Lain sucked some serious rancid donkey arse, so I'll not get my hopes up for this, but I'll still give it a chance as I enjoyed Haibane so ABe obviously has potential.

I will definetly check this out, I really liked Lain and you can't go wrong with ABes designs so however the story may develop there will always be pretty characters to look at. Reading the summary it sounds exactly like Lain but set in the 20th century instead, I don't mind that at all though.

Complete first, bash later. I didn't find it particularly good at the beginning either but it gets better by the episode and while it becomes really weird, the strings untangle pretty nicely. I suggest you give it another shot.

No; Lain will probably remain the only series to grace my dropped list forever. As it's the only series I own that I won't complete. I bought the box set based on wide praise and recommendation and watched the first disc, maybe a bit of the second (I forget, honestly) and just couldn't handle it any more. I'm more cautious about blind buying since Lain and a few other burns (though the others I did manage to finish). So Lain will stay as a reminder.

There's nothing about the show I liked. It had no redeeming qualities that compelled me to continue with it, so I dropped it like I would any other series I deem not worth my time for uninteresting or bad elements (art, animation, music, foley, voices, story, pacing etc etc).

What's with all the Lain hate? I loved Lain :(

Regardless, ABe's stuff is amazing, I'm definitely watching this.

For people who haven't seen ABe's stuff, it tends to be confusing, abstract and slow. I STRONGLY recommend starting with Haibane Renmei, as it is by far his most accessible work. Lain and Texhnolyze are much darker and stranger.

Texhnolyze wasn't written by ABe. You should, uh, learn your material a bit.

It sounds a bit like Lain 2.0, but since I found that one amazing, and like ABe's stuff in general, I'd surely watch it.

he did not write Haibane Renmei or SEL either, d'oh. Haibane Renmei is only two chapters long so you may at least say that he came up with the idea but SEL one-shot was created post-tv series/game and is not really connected to them that much. he is mainly responsible for character designs and i would not really classify any show as 'his'.

Based on the name of the anime and the second scan, I get feeling that the story will be a depressing one. Is it a dystopian cyberpunk story?

Abe said the title is a shortened word of "Desperado".

I say that they are "works" by ABe because his works tend to share characteristics, staff, etc.

He created the series concept for the three of them (and in the case of Haibane Renmei, did more than that) but given that Lain, Texhnolyze, and now this all share the same group of staff is sufficient to classify them in a group. Since ABe is the most public figure of said group, and that the title of this thread explicitly mentions his name, to name said group after him seems logical.

Given that I never said he wrote any of those shows, you criticizing me in an obnoxious manner for a non-existant fault seems illogical at best.

Edit- I said "stuff", whatever. Obvious what I meant.
