I asked this question a couple friends of mine and surprisingly most of them tend to watch the anime solely, not even considering reading the manga.

As for me, most of the time i end picking up the manga if the ending of an anime does not please me or sometimes just out of curiosity.

What about you guys?

Yes. If I really like the anime then I'll pick up the manga and go for a 2nd ride. Sometimes you have some anime that leave it all at a cliffhanger, that's when I also go to the manga so I can find out the rest.

No, if I really like the show I cross my fingers and hope for a sequel. If a confirmation never comes I have plenty of other shows to keep myself busy and I don't really enjoy manga personally.

people that do that then asking second season without even bother to try original source is one of bug me the most.

"ewww reading". i don't understand that mindset. most anime is second hand adaptation which is many used to ads original source.

It's reversed for me.

I usually just read manga that were originally manga (like Shonen Jump manga)

And if I happen to like the manga enough, I watch (part of) the anime to see how it gets adapted; its just interesting to see how it would look animated.

Conversely, I don't have much motivation to read manga of original anime.

I usually will check it out if I enjoyed the anime a lot and am left unfulfilled. However if the show does a good job telling a story that feels complete, I usually have less interest in the manga.

Yes. It's all the same to me. When i get really into the and the anime finished half way, i have to read it. I never keep track of my manga tho...i'd have to look through my shelf and PC to find where i've left off on all manga i have been reading, and then update all of 'em...to much of a hassle....

Depends if i liked the show. If i liked the show, the manga must be better. And so far i have not been wrong, examples:

NEEDLESS
Soul Eater
The peasant is bound by the king. The king is bound by the peasants and their kingdom. But the Viking is bound to nothing but themselves.

Occasionally. Only if I liked the series enough. My most recent purchase was the 16 volumes - soon 17 when the last is translated and published - of the Spice and Wolf novels.

To me that really depends on the Anime in question: if its a product placement Anime(like most LN's)then no because if the Anime was meh at best I doubt the Source Material will be that much better. I mean look at SAO The Second Half Of Season 1 - the Anime Adaption was pretty spot on with how meh the LN's were. Both were boring and lame and most of the first half was covered in a single LN Volume.

Hello, ShizukuViolet-san! ≧◡≦

In my case sometime after I finish the anime with an original anime ending or with an open ending I tend to pick up the manga… I want to see the resolution of all the teething troubles presented in the anime in the romance dept. I want to see who ends with who and if they lived happily ever after… on other occasions my curiosity got the best of me…

Examples:
Hadi Girl, Love Lab, Isshuukan Friends, Komori-san wa Kotowarenai!, Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai, Sekirei, Gokukoku no Brynhildr, Bleach, Akame ga Kill!, Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha.

It depends on how much I enjoy the series. If I enjoy it so much, I'll go for the original work, manga or novel. Of course, if I can find them and afford them.

I do the same. I read the manga if I wasn't satisfied with the ending or I want to know more about the story of the characters.

only if i like the anime, and it seems like there won't be a second, or more seasons. If there is a possiblility that the anime will be continued, i normally hold out for the rest of the anime adaption.

You are right, I'm on mobile, so I was lazy to edit the post... I wanted to say that I could not wait to know more when the story was already released and the anime did not stop with fillers.

At least justify your opinions instead of just saying "it's my opinion". It would've been more polite.

Sometimes certain ones just ends or sometimes if the ending does not exist in manga series. I go and read the manga.

I mostly don't go to manga if I am satisfied with the ending. But I would go to manga if the anime was left at cliffhanger or story isn't finished yet and to catch or if the story of manga is said to be different from the anime.

There were few cases (not because I didn't like the end of the anime. In fact. I liked them more than thee manga) and then I found myself stuck with 5 ongoing mangas.luckily. two of them did end, but there is one that it didn't (the other two I didn't start because of an anime) as I had enough with never-ending ongoing mangas... I stopped. But I cobsider reading Pandora Hearts which is already finished.

Yes and no.
Depends if the Anime doesn't have an end (Mainly cause the season ended and it never got another one.) But for this case the anime had to be good enough to pique my interest for the ending.

Once it meets this criteria, it will depend on the art. Hunter X hunter is one i don't actually want to read, mainly cause the art + Hiatus status it is in. Others will argue.

Than there are anime that I will randomly read chapters off Like Gintama, One Piece.

Always. Especially when the anime fails like Boku Dake, I read the manga and it was awesome. And in some aspects when the anime has 12 episodes and I liked it I start the manga as well. I love manga a lot.

I read manga sometimes. However I will always enjoy anime more.
If there is a good anime series, and I know it will get another season.
then I wait....

most of the manga ive read is stuff I know wont get animated...or if an anime I like doesn't get another season...then Ill finish off the series with the manga.

The only exceptions were Naruto, and One piece. I would say Bleach too but the chances of it getting another anime seams really slim.

Yeah I do if I liked the series enough. If I know the endings differ or if the anime deviates from the Manga completely I'll also try to give it a read. But I'll plan to read something and never get around to actually reading it. That's what happens more often than not.

Sometimes I read the manga. Basically If I am too curious about what happened next. For example, Aku No hana, Kimi ni todoke or Usagi drop.

other choises are I read the manga before I watch the anime. I did this with Kaichou wa maid sama! Or Just to watch if the anime was good. Or if the anime changed some things about the manga. I did this with Victorian Romance Emma. This is only if the anime adaption makes an adaption of all manga.

But 90% or more of the times, I don't read the manga. I really not interested

I'm very OCD and autistic, so I usually read the manga before I watch the anime. This can be very enjoyable, or it can be equated with torture. Or it can just be meh.

If I like the anime I read its manga. Sometimes the anime tend to cut out pieces of the manga and change the story a bit so I prefer to see the differences. So I do read them.
