| Oh my god I'm a HUGE fan of Shikata Akiko so I pretty much flipped a shit when I opened this ep. She is god. And I can't look at that Beatrice painting. Scary as hell. Reminds me of those paintings that look at you no matter where you're standing. |

| Awesome opening. Being introduced to a lot of characters in such a short amount of time was a bit overwhelming - I won't learn all those names in a while... That Maria kid was so annoying, she totally deserved being slapped. But it was an iinteresting first episode. I liked it. |

| I suppose it was okay for the first episode. It didn't feel like with higurashi where the first episode had me totally addicted to it. I guess I was still kinda expecting that. Still a wonderful episode and hopefully this will get better. Maria was a bit irritating in the rain scene. Though it surprised me a bit to see her get hit. Still a pretty good start to the series and I shall continue following. |

| The first thing I have to say must be; Wow the OP was great! The ED was kool too, but the OP was just special. :] Very nice. They really spent no time with introductions and what not eh? Cut right to the chase o_o; Very fast indeed...but at least I wasnt bored at all, so I guess it was for the best. :D And also Maria...wow I never realized that the "uu~" was actually that annoying because I read the manga, but man I can't really blame Rosa now! o_o; Loving how this is going...hope it doesn't disappoint me, because I expect a lot since Higurashi was so awesome. :] |

| Stop complaining. Even though I read the sound novel it's impossible for me to say that this episode was THAT bad. All I see is a bunch of guys who wanted the EXACT transposition of the novel, with every single detail, every single word of dialogue, a perfect character introduction, all the bgm from the novel in the right places, et cetera: all fitting in a twenty minutes long episode. Can you realize the absurdity? The episode was fine. But tell me, is it really possible to evaluate all the anime just by watching this much? I've read posts of people already going to drop it because "it sucked" and because Deen is destroying the feeling of the novel. But still this episode was full of nice things that they could have easily avoided: the clock's sound, the broken-glass animazion during the commercial break, the camera always pointing to the clock to remember us what time is now. If this is not a sign of dedication on deen's part I don't know what else could be. The only thing is that by only watching the anime everyone will become istantly an anti-mistery. Oh well, *cackle*cackle*cackle*cackle* |

Anyway, it looked like a mature show judging from the description, so what's up with the juvenile humour? Unless episode 2 is a lot better (ie. less annoying), I'll drop it. |

| Music was good, the mood is ominous. Looks promising, even if I chime in and agree that Maria was hella annoying just like her mother was psychotic, the episode felt rushed with all the character introductions, and the adults felt like cardboard characters. Other than that, I look forward to see where it's going. I've not played the game, so other than some murder(s), I have really no idea what to expect. |

| Maria is fine first episode was fine Battler is a perv that is why there is that type of humor Rosa just got angry at a child that wouldnt listen to her and kept disobeying her. Would everyone had wanted Rosa to give the child a time out instead?? well the first slap should have been enough. |

| Not bad, not great either. Decent adaption so far, but I can't really say much since nothing has really happened yet. Of course they blew through all the character development and such, but it would take too long for an anime, so it's expected. Will take some time to get used to the character designs. I'm fine with most, but George is supposed to be chubby, not fabulous looking. Battler also looks a bit iffy. But other than that, I'm not complaining. Overall, it's nice seeing things animated. As long as they can full off the more important scenes and get some more music from the VN in there, it'll be pretty good. Hopefully they can get to episode 3 and 4 before season 1 ends, since most of the awesomeness is there. PS. Why the hell is there a review up after the first episode? |

| I didn't expect this show to be good. But I still feel somewhat disappointed. I neither read the sound novel nor manga, so I can't really complain about the rushed pacing. Besides, it was just a single episode afterall. But for the first episode it was EXTREMELY LAME!! I forced myself to watch till the end. And the only thing I remember from these 20 minutes are characters' names and Maria's uu~uu~. I understand there must be a reason to pack all of the events into a limited anime show. But seriously, I'd prefer this ep to be split into two eps. They'd better cut the totally mismatching fanservice than some extra character development. By the way, to those who felt annoyed and woud like to hit Maria themselves: PLEASE NEVER DO THIS TO YOUR CHILDREN! They cry as annoying as Maria or even worse. So better embrace them, love them, kiss them, and calm them. While it's really hard for yourselves, it's for the kids sake. There's always a reason for their crying afterall. All in all, looks like I'll keep watching the next few eps just for the sake of Kyouko-chan Marina Inoue and Taiga Kugimiya Rie. If these get killed then I'll really have no motivation left for the show. Unless it really improves in comparison to the first eppy. |

| Quite surprised by the fact Kugimiya Rie sounds pretty good as Shanon. I wonder how many "Episode" are going to be animated, VN is up to Episode 4 atm right? OP and ED song were pretty good too. |

What I got was a death note list with some boobs service. Or maybe I expected at least an opening as goog as Shimamiya Eiko's OP for Higurashi and/or Higurashi Chikai. Or perhaps I expected someting at least as fine as Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. It contained only five main charcters, and that's why its introduction looked far superior than Umineko's one - they basically had more space in a single episode to cover the characters personality properly and create/keep the light-hearted atmosphere until the very end of the eppy. That's why I wish Umineko's first episode was split into more episodes. That would definitely be for Umineko's sake. PS: please, keep the Kanon's Mikuru beams for the board administrators. All of the words above is nothing but my personal opinion afterall. Besides, neither have I tried to make anyone follow it nor had any intentions of that kind. |
| The episode was great in my opinion despite most people whining about it being too rushed. I felt that it was rushed too but I thought that that was inevitable. Higurashi only had ~ 6 major characters, whereas Umineko has like over 10, you can't easily squeeze the introduction of over 10 characters into 24 minutes AS WELL as introduce the story without rushing and losing detail. |

But her character leads to this conclusion. (Antisocial, special interesst, less emotions,less face expressions, abnormal laugther etc.) So she is not anoying on purpose. Keep that in mind every one! But don't worry about the "uuuu" when Maria get's creepy she speak normaly. (But then she has a psychotic laugther)"kihihihi" |

| You can call me crazy, I just finished watching the first episode simultaneously in two players. One was playing the CoalGuys subbed version, whereas the second was playing the one by gg. I found out that CoalGuys failed completely with translating the part where the senior family members are having their little discussion. To be honest even before the gg subs I thought that something clearly did not make sense in the CoalGuys version, but now I'm sure of it. So, for those of you for whom this is the first encounter with Umineko no Naku Koro ni I strongly advise: DO NOT WATCH THE COALGUYS SUB! |
