*1. 22,966 22,966 Kokoro ga Sakebitagatterunda. Limited Edition Probably my favorite thing that Okada has worked on. Sure it does have some slightly overly melodramatic moments but I found it to be an overall well written movie with a likeable cast. Mod edit: Spoilers removed. |

I'm actually surprised that despite how popular LL is(not that I like it), none of the movies these days came close to total gross sales to compete with Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi...... |

You're comparing two entirely different types of movies. One is a late-night Anime Adaptation movie, the other one is a mainstream Anime Movie. There are certain stigmas still attached with anime that may have a certain portion of the fanbase being otaku in Japan, while this stigma is not really present for mainstream anime movies, especially one from Ghibli. I am not sure if the Akihabara Massacre in 2008 contributed heavily or not to this stigma, but the perpetrator confessed to being an otaku, so naturally many Japanese have continued to hate on otaku. They would never watch any movies that may also be liked by otaku. I haven't looked around much, but it seems that junior high school girls are statistically very likely to hate otaku in Japan. |

How does one splits what is late night or not? Does the upcoming Shinkai's movie Kimi no Na wa counts as late night? While some are generically easy to classify, standalone movies like Kimi no Na wa, Kotonoha no Niwa aren't. Even if you want to bring up mainstream Anime movies, why hasn't OP, Naruto movies overtakes Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi? I mean the second highest grossing movie behind Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi is Howl no Ugoku Shiro and even then, it barely got half of what Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi earns. About if the Massacre in 2008 heavily affects, I think it's better to get a good understanding of the response before deciding but I highly doubt it heavily contributed to it. |

You should not compare late night anime movie to more general anime movie not only they targeting different audience but also todays late night anime movie are fully taking advantage of being supported by hard core repeaters such as modern late night anime movie have present goods that changing every week so that fans watch same movie several times or even tens times to collect those goods |

Because Spirited Away was a huge phenomenon and is more popular than those movies? Spirited Away is the most popular movie of Studio Ghibli, that in animated movies is the equivalent to Disney in Japan. |

Arpeggio went into its own route and basically managed to finish the series with this final movie. Considering that it is rather successful and the actual manga story line is still ongoing... there is a strong chance that a remake will come into the future. regarding other series: Konosuba again has managed to gain even more sale this week with a strong 2.5k sales...that is difficult to still have a series with a pretty high sale number after the first week..it looks like it will have a 10k average for sure :D Utawarerumono: Itsuwari no Kamen: Those sales ar actually rather good..considering this is a box set and has a way above average price range than your typical volumes....Here is to hoping the third season will come too...and maybe this time..they try to avoid the mistakes of the second and at least make it as good as the first if not better. (it was still good but it is a drop in quality compared to S1) Digimon Adventure Tri is doing very successful...compared to the last few digimon series..this one is actually good..they really took great care and to the fans considerations into doing it this time..the orignal gang was and will always be the best :D |

Hard to believe the sales for Utawarerumono: Itsuwari no Kamen. That didn't exactly turn out as well as I was hoping it would in terms of the show itself. But shows the power of fan support. Even if you throw out a poor product, people will buy it. |

It's so amazing to see Aria selling well after all this years. |
But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion. http://www.classzone.com/books/lnetwork_gr08/page_build.cfm?content=analyz_media&ch=30 It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person. If elitist don't exist, casual pleb and shit taste also don't exist. |

Amazon jp That's $258usd for 12 episodes, slightly higher price per episode compared to on sale 3episode BD LEs ($64usd vs $50 like OPM/noragami). Also mentions "original episode movies", OVA? It's a trilogy I heard, so S3 will finish the last game. Well cour 1 was mostly onsen episodes, so the BD sales makes sense... More Arpeggio anything is nice. One of the most successful CG series. Hopefully Sanzigen improves on BB s2. Charlotte is controversial. Maybe JP tastes prefer this. For PA Works, vol1 has higher sales than Nagi no Asukara. |

The BD-BOX is slightly cheaper per episode than a standard volume of a 12 episode TV Anime. What you guys are comparing to are TV Anime with cheaper volumes, but are in no way typical price. Typical price is at least > ¥7,000 for 2 episodes. Although, even if the BD-BOX is cheaper overall, it is still a higher upfront cost, because non BD-BOX TV Anime has the cost spread out across many volumes at least. Discounts are disregarded to make the comparison fair, and the 8% sales tax is included in Amazon JP prices. ¥36,720 (¥34,000 w/o 8% tax) for 12 episodes = ¥3,060/episode (¥2,833.33/episode w/o 8% tax). ¥*7,560 (¥*7,000 w/o 8% tax) for *2 episodes = ¥3,780/episode (¥3,500/episode w/o 8% tax). ● Standard TV anime examples used is Girls und Panzer and Love Live. |

Also nice that Ituwari doesn't need to worry about drop off across 6 volumes. Oh I just noticed Amazon doesn't ban reverse import... Girls und Panzer complete for 5k-7k yen. Can't understand comments, but kinda funny their all tutorials on how to disable forced subs on ps4, pc etc. |

@gophercg with a few exceptions, most anime sales occur on pre-sales and sales day, the bulk in the first week with a few more the next week. Very popular titles may sell for a few weeks and exceptions to the rule like LoveLive and GaruPan may rank for months or years. Gibli titles are probably the most similar to western releases like Disney. Both rank every year around Christmas as parents buy the classics for their kids. We see them on the rankings every December, forcing some poor selling new anime off the weekly lists, forcing us to look for them in the extended list and rankings. |

Update to my previous post (http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1498280#msg45476657) High Speed! -Free! Starting Days- has apparently grossed 680 million yen overall from 500,000 attendees: http://aniloco.info/archives/8969 , so it moves up from #18 to #11. It doesn't look as bad anymore, but still well under expectations for a late-night anime movie with 120+ screens.
