I want to watch GTO in sub but I can't seem to find a good quality stream to watch. However, I am able to find an excellent quality stream that is dubbed. So should I go for the subs with a lesser quality video stream or the dubs with the better quality?

I watched some of the dub. Some characters were just terrible, but it's watchable if the visual quality is that important to you.

Just buy it and it has amazing quality and both tracks. Okay, no one is gonna pay attention but the dub is a bit bad, but it has its great points. Go for dub.

I didn't much care for the dub; Steven Blum pales next to Takagi Wataru. Nowhere near as much... energy? and definitely not the same level of goofiness.

Didn't David Lucas dub Onizuka?

Hmm, it seems they both did, according to MAL at least. Maybe there's two versions?

Edit: Seems they're the same person. Steven Blum was credited as David Lucas, according to Wiki.

Could be. I saw the Tokyopop version. There might be another.

Steve Blum IS David Lucas. That was his pseudonym for when he was working on non-union work.

Honestly, I like the dub better. But, I've got a bit of a bias here because 4 of my favorite VAs were in it, and I watched that version first. Even aside from that though, I thought that the jokes and the mannerisms were just as funny, if not funnier at some parts, in the dub.

Like all anime... it's best to watch it in the original format... So sub! xD

I'm watching the OGM's, which have both English and Japanese audio, and I prefer the subs. I feel that the dubs aren't good enough compared to other anime dubs. Plus the dubs censor alot.

I've only seen the first episode in dub, but as far as I can tell, a series which involves a large, rotating cast needs to have lots of good VA's, something that an anime would never receive back then (and maybe today) when dubbing into english. Sure they have Steve Blum, but that girl in the first episode was teeeeeeeeerible...

I like both, watched sub and dub.

Steve Blum is a good VA, I liked his voice acting. But both are good.

I am in agreement. Blum is a good VA, but Takagi did the job much better.

Definitely the sub, I don't like it when Dub version uses the same voice actors to do several characters and that's just what GTO does, also nowhere near as funny as the original.
No way to recall
What it was that you had said to me
Like I care at all
But it was so loud
And you sure could yell
You took a stand on every little thing
And it was so loud

The french dub. It was the first version I watched, and the first version I loved. I am re-watching it right now, and I can't believe I missed all the jokes underlying in the hysterical script. There are few french dubs that are good, and GTO is one of the few.

Sub (like most people have said already)...while Onizuka is voiced by Steven Blum (well known for his va role in Cowboy Bebop as Spike), I feel that Takagi does better in terms of expressing Onizuka's pervertedness and down-to-earth attitude.

Okay thing is... in most of the old anime (by that I mean anime produced roughly before 2005 or somewhere) have a tendency to have bad dubs because the quality of eng VA was that much. BUT... Steven Blum is JUST A GOD...
I will be honest. GTO dubs being one of the old anime ofc has terrible quality dubs but Stevn is literally the only saving grace. I swear I find myself switching btwn subs and dubs only to hear Steven Blum. You guys should give dubs a try just to hear him.

Apart from that yeah the rest of the cast is pretty bad if not mediocre. Aaaand subs overall isnt too bad. So it comes down to your preference. Give it a try and see if just Steven Blum can keep u hooked on the dubs or u find urself switching to subs. I having an inherent dub bias so i start with dubs and watch the pards in subs where the dubs get cringe xd.

I have no doubt if GTO were made like 10 to 15 years later its dubs would have been one of the finest. Eng VC nowadays know what they do AMD atleast gey give a fairly decent dub if not equal or better to subs
