dragonball Super situation.

Whoa, that trial started quickly.. and it ended quickly too.

Redd looks constantly high tbh.
Edgeworth's voice is disturbingly low (Gumshoe and Edgeworth also sound really similiar) I don't know what it is, but perhaps I am far too used to hearing this as his voice.

NEVERTHELESS I enjoyed it more having Edgeworth in the episode. I think they are pacing things way too quickly for how slow the game actually goes. I know they have to cut out all of the extra presses. As this is also an adaption of Justice For All, I can't wait until they get to that other great prosecutor.

hedla12 said:

If they didn't pace so quickly, they'd be able to have the conversation Grossberg has with Phoenix about the incident.

Would not recommend reading this spoiler if you've never played the game..

My God, this is just so bad. I was trying to give it a chance after the first episode thinking they hurried to make room for more important cases, but the pace is so bad for all and there's 0 suspense *cries*

And the art/animation is so so so bad. The game itself had a thing with anatomy, but instead of things getting better here, they are actually worse. Even when zooming, some have horrible faces. Everything is so awkward about it. How much was the budget for this?!

*is sad*

And it's regressed from crap to shit.

No Bellboy testimony? No talk with May in the detention centre where we find out that she's scared of White? Phoenix didn't get punched?

I don't feel like they're putting enough emphasis on how powerful Redd White actually is because they're rushing through everything so quickly.

Court segments have been way too fast paced so far, the investigation segments have been marginally better but they still aren't exactly good.

Also Redd looks weird AF.

The police and Judiciary from this anime try (even if it's a mere coincidence) to be kafkian-ish, I think. The problem, though, of course, is that Kafka's work is much better. I mean, there is no comparison. The writing is so goofy and silly in this show. There's nothing belieavable about its "surreal" aspect, it's just plain dumb. Disappointed by this series so far and I don't see it getting better.

I still don't like the animation and the music isn't noticeable. The comedy moments are another problem because they feel so forced and take any emotional impact from this anime away. Besides from that the twist with Phoenix getting thrown into prison is interesting. He has to prove himself now.

Well, basically it's hard to understand because the anime so far left out more than half of what happened in the game or changed some parts to adapt the case in fewer episodes. In the game, they explained in great detail what he did, in the anime they left out some important parts.
Here's what Redd White (the localized name he has in the games) actually did (this was actually already mentioned in the game at this point):
"He used the company to gather scandalous information of various big-name individuals including celebrities, people in finance, and even high-ranking officials in the prosecutor's office. He then blackmailed the individuals into doing his bidding, many of whom would eventually be driven to suicide."

So far the adaption is really bad, it's so sad that they don't adapt half of what happens in the game and that they change so many things. They didn't even mention DL-6 so far :/

I can only recommend all anime only watchers to play the games instead of watching the anime. They are far better than the anime. Nearly half of what happens in the anime, is anime only so far because A-1 changed a lot of things to adapt the game in less episodes. I mean, the first trial of the second case was about 45 minutes gameplay in the game and they put it into half of an episodes and therefore skipped so many parts, same goes with the investigation afterwards.

Not only that, also quite important foreshadowing is missing. Things will come out of nowhere only because they didn't adapt it not because the game didn't provide it.

That seemed way too fast for its own good. Stuff like that confrontation between Naruhodo and president of the company could have been so thrilling had it been properly paced. I haven't played the games but I thought the court stuff went by too fast and not enough focus was given to the witness. Imean she was lying and was clearly related to the murder somehow. Some more contradictions in her testimony or something?
Naruhodo's arrest in the end was totally unexpected! But again, the pacing ruined the thrill it could have given.
All in all, it was a good episode, but the portion they covered could have been a lot better if they had spaced it out in 1.5-2 episodes. I understand the time-constraints they have due to limited episodes, but rushing stuff doesn't really help either. The thrill and shock that they wanted us to feel could have been felt to a far greater extent with better pacing.

I am very curious about this scene though. Looks like Child Mayoi, Younger Chihiro and the fat lawyer were looking at somebody in black robe(+hood) being sealed of in a room or something. Could that be the reason why Chihiro was looking into the president?

I am not from Japan, but in my country rich people can do nasty things like bribing the judge so the case works in favor of them. Usually they do this by prolonging the case, so the other party (let's say, a really poor person) will not have the money to pay their attorney and other fees. They can also pay the other party's attorney to make them lose.
