Best episode so far.
That said
It was still mostly boring and dragged on too long.
So it gets a 3.5/5

Athena's voice is so soothing and beautiful when she sings.

Akari was cute at the end waving to Alice and Aika on the bridge, she really treasures her time with them.

Ahh so this episode skipped a year from the last episode huh? At the beginning of the episode Akari said how this was her 2nd winter when last episode she was experiencing her first winter.

I especially love the part where Aria was so fascinated with Athena dropping liquid onto the bunched of straw wrapper...priceless.

I hope there are more episodes like this throughout the series (and sequels), the atmosphere was perfect throughout.

I believe Aria the Animation actually covers her second year on Aqua, her first year is covered in the manga Aqua and parts of that are adapted in the second season of the show, The Natural.

Excellent episode.

Very well done emotions and atmosphere, particularly in the latter half.

Such a warm flashback episode. LOL at Athena hitting her head during the practices. I find Athena's singing voice to be very soothing and beautiful.

The Akira/Alicia/Athena training scene is hilarious. And I like how Aika's "embarrassing comments are prohibited" is breaking the 4th wall.

I really don't like Athena and Alicia.

That said, this was the best episode anyway.

Best episode of the first season. ^^ Anyone knows name of the song which was played at the end of episode before ending?

Probably not relevant anymore, but it is "Symphony" by Makino Yui.

Anyway, yeah it is a good episode, Showing the resemblance between the mentors and the students. It had alll sorts of happy and slightly sad things going on, with simple yet usable philoshophy too. And that is exactly what I like about Aria the most.

I am rewatching Aria, thank you for the information about the song that you gave this other post years ago lol, I found this googling about which song was this.

I agree with several of the other posters that Episode 11 is one of the best of Season 1. The reminiscences of the Prima's taking a break from their busy schedules reminds the juniors that their time of togetherness will someday come to an end. It was nice how emotional Akari was at the end and the city in winter. It really captured the mood for me.

Athena laughing made me LMAO.

Unnecessary comments aren't allowed. xD

Guess history repeats itself, there elders were identical to them and their relationship.

Dat bridge-butt. Gondola coming through, too. Athena imitating Alicia. I can't... too hilarous.

Athena's song! I am in heaven.

Aika's scream tho xD Akari staring at her friends walking away was a really powerful scene. I kept seeing that.

God, don't give me feels. I am not good with partings to begin with. Now I am thinking about all dat unnecessary stuff even more.

Amazing top notch episode, Aria. I wish I've seen this episode earlier in my years when I needed these messages.

Also, that bridge scene was the most gut wrenching in terms of feels I've seen. That scary feeling of Akari seeing all of her friends cross the bridge away from sight and the possibility of not seeing them again in a good long while.

After her rush towards the bridge, I seriously thought that she was gonna make a grandiose speech about how they'll be friends forever or something along the lines of the themes the episode was going off for. However, that cliche was adverted to a simple "see you tomorrow!" with her silly square embarrassed face. That had to be the most funniest and appropriate reaction I've ever seen.

P.S. my other thoughts echoed from everyone elses and that insert song was amazing. I usually don't care about those insert songs because some shows shoe-horn it in nowadays but this felt so appropriate and fitting.

Edit: Thank you to the other posters for the name of the song!

Aria, where have you been in all of my life.

That moment with Akari at the end is still among my favorites in the series. I could feel tears streaming down my face at that part, this episode was complete gold. "Those were good times, as well." I like that bit that Akira, Alice, and Athena said about enjoying both the past and present. It's something that's taken me a long time to realize when I was constantly living in my "glory days."

And why did it take me a rewatch to realize how wonderful Athena's personality truly is? I feel ashamed.

Mhnn So Athena is the best at singing, Alicia has the best oar control, and Akira is the best at being a guide huh..? I wonder what one super pupil would look like..

I like how instead of doing a more corny thing like running after them and hugging them, they keep Akari in character and she does an awkward wave while yelling their names. Getting older and having less time to spend with friends really is a sad part of life. It's nice that they handled the topic well with this episode.

Ending scene with Akari awkwardly waving Aika and Alice goodbye was really well done.

Pretty sad knowing they'll eventually slowly drift apart.

Aria the Animation is often regarded as the least impressive season of the three, given its role as an introduction to the world and characters of Neo-Venezia. Despite this, episode 11 is easily my favorite episode in the entire series. The revelation regarding the water faeries' past (foreshadowing what is to inevitably come), a full display of Athena's singing, and the poignant bridge scene with a perfectly placed insert song... absolutely sublime. Time and time again this episode leaves me awestruck at its impact, even after numerous rewatches.

A nice episode, it would have been better if the anime was about Alicia, Akira and Athena.

Possibly the best episode yet. I'd guess the reason why it received almost unanimous praise in this thread is that it delivers the three Fairies' origin story and that the theme of growing apart from friends is very easy to relate to. But it was also wonderfully executed, in a cozy winter holiday setting with a new insert song to boot.

Athena finally had more lines. She seems pretty mature, the rare occasions she speaks are always for a good reason as well, and this contrasts with her clumsiness and general awkwardness quite well.
