What surprises me most about this is how impatient people are.

I mean the episode was obnoxious and frustrating, but having people say this is the worst episode ever BLARGH DDROP etc. is a little surprising.

Maybe I just didn't find it as spectacularly horrible as some people have. At worst, I thought it was a waste of 25 minutes, while some people here seem to be taking it as a personal insult or something.

Edit- the nerd rag really is hilarious though. This is the funniest mass overreaction since Coalguys troll Karaoke for ef.

It is quite horrible, since it serves pretty much no purpose at all. It introduces nothing new whatsoever, it is a giant superficial prolonging of the narrative.

It was even less well-directed than haruhi tend to be, though, of course, still very well-directed.

I did like it, but quite objectively it is not good at all.

Next ep, I really hope Kyoani starts at the phone call, thereby skipping massive repeats, and also at least providing variation in the episode.

Edit- I also agree with Kaiserpingvin that this was not a well directed episode. I though ep. 3 had great directing. This had a lot of still shots and didn't create the same mood of the previous episode.

Well of course it's a personal insult. If the episode it's not serving any "psychological" purpose(as someone said earlier) then it's like the KyoAni staff is convinced that the public is stupid and they can afford to be lazy because there are enough crazy japanese haruhists to watch the entire episode on TV.And imagine that they receive a lot of money for this.Aren't they smart? :)

I never said it was the worst episode ever. I'm just sick of watching the same shit over and over again. I've heard that the next episode is the last endless eight one, and if that's true I'll probably download it, watch the end to see what's different and move on.

I don't think they are being lazy...I think they are just really trying to get across how infinite the loop is. Even though we think they way they are doing it is overkill.

If they try to repeat this 8 times I'm going to stop watching this ><

One repeat is enough to get the point across, two is the limit. If they repeat again in episode 5 a lot of fans are going to go apeshit.

Haha. I was kind of praying Kyon ended the whole loop-thingy in this episode, too.

But...It's kind of amusing how mad everybody is, now that they've been shown the "same" episode 3 times already...xDD

KyoAni knows what the fans want and I think they deliberately mess with their minds to see how many of them can still call themselves 'fans' after it's all over. I think that, while this may be a bold move, it's freakin' brilliant and totally fits the style of this very show.

I SO agree. xD Just what I thought. And just look at how many users are threatening to drop Haruhi/go berserk/kill little kittens because of this. It provoked a reaction...

However, I'm still really curious what ep 5 is going to be like to make up for the loop³.

Why did I watch this again? Except for some changed clothes and numbers and a new mask, nothing was different. Can't they realize that little bitch wants to go UFO-hunting already? Not that I expected anything more from the likes of Haruhi, but honestly this only seems like a cheap strategy to make lots of money by reusing tons of clips.

Explain how is this helping them make tons of money seeing the majority of the fans' reaction?
The entire show itself is making money for KyoAni, this episode probably lowered the weekly success. And seeing how much of a hit K-On! was, money is undoubtedly not a problem for them, although I know they'd love to make more. The fact they already have a lot meant that they could fuck around with the fans for an extra ep.

The consequences for them are minimal, the fans will come back wether or not it ends next ep or the next week, as people will obviously say "I'm glad I continued, the series is going good again", making people want to finish it.

I wonder how it feels being toyed with so much by an anime company without even realizing it yourself, heh.

Not having read the novels, but going on what I've seen of Haruhi's personality so far from the anime, and the subtle hints, the only way out of this loop I can see is this:

Kyon asks Haruhi to help him do his summer homework on the last day of break.

Think about it, I'll even do it in point form for you:
-Haruhi says 'Summer has to be like Summer so we're doing things to make it Summer' (or something along those lines (7 times and I haven't memorised it yet? boo me)).
-The most commonly occuring thing in a highschool slice-of-life anime is that during summer break, there are those that get it done first up, and those who leave it to the last second and copy off their friends (case in point, Lucky Star, also done by the creators of Haruhi, even comments on this phenomenon (phenomenom?)(or is it another one I'm thinking of???))
-Haruhi got her homework finished in the first 3 days, Kyon hasn't touched his.
-Kyon thinks Haruhi is one to blow insignificant thiings up to a universal scale.

