I present to you...

LOVE & JOY by Yuki Kimura

2007 was the year of the Hare Hare Yukai
2008 was the dance of the Lucky Star
2009 otaku dance craze of the year will be Love & Joy.

Basically its a song made way back in 2007. Sung by none other than the cute Yuki Kimura. I'm guessing due to the current dance crazes of the time, dance troupe "D-STAGE" cheerleaders of the Chunichi Dagons baseball team decided to make a dance using Love and Joy as their song. Of course, the weight of Haruhi-ism was too much and this dance soon fades away. Fast forward to Late 2008/ Early 2009 (im not entirely sure this was when it first started) a little school girl in a mask named Okamid decides to resurrect the dance with some improvisations in what appears to be in a karaoke room and a friend decides to record it... Okamaid uploaded this movie on April 30, 2008 on 'nico nico douga' site. An MMD producer called 'Wasabi P' traced the motion and made a MMD movie titled '(In that room) Tried to dance Love & Joy full version (Okame costume)', which was uploaded on December 22, 2008 on 'nico nico douga' site. This is the first MMD movie using the motion of this Love & Joy dance by Okamaid. Wasabi P said it took four months to create the movie.
Now droves of drooling otaku and anime fans alike are all tryingto copy this new fangled dance craze. It's sure to consume your local anime convention.
It's already invaded Youtube (<---Love and Joy playlist).

Open spoiler for bio vid of the new craze.

It's like the Hare Hare Yukai knocked up the Sailor Motteke! after a night of drunk karaoke and this is the bastard child born from that union.

It has the" Kue Kue" love heart shape thingy.

I'm not sure how you spell it but in maid cafes they always make that sign when stiring drinks etc. It's pretty crazy. But Akiba is funny as hell when you see clubs and find people who dance like this. I was tempted to mosh.

Lets do it together qtip :P

I can do the first three verses... its not really hard, its just when she 'improvises' most at the end and that stuff is just tough unless you can improv just as good. llots of jumping around and arm swinging at the end... ITS TOUGH :(

or maybe i jus haz no rhythm.

But I wouldn't quite consider it the "dance of the year" since people are still doing it this year (and it's super easy).

Just my opinon, doing the same two motions over and over isnt a dance... It may be when youre on Ecstasy, but not in normal standards. But i'll let wiki explain further
Wikipedia about caramelldansen said:

Popotan first appeared as a Japanese PC game on December 12, 2002. After the anime was aired from July 17, 2003 to October 2, 2003,[1] short GIF animations clips were created from the opening of the game and posted on the internet.[citation needed] It was not long before parts from the introduction of the PC game were captured too. Caramelldansen is also known as the "Uma uma dance"(ウマウマダンス) in Japan.[2]

As the meme gained popularity, artists and fans started to copy the animation and include other characters performing the dance. The first ones were based only on the GIF animation loop. After Caramelldansen was released, most of the later animations were based on it. The real boom of the meme began at the end of 2007 in Japan (formally known as the "Uma uma Boom") where an explosion of different Caramelldansen versions appeared first in Japanese video-sharing site Nico Nico Douga[3] and later reposted in YouTube by the original authors or by fans.

What about The Monkey? That's a legitimate dance and It's only swinging your arms up and down.

Also, I just realized. Hare Hare Yukai was 2006, Motteke! Serafuku was 2007, ergo 2008 would definitely have to be Caramelldansen, and this is 2009.

Whatever. They're all lame to begin with, and being called 'otaku dances' just adds to their lameness.
