Luciano's Reaction (or lack thereof)

Does anyone else share my feelings of disgust for Luciano given the fact that he provided absolutely NO reaction to the sudden and unexpected annihilation of the Valkyrie squad? He didn't even acknowledge it one way or the other and just kept fighting as if nothing had happened.

Luciano's cold-hearted depiction makes me utterly dislike fanart that depicts him "caring" for Marika and Liliana. I'd hate to think they are so desperate and one-dimensional that they'd willingly accept his clearly insincere affection. (Heck, even Marika showed more humanity than him by crying out her brother's name). Example fanart:
