| Reading some of the comments here has convinced me that I should wait until I've finished watching the anime before checking out the original work or other adaptations. Some parts of the episode did irk me, but as a whole it did its job and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. While slightly overwhelming for one viewing, I'm glad that the character introductions are done and not dragged out. I obviously can't make proper comparisons as this is my first exposure to Umineko, but as anime has more length restrictions than other mediums I think that the decision to quickly move deeper into the plot was the right one. Voice acting was good, Maria's 'uuu' didn't bother me until they returned to the rose garden, but as this seemed intentional, I can't critically complain about it. I didn't really like how they ended the OP and ED musically, but the visuals were enjoyable throughout. The singing in the ED was fine until the 'Hahaha' bit, but after that I think it was slightly too edgy. With the exception of the aforementioned point, I rather liked the OP and have re-watched it a few times. Now for a week of waiting... |

| Nothing happened that I didn't already expect from reading the sound novel and knowing the particular voice actors from the anime. Maria (Yui Horie) and Rosa (Ami Koshimizu) impressed me the most. They pulled that scene off brilliantly. |

| So far I like it. it has potential, I think. That Uuu Uuu sound Maria makes is SUPER annoying. I actually half cheered when her mother slapped her but then caught myself before I actually rejoiced. Let's see where this takes us! |

| Beatrice is quite the beauty, reminds me of Gwendolyn from Odin sphere. Interesting start, I can tell this is going to be one hell of a good watch. |

Those are some screenshots from the original sound novel. Ryukishi07 isn't that good at drawing characters, but his style has certainly improved since the Higurashi game. Also, considering that this is a sound novel, the visuals should only come as an extra, so there's really no point in being picky. Personally, I think some of the game designs are better than the anime ones. *coughGeorgecough* |
| This as a great start for the first Episode. My only beef is there is to many names to remember (maybe they will kill them off later hehe). and Mariya's uuuu is really annoying after a wail. These are minor beefs tho not enough to make me not like this series so far. |

| I really can't believe there are 7 pages already. That said, for there to be so many terribly annoying and uncharismatic characters, it wasn't a bad episode. Though, I have to admit, I'm quite disappointed regarding the total presentation of the show. I felt like this was exactly what that arc of Haruhi was parodying. The introduction was lame, Maria is one of the most annoying characters in recent memory, and for this to be set in the 1986, I'm wondering why everyone is dressed like it's 1886. Then the tacky gold eagles on everyone's clothes really bugs me. I don't know, but this isn't what I expected. Only up from here? |

| They're dressed archaically since Kinzou has a rather large obsession with the West. Which is of course why they all have Western names, too. The gold eagles are proof of being trusted by Kinzou, the Ushiromiya family crest. And yes, they should totally have mentioned that, the pace isn't gentle on the pertinent information. (Haruhi knows why Juuza dresses as he does, though.) |

| I don't think any of it needed to be explained. It was quite obvious. I'm just saying that the eagles could have been implemented more orgainically and in a more tasteful way, like in Eva's dress. |
| Sooooo rushed... It took me 4 hours to get through in the sound novel what it took the anime 5 minutes to skim over. Of course I was expecting it though, being that the first game took me (guessing) three days to finish (I read it almost evry moment i was awake, yeah I'm a nerd like that) it was obvious that they would scim it if it was going to be anything like Higurashi where the first arc was done in four episodes. Though I like the games OP more, the anime's was pretty awsome, though the ending sounding like an old guy was singing just didn't work with me :-/. | Fantastic introduction as expected. The 2D and CGI are extremely well put together, unexpectedly. The script is faithful to that of the game to a certain extent and Chiaki Kon's direction is wonderful as always. I forgot: the ED is one of the moist original and best I've heard for a while (I mean, apart from HnE). Oh and Marina Inoue as Jessica is just the best that could have happened. Great first episode overall, I'm expecting something much better than Higurashi season 1 at least. |

| Non VN/Manga here It was pretty cool in my opinion, but I'm going to agree with the rest and say that the tension was too rushed. It took Higurashi 2-3 episodes before any major tension occurred, and I think Umineko would have benefitted from that. I was also surprised to see a lot of top voice talent in this too. My personal fave so far is definitely Eva, but I also love anything that Daisuke Ono and Marina Inoue do as well. Horie was annoying as Maria, but in the general scope of things, I think that's how it's a supposed to be: An annoying little kid who gets smacked down. Looking forward to lots more. |

| Nice first episode, though considering I'm new to this series I had to pause and find a family tree halfway through the introductions to keep track of who was who. The introduction looked a bit rushed but I'm looking forward for the story to keep up. Only complaint is that Maria's voice is so annoying (I was really hoping she'd get killed towards the end of the ep), and so is the voice of the singer in the ED. No big surprise since I prefer female singers, so I think I'll skip it from the next episode onwards; pity because I like the animation. |

| Actually i'm thinking about it now, this episode was VERY similar to the first episode of Higurashi. Both introduced all the characters, and started setting up seeds of doubt and suspense. Both ended on cliffhangers Most of us know how good Higurashi ended up after that. Signs are point very up for Umineko. btw, I refuse to play the games because I want to enjoy the anime, not start nitpicking. |

| Ah, I really enjoyed it! I didn't find it rushed, per se, but there were too many characters introduced at once. Still, I have high hopes! Umineko definitely looks like it's gonna be awesome~ Also, that OP is amazing. <3 |
