My computer wasnt reading my external hard drive correctly, so i just went ahead and unplugged it. Apparently it was still being read. Didint figure out untill i plugged it back in and found out this:

...gotta redownload these :(
Make sure you make a backup of your backups

EDIT: after about a year of expereincing this problem, I found out that ALL my other external hard drives did the same problem. Instead of throwing these away, I actually tried to fix the problem myself. The following post is the result

Although i woudl agree with that statement, i would have liked to finish watching them :
D.Gray man wasnt horrible, and eyeshield took me almost a whole year collecting the entire series (even had to endure reading spanish subs). And To-Heart was a good series

Did you copy it on a backup disk before you did it?

That sucks if you didn't.

Ga-rei Zero is awesome. Just don't re-download aero's fail sub, get AniYoshi's DVD version.

The rest is pretty much garbage.

Good example of why not to rely on an EHDD for mass storage, unlike what was suggested to me in another thread. My own is only a way station before being burned to DVD as raw data.

Yeah fuck whatever is on that list...

im playing every folder i have in that 500Gig hard drive and it seems like i need to re download Almost every folder... it got really really fucked up :\

Both the good and bad news is that this is my most recent hard drive and more recent anime. So it shouldnt be hard to download all of them back. The pain in the ass part is re downloading them again. Fuck this pisses me off :\
Well for my first terabyte of anime, i have them all on optical and ehdd but i got lazy for my 2nd terabyte and only put them in the ehdd...

You could probably restore the data. If you can copy it to another drive, it may repair the damaged allocations (or may not copy at all and give all kinds of read errors) but you'll want to format the drive before you put anything back on it anyway, so it's worth trying to copy everything off.

Can also try various restore programs. Plenty out there.

I'd never use an External Drive as primary storage anyways.

Hopefully this doesn't happen to me... There are times where I cannot disconnect my harddisk from the com and I'll decide to just pull the cable out. What brand of external harddisk are you using?

I have all of my downloaded (complete) anime stored on externals. Though I keep backups of it all too. If you don't back up data, you obviously don't value it. HDDs are cheap enough these days to afford plenty of storage with redundancy. Buy drives in pairs.

A restorer program can't bring back the file if the file content itself is corrupted. I've got such a program myself, and even though it might list all of the files that were lost (usually about 80% of the files actually show), even those can be brought back corrupted.

And you need a different hard drive to restore the data to that's large enough to hold the data (or enough to hold to then put elsewhere, like a flash drive or DVD), else you risk loosing what you're trying to restore in the first place as the restored data overwrites the actual sectors where the lost data is residing.

Gotta agree. Change "most" to "all", though.

I use a 1TB external. Never had a problem with this one or my old tiny 70GB one.

It's my primary storage unit for stuff like roms and anime. Windows is installed in the main internal one, of course. I don't know who the hell would install an OS on an external.

Maybe you should build a raid 5 array. than you can survive a hard drive failure.

Well i know this is an old post but after realizing what the hell I needed to do maybe this might help any other lost lamb as to how to fix this big problem...

The actual problem wasn't the hard drive, it was actually the mod board that converts the SATA HDD into a USB/eSATA external. Simple yet not so obvious fix: Take the whole EHDD apart until you just have the hard drive and put it in your computer or use a hard drive toaster (like i did).
None of my data was actually destroyed but rather the board got old and actually over heated upon inspection. the connectors actually were white as opposed to silver like it should be.

So yeah if you can strip out the hard drive its recoverable, but if you are buying an external HDD be aware you might have to do this if it fails.

Corrupted files ftl

Well the loss isn't so bad. Also, you may want to invest in a new USB cable or external at the worst.
