Great to see Boku no Hero on top!
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

Not really impress with this series so far. Decent sales for its debute though.

Lol, another week where I wasn't expecting to see snk vol 18 on the List. This time it made it on the list because of how low the threshold is for this week.

Are sales always this low at this time of year? I mean only the top 25 have over 20k in sales, sometimes only the bottom 5 or so have those kinds of numbers. Seems like the number of sales is REALLY low this week with regards to the threshold.

For a first volume those platinum end sales are crazy. A big name takes you pretty far.

Boku no hero is going to get a huge boost from the anime. Can't wait.

I read the first chapter and found it meh. Has it not improved since then?

I reckon it'll do 800k per volume with ease, but I doubt it'll reach Naruto's numbers as some were predicting.
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

The last volume of BnHA that had four days in its first week (vol.4) sold 163,233 copies. I'm probably one of the few people who don't see this series as the next big thing. Time will tell

After 6 weeks:
14. *47,165 2,755,816 One Piece Vol.79
13. *29,886 2,703,998 One Piece Vol.80

This year doesn't look as bright as last year for OP so far.

After 9 weeks:
39. *16,261 1,670,578 Shingeki no Kyojin Vol.15
39. *20,873 1,635,105 Shingeki no Kyojin Vol.16
46. *,*20,931 1,735,214 Shingeki no Kyojin Vol.17
43. *16,756 1,749,736 Shingeki no Kyojin Vol.18

Vol.18 is still the fastest selling volume so far.

Nice (again) to see all those Erased volumes over there.

This volume will surpass 600k by the end of this year, highest selling volume next year will be between 900k and 1.1 million, the time slot the anime will run on is no joke.

Boku no Hero first ;o it's getting really popular now... Platinum End has a nice start, but makes me wonder, is it because of the author? Most likely, because the manga is okay-ish, not that impressed so far. Magi and Fairy Tail still hanging on there, nice. Boku dake ga Inai Machi has a nice boost, happy for it.

I don't follow the tv time slot for anime, this is a bit off topic, but what tv channel/time slot snk aired on, and was it a More popular tv channels than magi, taizai and blue exorsist? Just curious.

No,but it is on obscure magazine so it is not surprising that it got huge boost.Even if it was selling as much as other popular series before anime,it had rather limited recognition because of that.
Also SnK's case it was rather hype surrounding it that boost sales than anime itself,Kingdom is the same case.

Souma is on Weekly Shounen Jump(3 million)
NNT is on Weekly Shounen Magazine(1.2 million)
Magi is on Weekly Shounen Sunday(500k)
SNK is on Betssatsu Magazine(60k)

Hmm... You said no, so I'm guessing the channel for nanatsu no taizai and magi are more popular than the one that broadcast for snk?

I don't really get the part about the hype is what gave snk the boost, not the anime itself. Hmm.... Snk would not get the boost without a anime, so technically the boost was from the anime, the anime is what created the hype.

Hinomaru-Zumou remaining consistent in sales if nothing else, still hoping it get's an anime at some point which in turn gives it a large boost, best Jump series since Shokugeki for me. Want to see Sousuke and Hinomaru animated greatness. Nice to see Hantsu x Trash up there as well, still a fab series.

Good onya Boku no Hero. Nothing else to really compete with it though. And damn Platinums Ends sales are incredibly good for a first volume.

Hinomaru Zumou needs more love just read all that's translated and it's just as good as other big shot sports mangas. It just needs an anime to boost its popularity and it will explode. Atm it's the worst selling manga in the magazine not including new series, so thank god for its good rankings or it would be stuffed. Plz IG, pick it up after your done wi Haikyuu, plz?

Hinomaru Zumou needs more love just read all that's translated and it's just as good as other big shot sports mangas. It just needs an anime to boost its popularity and it will explode. Atm it's the worst selling manga in the magazine not including new series, so thank god for its good rankings or it would be stuffed. Plz IG, pick it up after your done wi Haikyuu, plz?

