| not sure why they didn't have the Americans speak good English really didn't make any sense to me. the sterotypes of us too was a bit irritating but they were too funny in so many other ways that it was so worth watching :) |

| This episode was almost as good as the yaoi episode, therefore really funny. It started a bit too slow and it seemed to pick up the melancholy from the last episode, but finally, the pure comedy's back! =3 Both Angela and Sue were really funny and it was enjoyable to see how the English of every character sounded. Some did very well. =3 |

| First time I've seen an Anime where in the Japanese dub the English people are dubbed with a proper English accent and not an Engrish accent... Nice episode, them 2 new chars are quite funny :p |

I'm doing Bsc Sociology at Uni myself, and I can see how from the point of view of such an extreme collectivist culture such as Japan they would perceive people from such an extreme individualistic culture such as America as being insensitive and condescending very much as we attach so many stereotypes to other religio-ethnic subgroups in the West that needs not be mentioned here. Male assertiveness, which is valued in Anglo-american society, can easily break the social consensus and be interpreted as 'aggressiveness' while contrarywise, Japanese male sensitivity and mannerisms would be interpreted as effeminate and snobbish respectively by a Western audience. As for female lasciviousness, we can't really blame them, not only we're not a collectivist culture but let's face it we're no longer a marriage society either! Again the harmony is broken, the wellbeing of the self-centric individual is given precedence over that of the collective - truly these days it is not an exaggeration to say that the line between escort-model-prostitute-mistress-girlfriend has become awfully blurry. However it has to be said, and I notice this even in Marmalade Boy, the attitude towards Westerners isn't one of negative, but one of awe and admiration - they seem to perceive Westerners as being awfully sophisticated, exotic and "advanced", despite Japan being arguably more advanced technology wise! |

Although in Marmalade Boy there was a good reason to portray the Americans in such light, first as a contrast to the two Japanese main characters, Miki and Yuu, who had a serious problem in not being forthright enough about sharing their feelings, and second because one threat to their relationship was the aggressive pursuit by Jinny and Michael. (To be fair there was an even bigger impediment to the relationship, but people will need to watch that classic series themselves to find out.) "Materialist, insensitive, licentious and condescending...," no, that couldn't possibly be a view of Americans held in other countries could it? (Irony warning light flashing brightly here.) I'm a Canadian, and though our national characteristic is that we are normally self-effacing and overly polite, in secret many of us would share that opinion of Americans even if we're too polite to say it. What rankles most is that much of the world can't tell the difference between us and our neighbours to the South. (Until we apologize...then they know we're Canadian.) |

| Glorious engrish episode :) And Sue and Angela, finally! They even did this anime-only scene with Madarame and Angela that was lately made into manga by Kio Shimoku. Taylor_Tertius said: I was slightly disappointed with Ohna's English β since she spent a lot of time in the States I thought her English would be better β well at least better than Saki's. What I found hilarious was the subbers even subbed the English parts of the episodes! Half-way through the episode, I was thinking, "Wait a tick, why are they subbing the English parts in English?" XD Yeah, Angela english was the best and Saki was good too but... Ohno's wasn't... and I was kinda glad they incuded subtitles for those parts, sometimes I understood nothing :D |

| As a non-manga viewer that came out of nowhere. Honestly though Angela ( Kaida, Yuki , the original Hunter x Hunter Kurapica) has the best Engrish I have heard. Sure the accent leaves much to be desired, but her control and pronunciation were quite strong. Saki's Engrish was standard-fare, but Ohno's was quite poor to say the least, which is a bit embarrassing since supposedly she was studying in America for a while. |

I was born in Brazil, and to the average brazilian, for instance, the steriotypical american is viewed as a little cold, but approacheable (unlike germans or japanese, for instance), stupid, but hard workers and very sensitive about their personal space. It's actually a shock for me to see americans depicted as easy going and somewhat loose and lascive persons, it's completely oposite from our perception of you. |

| Episode that continues in a more than good daily events of Genshiken, starting from the question of Sasayan and Ogi, to finish with new characters, so I could not ask for more today. Luckily Kuchi if not seen much, LOL! Drawings and good animations, narration sympathetic and serious at the right times; it is a pleasure to follow this second season. Sin is already ending, I wanted more episodes. |
