That is one gorgeous key visual. Makoto Kobayashi really makes impressive designs. Here's a detail of the bow of the ship.

Trust me i can care less about western appeal or opinion.

I hope this does become a mega hit in all honesty so studios would see a trend and invest in more space operas.

Quite a few staff changes but still very excited about it. Seems like Tetsuro Amino (Shiki, Macross 7, Rainbow Days, Mobile Suit SD Gundam, Broken Blade) will be the chief director or general director and music will be done by Kousuke Yamashita (Chihayafuru, The World Is Still Beautiful). Animation production is still by Xebec.

Oh i can understand how you might feel..Space Opera based series were quite popular between the late 70's to early 90's but now they are practically extinct in Japanese entertainment these days. so yeah i hope this becomes successful so we can more stories like these again .

Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199 is a really good anime though. Unfortunately not popular.

If you are talking about audience outside Japan in general, Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199 is just one of those. But then again, novel base(not light novel) anime tend to experience this.

Not sure how well this will do in America. I don't hear anyone talking about Uchuu Senkan Yamato anymore, or 'Star Blazers' as it's pathetically called in the U.S.

Not sure why people are saying Space Battleship Yamato is not popular, well maybe not anywhere else but in actually Japan? it's quite popular...but what can you expect from MAL users.

I'm hyped for this, really liked the story in the second season of the original.

This anime gave birth to otaku movement and waifufaggotry. Tens of years later they don't spend money for nothing for the third time.

OH YES

This is good news, the reboot of S1 was one of the best anime this decade. I hope the staff changes do not have a negative impact, though: Anno's scripts were really good.

I've got those S1 ready and all but still haven't gotten to it yet. Might give it a go when this does come out.

This news totally reminded me of the new Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu adaptation we're getting next year. I'm honestly excited for that since I've been reading the new manga adaptation and the fact that it'll be handled by Production I.G gives me hope.

Having recently finished Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199 I gotta say I'm super hyped to hear this is getting a sequel. It's kinda rare to see any space opera anime nowadays so I hope this is super successful so the genre can get revived.

I was about to say "fuck yes, finally a show that won't suck for sure" but then I saw that staff changed. Why are they keep doing that? You don't mess with something that worked perfectly. I really hope it won't be another Itsuwari no Kamen. One ruined title is enough for the time being...

You will most likely enjoy it HaXX, it's quite interesting to see the crew manage Yamato since

Though I'm curious if this will be OVAs like S1 or not.

Zzzz. Battleship Yamato is like the Star wars of Japan.

http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=617107

It sold over 25k+ a volume. It was anything but crashing and burning.

Get hype! Weirdly enough, Space Battleship Yamato S2 was one of the first series I watched, and is partly responsible for me getting into anime.

Have pretty high expectations for this. I wonder which ending they'll adapt...?
