Well, I will admit to not listening to much current music this year and this list is exclusively rock/metal. Anyway, I am curious to know what I've missed out on so please list your own favorites of any genre.

1. Redemption - The Origins of Ruin
2. Alter Bridge - Blackbird
3. Symphony X - Paradise Lost
4. Sevendust - Alpha
5. Dream Theater - Systematic Chaos

I feel like I'm forgetting something because when I first thought of this, Systematic Chaos wasn't on the list. Ah well...

1. Avantasia - Lost in Space 1&2 - (yup although there were some horrible songs, the overall result was great)
2. Symphony X - Paradise Lost (after all the stuff they created they are still cool...)
3. Powerwolf - Lupus Dei (a new and under-rated wind in power metal scene?)
4. Symphorce - Become Death (being a big fan of their stuff, i can't really forget this great new addition to their discography. And it already became quite a big addiction for me.

Radiohead - In Rainbows
Megadeth - United Abominations
Velvet Revolver - Libertad
Serj Tankian - Elect the Dead
Queens of the Stone Age - Era Vulgaris
Nine Inch Nails - Year Zero (mainly because of the awesome show they did here after it was released)

Other good hip-hop was Common - Finding Forever and Pharoahe Monch - Desire... Wu-Tang and Canibus' albums were mediocre :(.

1. Super Taranta! - Gogol Bordello

Those are the only albums from 2007 I listen to enough to make them albums of the year. They are both mind blowing.

Hmm, can't really think of any albums that were released this year... but... as mentioned earlier... Korn - Untitled (Evolution) is an awesome song...

I wanted to blow my brains out (not literally) the first time I heard that song. I was on the bus ride to school... and it was on the radio. I didn't have my Zune at the time, so I was forced to listen to it.

My last list was bullshit (hadn't heard much of anything from 2007 at the time) so I'm bumping this and making a new one.

The Angelic Process - Weighing Souls With Sand (drone)
Despair in its truest musical form. Beautiful.

Between The Buried and Me - Colors (progressive metal)
This is how progressive metal is done. Amazing album.

By the End of Tonight / Tera Melos - Complex Full of Phantoms (progressive rock)
One of the best progressive rock releases of 2007.

The Depreciation Guild - In Her Gentle Jaws (shoegaze)
Free off their site (inhergentlejaws.com) and well worth downloading. A fairly unique and all-around solid album.

The Dillinger Escape Plan - Ire Works (mathcore)
I love short and sweet songs and this album is full of them. The only way this album could possibly be any better is if Mike Patton joined them again for it, but Greg Puciato does a much better job on the vocals than most others could have.

DJ Deckstream - Soundtracks (hip-hop)
A wonderful, upbeat hip-hop album. This guy has a great style.

The Fall of Troy - Manipulator (post-hardcore / progressive /experimental)
One of my favorite albums of all-time, but of course many would not agree with me and my opinion is extremely biased since The Fall of Troy is one of my favorite bands and all. Still love it nonetheless.

God Is An Astronaut - Far From Refuge (post-rock)
One of the better post-rock releases of 2007.

Lupe Fiasco - The Cool (hip-hop)
Probably my favorite hip-hop release of 2007.

Minus the Bear - Planet of Ice (experimental rock)
Another release from one of my favorite bands. Took some getting used to, but I love it just as much as Menos El Oso now, if not more.

Monoral - Turbulence (alternative rock)
Solid all around. This band is really underrated.

Nujabes - Hydeout Productions 2nd Collection (hip-hop)
One of my favorite albums of all-time.

Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet (progressive rock)
When I first listened to it, I wasn't that into Porcupine Tree and didn't think much of it, but at some point I started really liking the band and everything they had put out. I went back to this and loved it as well. Definitely deserves all the attention it has gotten.

Radiohead - In Rainbows (alternative rock)
Took me a long time to get into this one, but once I did... awesome. Jigsaw Falling Into Place is just fucking amazing.

Streetlight Manifesto - Somewhere in the Between (ska)
Incredible ska album all-around. Nothing else to say.

Thrice - The Alchemy Index: Volume I + II - Fire & Water (experimental rock)
Admittedly, Fire didn't do much for me, but Water is just amazing. This band has changed so much over the years.

World's End Girlfriend - Hurtbreak Wonderland (post-rock)
WEG always brings something interesting to the table, and Hurtbreak Wonderland is no exception.

Still have a lot to listen to, but those are my favorites thus far.

Did you? Well, you were right.

EDIT: Oh shit, that part of my post you quoted makes me look like a dumbass. I said The Cool was my favorite hip-hop release of the year and right after mentioned Hydeout 2. Fuck that. The Cool is extremely good, but not as good as Hydeout 2.

As with most any list, these are never really set into place. Still have a lot of albums on my wishlist I need to check out.. and I'm always discovering good stuff from years past, so as of now, my faves of '07:

1. Reverend Bizarre ~ III: So Long Suckers (their swan song, and the Rev go out with a bang; essential for doom metal fans)
2. Fire on Fire ~ Fire on Fire [EP] (see also: Big Blood, which features two members)
3. Radiohead ~ In Rainbows
4. Oxbow ~ The Narcotic Story
5. The Angelic Process ~ Weighing Souls With Sand
6. Big Blood ~ everything they released last year, can't pick (seven albums, I think)
7. Acid Mothers Temple & the Melting Paraiso U.F.O. ~ Crystal Rainbow Pyramid Under the Stars
8. Kim Doo Soo ~ 10 Days Butterfly
9. Marissa Nadler ~ Songs III: Bird on the Water
10. Causa Sui ~ Free Ride

Shamefully copied from my last.fm journal.

10) Ben Weasel and His Iron String Quartet - These Ones Are Bitter

Better than Mr. Weasel’s previous release, this pop-punk gem rivals some of Screeching Weasel’s top albums.

Favourite Track:
Let Freedom Ring
-----------------------

9) EVERYBODY OUT! - Everybody Out!

Sweeny Todd from The Dead Pets is one of those frontman that will always get my attention no-matter what he does, include the founding Dropkick Murphys' guitarist Rick Barton and you’ve got an excellent chantey-sing-along-punk EP. Worth a listen if you’re a fan of DKM or Street Dogs.

Favourite track:
Home
-----------------------

8) Girls Aloud - Tangled Up (Seriously, now STFU)

The Girls and Xenomania have re-wrote the book of pop with this album, it’s pop at its best done by the best. Very danceable and fun.

Favourite track:
Girl Overboard
-----------------------

7) Streetlight Manifesto - Somewhere In The Between

I’m sure I wasn’t the only one disappointed with the re-working of Catch 22’s classic Keasbey Nights - I wanted new songs. I wanted this album. Good things come to those that wait and this album that proves that theory right. Excellent energetic ska-punk.

Favourite Track:
Down, Down, Down to Mehphisto's Cafe
-----------------------

6) The World/Inferno Friendship Society - Addicted to Bad Ideas: Peter Lorre's Twentieth Century

Red-Eyed Soul was my favourite release of 2006; therefore I had high expectations for this album. Thankfully WI/FS delivered another wine fuelled cabaret-gypsy-punk masterpiece about the legend Peter Lorrie.

Favourite Track:
Ich Erinnere Mich An Die Weimarer Republik
-----------------------

5) The JB Conspiracy - This Machine

Perhaps one of the worse band names in existence, however, all is forgiven the second the first song hits your ears. Excellent ska-punk from Surrey, UK. Although the re-workings of Duff Muffin's classic songs are not as good, their original songs are just as solid.

Favourite Track:
This Machine
-----------------------

4) Bomb the Music Industry! - Get Warmer

It took me a while to get into BtMI!, I heard ASOB before them and just thought they were a bit ‘meh’. After finally realising that were are far from meh I feel in love with them. The songs follow a more consecutive style compared to the previous releases, which is nice. Another excellent release by Jeff & co.

Favourite Track:
I Don't Love You Anymore
-----------------------

3) The Flatliners - The Great Awake

Better than their previous album? Maybe. Just as good? Fo’ sure. The Flatliners leave their aggressive skacore roots for a more ‘melodic’ approach; the end product is a fabulous album of awesomely crafted songs.

Faveourite Track:
Eulogy
-----------------------

2) L'Arc~en~Ciel - KISS

After hearing MY HEART DRAWS A DREAM for the first time this became my most accipated release of 2007. When it was finally released I was not disappointed; everything about the album is outstanding, from hyde’s vocals to tetsu’s basslines.

Favourite Track:
MY HEART DRAWS A DREAM
-----------------------

1) The Peacocks - Touch and Go

Playing live or on CD The Peacocks are a charm to listen to. Throughout their albums they shift between styles, no one album is really the same. This is also the case for Touch and Go; it has a different feel yet retains the same The Peacocks signature sound. Top notch.

Favourite Track:
Gimme more

6. Yndi Halda - Enjoy Eternal Bliss
7. Van der Graaf Generator - Real Time
8. Riverside - Rapid Eye Movement