Therefore, my reasoning suggests that Haruhi wants to do the whole 'last day of summer homework copy fest' thing.

I know a better solution out of it:

Kill Haruhi. Really, it's only a matter of time until Kyon snaps and decides to end it all.

Can you not remember? He's already raped her over 2000 times during this loop, and over 200 times each for Asahina and Nagato... hell, he may even have done it with Koizumi to see what it was like.

I'd say he's probably already tried killing Haruhi and it didn't work.

That's exactly the point. Haruhi fags will return to this no matter how bad it becomes. But if they sell X episodes per DVD, and 2-3 episodes are almost the same (meaning lower production cost), doesn't that mean they make money much, much more easily?

And honestly, admit it or not, KyoAni is a studio that likes to milk as much money as they can out of nothing, and nothing seems to be able to stand in their way.

Well... when I saw it 1st time it was quite good - nothing special, though.
Then, when I watched third ep I was somewhat bored, but I hoped it will end in next ep. And now I'm simply upset - after I finished watching this episode I checked up if it's not third ep.. and it wasn't, it was fourth...

It's not funny anymore - it will end in next ep for sure... but as someone in this thread said - there is no chance for second season to get 10/10. After average K-ON! and fourth ep of Haruhi I can only say - KyoAni you're going wrong way.

I didn't know those episodes were official, I thought they were fan made. So I guess the Rated-R version of the novels are the real deal as well. Learned something new again...

By the way, what's the difference between Nagato Yuki and Bill Murray? Nagato has absolutely no idea how to make time-loops interesting.

No, they're not official :P

Funny if they were though. I was just using this as an example that we haven't seen over 15000 of these loops, so we have no idea what could have happened. For all we know, Kyon may already have tried the 'I Love You' thing and it didn't work.

Oh for fuck sakes, OK they’re in a time loop, we get it, but I hope they aren’t going to waste anymore episodes repeating the same shit.
I’m a Haruhi fan but right now I’m feeling like they are using this plot to fill episodes and I think it’s bullshit.

Don’t bother watching this episode. A waste of time. Only brings disappointment.

Not really, I'm having lots of fun, read what I say in the thread of the next episode to see my views after watching this ep (as this is technically the same ep) 9 FRIGGIN' TIMES!

Well, I too expected this arc to end. And I suppose I got a little disappointed in the end. But not because we'll get another Endless Eight episode, but because I had to wait yet one more week to find out what causes that time loop stuff!
I'm enjoying the arc a lot, I think the movie Groundhog Day is one of the best (3D-) movies to date, and E8 does an awesome job making pretty much the same story.. well.. awesome. I suppose it helps for the show to be episodic, instead of a movie ; )

I especially like all the small differences between the episodes, and of course the summer activity theme/setting. Some easy brain-off eye candy etc inbetween all that paying attention : p What I don't like is that I can't get rid of the feeling that they probably made it 4 episodes long because this arc seems to be very cheap to produce! Ah well.

Did you just compare gold with dirt? I'd like to point out the differences between that awesome movie and Endless Eight but I can't possibly spend the rest of my life in this thread...

So instead, I'll point out what they have in common:
-time loop

...yeah, that's about it. Everything else is as similar as Back to the Future and Natsu no Arashi.

there are atm 18 pages so tbh I cba to read them all.

Anyway - in the sub I have seen by [a.f.k.] they say that it has been repeated 15499 but Kyoun says that it makes ~594 years (he says this in every episodes that isa bout the time warp-thingy, guess the numbers is stuck in his brain by some weird reason xD).

Thou (15499*14)/356=609.51
and (15468*14)/356=608.29
and (15513*14)/356=610.06

He nice good to come that close to the real answer while calculating that in his head.
Thou it is only close and not the real answer. It bugged me so I had to get it of myc chest. xD

*Edit*
Oh btw this is like the homework I do for my school: Copy paste and rewrite some of the sentence. The episode sucked to be frank. Remake of episode 3.