I see Toei making it, they already made a sumo anime once and it would work better as a long runner.

Yea, you guys are setting yourself up for disappointment. Not saying boku no hero acadamia will not sell to your expectation. But if doesn't disappointment will be in your shadow.

Soma didn't have the help of the Nichi5 timeslot (Taizai, Magi, Haikyu S1, Blue Exorcist) that HeroAca will run on
Do you have their numbers before anime?[/quote]
Single volumes sales within a year
Haikyuu 350k to 990k
Taizai 300k to 900k
Magi 100k to 700k
Blue Exorcist 50k to 800k
We can throw Arslan in as well. 350k to 650k

The Channel was the same! While Haikyuu!!(1st season), Magi NNT aired during NichiGo(5 pm timeslot), Attack on Titan aired in the same Block of Jojo Bizarre Adventure, Kuroko no Basket and Haikyuu!!(2nd season) called Anime Shower(3 am timeslot).

Both timeslots are popular, but Nichigo is way more and given that is at 5 pm, has better TV ratings.

About boost. Attack on Titan got 2 boosts! 1 before the anime through word of mouth. Getting around 800k copies per volume. And due to the Anime, that got so much hype, even before airing, due to the previous hype.
In the end the excellent sales have to do with the quality of the manga that generated those 2 big boosts.

About My Hero Academia popularity and Shokugeki no Soma. Note that Shokugeki no Soma is a Ecchi Culinary series, a pretty exotic kind of series. My Hero Academia is a "Battle" manga, that is the most popular genre around. The current only series capable of selling 1 Million copies in a volume during a year are Battle Manga: One Piece and Attack on Titan.

Thanks that's the answer I was looking for. I think you forgot assclass and Tokyo ghoulre, both sold a little over 1 million last year with their best volume.

ah, yes. In reality I wanted to talk about the series that before leaving Oricon weekly ranking get more than 1 Million, and so in the end of the year every volume(except the ones released right before the list) gets 1 Million copies.
Still Tokyo Ghoul is also a "Battle" manga and Assassination Classroom has a good mix of it.

Oh, yea, I see what you're saying. So what's your prediction on boku no hero acadamia sales when the anime starts airing. Do you think it can be a 1 million per volume seller?

Possible, but I believe that it will not be able to do that in just 1 year. It will go for around 800k to 900k until the end of this year, and by the end of next year or the next will get there. It will be similar with Haikyuu!! and Tokyo Ghoul, but a little better. I hope.

The expectation for this series is really huge. Can't wait to see how all of this play out.

If this volume sell around 300k, then i can see 600-900k after anime, but it's still not guaranteed that it will surpass 800k.

I see Toei making it, they already made a sumo anime once and it would work better as a long runner.

Please no. This series would definitely not work as a long runner. I can't even think of how they would put fillers in it. I'd personally prefer it if something only became a long runner once it has a lot of chapters to adapt so there will be no fillers (Hunter X Hunter, Daiya no Ace). Otherwise it just becomes a mess like the recent World Trigger and Dragon Ball Super. Plus I just hate Toei haha.

Series in Jump only start after getting a lot of chapters: Around 80 to 150 chapters!
Again, HxH was a remake of a series that already had an anime series, and a long runner that started rather early. Ace of Diamond started 7 years after the manga started, do you know how many series end before the 7 years, specially in Jump? Almost all series!

I don't see your example of World Trigger and Dragon Ball Super. Dragon Ball Super is a anime original, so it makes no sense including it. World Trigger isn't a mess in any way of the word!

Slam Dunk worked as a long runner and even became the most popular sport manga because of it! If you're wondering, yep, Slam Dunk was made by Toei Animation.

About Toei Animation doing Hinomaru Zumou, it will be a surprise if they do. They stopped doing sport anime in sometime with the exception of Masutarou that was more of a comedy.
